Title: NOA Buys Yamauchi's Mariners Stake
Post by: TheYoungerPlumber on November 29, 2004, 10:49:07 AM
Nintendo's North American division purchases the former president's shares, amassing over fifty percent of the team.

Nintendo of America announced Friday that it now owns over half of the Seattle Mariners.

Athough NOA already owned part of the Mariners, it spent $67 million to purchase former Nintendo NCL president Hiroshi Yamauchi's stake in the baseball team, making Nintendo the majority owner of Seattle's team.

NOA president Yasuhiro Minagawa would not give any exact figures, but explained that Nintendo and Yamauchi performed the trade to ensure that a single owner will keep the team home in Washington.

SInce they seem to have a controlling stake now, how about the Seattle Goombas, the Seattle Pikmin or the Seattle Chain Chomps?

The Goombas is actually pretty cool name.  It is definately an ode to Nintendo, but not completely noticable.

However, if you were to change the name of the team too many fans would be upset.

Are they a good team? Do they have Nintendo written all over their jumpers? That's what's important.
