From Igns Mailbag... So is the online Demasked? Eitherway it should be announcec by March 1st IMO

Nintendo doesn't equal DemaSked. Yeah yeah rumors, cryptic crap, blah blah but I'm not going to believe they're official until Nintendo says so. For all we know they could just be cooking up their own online interface for any third party to use (and are being funded by some rich dude or something) and will release the technology to third parties to easily take them online. Or maybe they are developing software that just tunnels DS games in some new way or some stuff.
That just goes along with what we know all along, that Nintendo IS working on some sort of online interface, and if the rumors are true Square has something to do with the scenario too. Craig seems to know more than we do though (or he's just EXTREMELY sure of his rumor sources and is just acting like it because he knows he is right)... I wonder which game he is talking about? Hunters, Animal Crossing, or Mario Kart? I've been saying all along that Kart and Metroid will be online though, and Advance Wars as well (call it freaking DS Wars..) and maybe Pokemon Diamond and Pearl since Gamefreak was talking about them reinventing the series. Oh and you guys seen those new NFS Underground pics? Game looks great...better than asphalt and ridge racers. The turbo programming seems nifty, I'm sure they'll think of other junk too... I'm guessing it won't be online though since it comes out in like 2 months... But Craig said Nintendo will be announcing the plans "very very soon" so that means maybe around PSP launch to E3 we'll see an online game...
And someone needs to take my advice on selling blank GBA flash carts (or equivalent) as "hard drives" for the DS... Those things are pretty cheap and can hold tons of stuff, that way you can store created maps in Advance Wars and stuff like that but more importantly download DS system updates and patches and stuff like that... That way nintendo can update things like pictochat and mario 64 with patches adding online play... And it would go great with DS download play since RAM is cleared when system is shut off. That way like PC games developers can post demos on their websites and you can download them to your DS GBA cart and play them... and it gives you much more than the 4 mb of ram to work with for single cartridge multiplayer

Well, it can't be Animal Crossing, or Advance Wars, or Metroid, because they aren't "massively killer Nintendo brands that people have been wanting to play online for years". My guess is Pokemon, or it could be Mario Kart. Remember when Mario Kart was rumored to be out around now? Perhaps they delayed it so it could be the flagship title for this online thing? Of course, AC, AW and Metroid could all end up being online too, but they just aren't the game Craig was referring too, so they won't be the first.

Can you please quote the relevant parts? I don't want to read through the entire mailbag in search of... Well, I don't even know what I'm searching for.

here
Quote In the meantime, however, there's been rumblings at Nintendo that indicate that the company will finally unwrap its DS online plans very very soon. As it goes, Nintendo left the keys to the WiFi car in the hands of the third-party developers, but the third-party developers didn't want to drive it without Nintendo making the engine. So, as a result, if we've been hearing things correctly, Nintendo will finally and very, very soon, reveal its own "Xbox Live" like service for developers to adopt. And the first game out of Nintendo to use this service will be one of those massively killer Nintendo brands that people have been wanting to play online for years...

Will we have to pay for this online service? He likened it to Xbox live so I was just wondering

And could it be Smash?

You guys are thinking too narrowly. If this is the X-Box live equivalent, Nintendo isn't stupid enough to launch it with one game. My bet is that you are all right. Pokemon, Mario Kart, Smash, Metroid, FF:CC, Zelda:FS, etc. should all be announced on the same day this is announced. Again, assuming this is true.

Well of course, but they wouldn't all release on the same day.

It's most likely Pokemon, though the only games announced that I would like to play so far are Animal Crossing and Zelda DS...

They would be smart to launch it with two differing titles. One with mmo like qualities and one with match up qualities. My guesses are animal crossing and mario kart on the same day as launch which will almost definately be the same week the PSP launches. Then Pokemon will get a fall release in Japan and a christmas release here.
Also, everyone do me a favor and don't give IGN hits for starting rumors like this. We can discuss it here and I'm sure PGC will post when its official. There is no need to give IGN constant refreshes. =P

Perhaps the existing games have dormant online capabilities that only activate when the "option pak" is inserted?

LoL i dont get you guys, when the man writes these articles, you are the first to come down on him and talk about how he shouldnt even be doing the ds page. Yet he puts his "pure speculation" on what he thinks will be online, and everyone starts running around saying he must know something about it and how sure he sounded. On top of that its not even new news, these rumors have been around forever. Lets just face it, this is Nintendo, anything remotely close to them is cloudy and unsure. They like to throw stuff out at random spurts when noone sees it coming. We will just have to remain calm and wait paitently til they slip somethin out to the media, til then we wait and wait and wait <,<...........

I'm with darkheart on this one. Who cares what he said? I don't even like him. Whether he's right or not, I could care less. I'll wait and find out what's happening.
Which is what I've said about everything. E3 this year will be a godsend.

So he simply throws things to the air to see what sticks?
I think its important regardles.. and in my opinion its Demasked because Demasked was rumored to be announced in March... and that would be Real Real Soon...
It would be announced BEFORE E3... Thats why its important.
Oh my guess the game in discussion is Animal Crossing. but who knows... Either Way I want more info.. Will the Microphone work?

DeMasked being announced at or before E3 is quite unlikely. Warp Pipe's project manager Chad Paulson constantly says so on the WP forums.

Man everyone needs to forget about DemaSked and not think about it at all until it's actually announced...otherwise I foresee a 90% chance of disappointment for everyone...
Anyway IGN has known to be wrong a few times (mostly a long time ago) but usually when their editors talk about rumors they are right. IGN says Rare is being sold off soon. Everyone hates them.. and guess what. There goes Rare. Now everyone's like "we didn't want them anyway."
This isn't Craig just purely speculation, they have their sources.. and you know what, they do in fact know more than you about these things, wether you want to believe it or not. They hear all sorts of things in passing when talking about others in the industry... most of which are too trivial for them to post, or would get them into trouble. What they post on IGN is all you guys have to go on, and when they say something everyone's like "wait there's no proof at all!" well they know things you don't that aren't on the website.

It's already been confirmed Nintendo will reveal their online plans "very very soon", most likely this Thursday.
The game that's the first to be online is most likely Animal Crossing or Pokemon, but more likely Animal Crossing. Miyamoto said in an interview that Animal Crossing was going to be the first to show their online.

Personally I never had any doubt that Metroid Hunters will be online. And I'm sure there's no way NST and NOA won't push hard to have it online... Anyway, that C&VG article doesn't say anything new...

Or you could use online as a reason to make them buy one.

I think people are overreacting.. I mean did anyone actually ever doubt that DS will have online games? o_O Nintendo specifically said DS will have online gaming ever since it was unveiled at E3, and now people are like OMG OMG the DS is going online!!!!!!!!111111!jlskdf
PS - "verse" is not the verb form of "versus" o_O I heard my first grader brother saying that the other day and now one of you no wonder the average SAT score is so low... they need to have grammar classes

Well either way I think E3 was always the latest.... Since the DS really shouldn't have shipped until March or so (when the PSP will ship)... but it's good that Nintendo chose to get a head start at the cost of have a big dry spell... People are complaining now but we'll all forget about it soon. Remember PS2's crappy games from launch till around GCN/Xbox launch. When GCN/Xbox launched there were already many early adopter PS2's out and that's exactly when the big games started hitting, GTA3, MGS2, Gran Turismo 3...Same with DS, right when the PSP is starting out in the US the big games like Mario Kart and Metroid will start hitting.
