Title: japanese films
Post by: harajukuchic on March 21, 2005, 03:14:49 PM
theres gotta be some fans of japanese movies here right? Has anyone seen Last Life in the Universe? My friend works at umvd and they get free movies every once in a while and so we watched that one and it was awesome...it's about these 2 people that are complete opposites and don't even speak the same language yet they are able to communicate and live together...it was very interesting....whos seen it? my friend told me that on palmpictures.com they have tons more movies just like this one so i was looking and theres one called bright future that just recently came out and i'm thinking of getting it.  has anyone seen that one? what did u think of it? lemme know!

I saw godzilla once and he did some stuff with his feet and some japanese bits, and then i thought "i wonder who would win in a fight, godzilla or paul bunyan???" but my question was never answered

I think Godzilla would win because he can breathe fire and all Paul has is an axe unless he has his bull help him out, but i still think godzilla could kick some butt.

I think you should give Bright Future a chance. It would ease you into the genre with some killer jellyfish!

I think it's safe to assume from the site that I run (http://www.tohokingdom.com), that I love Japanese cinema. Seven Samurai to Godzilla, I love just about everything, even to the obscure such as Prophecies of Nostradamus or Matango. I tend to greatly prefer the Golden Age (1950s-1960s) to the more recent stuff, though.

My favs would have to be: Godzilla vs. Biollante, Seven Samurai, and Yojimbo.

"Azumi" was proberly the best japanese movie I have seen
only 1 part in the whole movie I hated (when she threw the rock in the water)

Im a bigger fan of older chinese movies then japanese.

sorry, I have a movie called zatoichi and it has yojimbo on it, I got confused, i meant zatoichi, they remade zatoichi not yojimbo. I feel pretty bad about writing that, sorry hedorah64. I have the zatoichi link if you want it.

But when I said that Yojimbo was a wicked, awsome kick ass movie I stand by that and that Zatoichi comes next after that.

i loved battle royal and the returner. suicide club didn't make much sense, and versus was so bad it made me cry. unfortunatly, most of my asian cinima is blockbuster related... but trying to do better.

natural city (which is korea) kicked ass. definatly worth a watch.
