Here's the original story as it appeared in the Houston Chronicle. A friend sent me a copy of the story, and I tracked down the Ebay auction. I just found the link to the original article.
Serves the little buggers right. And good on the dad for sticking to his word, especially after his 15 year-old basically dared him to do it after he threatened to sell the DSes on Ebay.

Already up to $865.55, and it's still going! He looks to make a tidy profit off of this when all is said and done.

Nah, the top bidder has zero feedback. It's somebody just trying to spoil the auction. I guarantee that whoever that bidder is, they won't pay.

Probably the kids themselves. Or maybe he's just making stuff up to make people pay more.

"This listing (8156992690) has been removed by eBay"
Guess it doesn't matter anymore...

What the hell? Why is this news?
Are we seriously that ass-backwards of a society now that simple disciplinary tactics are seen as cruel and unusual?
How the hell are parents supposed to discipline their kids now?

It doesn't seem cruel to me. I think it's funny! Thinking of this will cheer me up whenever I'm down.

RE: the high ending price.
I heard on the evening news that the winning bidder is the same casino that bought the Virgin Mary sandwich. Wow, makes you rethink just how much people actually lose at those places.

My question is, what is the Casino's incentive to do so? Publicity? Seems pretty expensive for publicity that not very many will even hear about.

Well a casino could do it without breaking a sweat fiancially, but yes, I don't see the incentive as that would make a pretty poor side show.

that serves those kids right, and as for trying to make the parents out as cruel. well if those people want to see more kids turn out as criminals then why dont they just ban any disciplanary action agaisnt children
