Title: official Naruto 3 is awesome thread
Post by: S-U-P-E-R on April 08, 2005, 11:28:29 AM
You know, I gave Naruto 3 a 9 in the review, but I've only been liking it more and more since I got it. It's at least as good as Smash Bros, if not better. Actually, yeah, right now, I like it better.

It's not like you can go out and rent it or anything, but if you get half a chance, play it or buy ten copies. Have any of you other guys played it?

I really doubt I'll like it more than SSBM, but that's not stopping me from importing it as soon as classes let out...

Yes! Yes! Yes!  I picked this up pretty much as a result of your review, and I believe a bit of drunken online shopping.  Anyways I am extremely happy with it.  I love fighting games and in my opinion SSBM is not a fun fighting game.  I have never enjoyed the series.  I know plenty who do.  But Naruto on the other hand is really enjoyable.

On a side note,  I picked up Kururin at the same time since I had never imported any games before and I can't believe how m  uch fun this quirky little game is.  I'd recommend everyone pick up both of these.

Yep, Naruto owns my soul.
Naruto 3 has the same charm of SSB just because it is so easy to pick up and play, but while it is a blast to play, it doesn't have as much depth as SSB.

Never thought any fighting game would surpass Smash on the Cube but that damn Naruto3 is something special indeed!!! The first few times you play you think "well damn, this game has no depth to it whatsoever, button-masher." But just when you're getting ready to right the game off as average, you learn how to use the counter-system and "POW" thats some good fighting greatness. You can have a fight that's even better than the ones that are on the show. If you like the show just a lil'bit and you like fighting games just a lil'bit, then import this game not now but right now.  Good Good Stuff Indeed. i give it a 9.3. Best import evar!!! (Sin & Punishment I still love you)

I disagree, I've been playing Naruto 3 with some highly competitive people - once you learn how to break chains and can threaten crazy damage and the mind games that come with it, I think you'll find it just as awesome as SSB in terms of mind games.

also it's one of the few games where cold war-style deterrence comes into play

Hey, hey - I'm not saying Naruto 3 has no depth, just not as much as SSB, which isn't an insult if you've played smash bros against some competitive people.  But perhaps I don't have enough competition - once i figured out you can link a special to a combo, it hasn't been as much fun.
Naruto is my first and only import so far, and it is impressively fun.  I definitely recommend it to anyone who watches the anime or liked SSB (so everybody ).  I personally am watching Naruto's developer, Tomy, for future releases and I can't wait for the next one because I'd like to have Kimmimaro's babies.
Has anybody found a way to increase the health bar or change the round number?  I thought I found some handicap stuff in there somewhere but I don't remember anything specific to the health bar or round number.

You can change the round numbers somewhere in the options, but it's only for 1-on-1 and doesn't apply to the 4 player matches.

Unlocked Itachi yet?

You know it. I had the game reserved in like August so I've had a lot of good time with it.

Hm, I was considering this game since sometime last year... Maybe I should finally give in.

Yeah I got the game sometime last December so I've known it's awesome for a while now. My friends won't play SSBM (stuck bitching over changes from SSB) so this is our main 4 player fighter.

As a fan of the anime and manga, things are looking good for future installments of the GNT series gameplay wise.  The game keeps up to date with the anime, which right now is at a critical point in the story. Since GNT3 there's been about 5 or so new characters introduced (Orochimaru's 5 sound ninja, plus filler story characters if you wanna count them), plus a couple they left out (Kabuto, Shizune, maybe Kisame too), and a few character changes (Gaara's new sand attacks, drunken fighter Lee, Chouji's power pills, Neji's 128 point strike, Kiba's new merged dog attack, Sauske's cursed seal level 2 mode). Not a whole lot, but probably more than what was changed from GNT2 to 3.

However, the real money would be on what comes after that. At the pace the anime is going at, next year there should be plenty of (future anime/manga spoilers) 3 year time skip material to work with. A host of new characters, all new character models for existing ones, new moves, the works. I don't know how long the development cycle would be, but if they start now by creating models based off the manga and then waiting on the anime for animation and voicework, they could feasibly pull off GNT5 (or 4, should they choose to skip this year, but I doubt that will happen) as a launch title for Rev in Japan (or GC game at Rev launch time, since it is backwards compatible), with a possible US release when the anime catches up here in the states.

But back to the point: Naruto 3 is awesome.

"My friends won't play SSBM (stuck bitching over changes from SSB)"
What?  That's retarded, Melee is like a bajillion times better than the original.
Not to mention there were hardly any changes Only awesome additions and improvements.

They weren't that skilled at the game. A couple hits, then throw off. It worked on SSB because throws packed a ton of power, but not on SSBM. And so, as a group we played it maybe 3-4 times period (I've played it solo much much longer) since it came out in 2001.

Damn - I always thought that if you weren't skilled at a game you play more and get better/adjust to it, especially for an awesomely fun game.

So much for that.

Only if you're losing. Raising damage and throwing off was a winning tactic in SSB (for them at least), so why bother to learn anything else? And Luigi's headbutt was a bit more difficult to control than the super uppercut from SSB, which was another cheap tactic. Take it all away and you basically have to re-learn the entire game, which I guess they didn't want to be bothered with. A crap excuse I guess, but after 4 years of asking why that's the best I could get. You know how it is: "Why don't you play it!?" "I just don't want to." *sighs*
