Title: The Good News is...
Post by: couchmonkey on March 23, 2005, 11:51:19 AM
With the carefree days of GDC and Regginterviews over and the black clouds of PSP CERTAIN DOOM!! descending over us, I thought it would be nice to hear something positive.
Nintendo Rolls in Money - I've argued many a time that Nintendo's profitability is meaningless if its userbase keeps shrinking, but that is one heck of a profit! It warms my heart.
Edit: For the lazy, the most interesting point of the article is that although Sony earned some $45 billion dollars from videogames from 1998-2004, their profits are a meager $4.5 billion, while Nintendo's profit for the same time frame was $7 billion. EA took third place with $1.8 billion.

I don't care about sales so long as Ninty is making enough of a profit to stay in business... ^_^

Quote In terms of revenue, Sony is the clear market leader, having generated $45 billion in game related revenue from fiscal 1998 through 2004. However, Nintendo has been the most profitable company, earning about $7 billion in operating income from fiscal 1998 to fiscal 2004, compared with about $4.5 billion for Sony (from its games division) and $1.8 billion for Electronic Arts. Microsoft is clearly an up-and-coming powerhouse, although the company has reported heavy losses from its games division.
I think they are making way more than enough profit to just stay in the business Thier operating income = almost 4 times as much as gaming giant EA
edit: That 45 billion that Sony generated, isn't that from everything everyone has made for the playstation brand from '98-2004?
