Title: Digital Controller Q's
Post by: raptorspike on November 21, 2004, 01:57:03 PM
Does anyone know if there will be an american-made version of the Hori Digital Controller? If no, does anyone know where I can buy one for as little as possible?

Those two links are the cheapest you'll find for an import. Probably.

Actually, I saw one of those at my local Hastings the other day. As I was walking out I was all "Holy Hell!! it's one of these things!!" The good thing was it was only 10 dollars. I should buy one.....but I'm kinda hesitating cause I don't really need it....we shall see what the future holds for me.

I think that just about everybody knows (or at least, they should know) that you can import the Hori controller.
But, as was mentioned in the other thread, Hori is supposed to be releasing the controller in America, sometime this month for $15 American. That's the one we're looking out for.
The links are good for reference though.

I have one of them and they make RE0 ~ RECVX a pleasure to play, and make GBA games on the GBPlayer feel more comfortable to control. The + Pad is big and responsive, the + pad on the GCN controller is crap compared.

Okay, but...is it out in US stores yet?

I work at a video game store and every day I go in I check to see if these controllers have come in, and everyday I go in I am dissapointed.
I Know that Hori is trying to open a US branch, (I think there first release is the Ace Combat 5 flight stick) but maybe they are having problems shipping them or allocating enough of them. They are also suposed to release the first liscensed memory card for the GCN at the same time and that as well has yet to show up.
I had seen the sale sheets for both these items (the controller and memory card) floating around the internet but I can no longer find them.
SgtShiversBen, If you saw one at a Hastings I'm going to go check the one near me, I will report back tomarrow...err...I mean today. It's always cool finding another gamer from Texas in a message board.

Hi Everyone,
Here are the answers to your questions.
1. Yes, this product will be released in the US with an official license from Nintendo of America. 2. The SRP for this product will be $14.99 3. As of now, the only major retailer that has decided to take on this product is GameCrazy/Hollywood Video (If you would like to see this product in more places, we would greatly appreciate your assistance in bugging the retailers themselves, trust me, I have been trying my butt off to get them to carry this product because I know there is a demand for it.) You also might be able to find it in other smaller stores because we have gotten some distribution support for this product. 4. The memory cards will also be released in the next couple of weeks, but as of yet, we have not gotten any retail support and the product probably only be available at smaller stores through distribution. 5. The controllers shipped out right before the Thanksgiving break, but I am not sure when they will start hitting store shelves. 6. The Game Boy Player will be the 4 th product we have released in the US. The 3 previous products are as follows - Katana: The Soul Controller http://gear.ign.com/articles/494/494328p1.html?fromint=1
- Vana'diel Forever: The Final Fantasy XI Clock http://www.gamepro.com/sony/ps2/games/news/36993.shtml
- Flight Stick 2 for Ace Combat 5 (This was a bundle done with Namco) http://gear.ign.com/articles/562/562988p1.html
Hope that answers some of your questions. If you have any more, please feel free to contact infous@hori.ne.jp or just keep continuing to post on this Bulletin Board and I will check it from time to time

Are they gonna be availible in Texas?
If not, I guess I'll special order one. Thank god for Game Crazy.
Gamer's real best friend =)
Edit, would you know what the register would call the controller?

Well, it's offical name (I believe) is the "Digital Controller"... I don't know how GameCrazy does things in their registers, but I'm guessing if they can sort by console (GameCube), Company (Hori) and/or product (Hardware or Controllers), they should be able to pull it up...

For those interested in the product, I just called GameCrazy and they told me that if the store closest to you does not have the controller, you can special order it. The official name of the product is the Game Boy Player controller or it is also just called the digital controller so you can try that out.

I actually saw one of these in Killeen the other day. GameCrazy down there had a ton of them and they gave me a special for picking up Shemue too! WOOHOO 10$ Now I have me my own special little Hori Digital Controller. Ahh, the wonderful world of the SNES is re-opened up to me for the fourth time in my life I can probably faithfull say that I'm the only one in Lubbock that has one of the bad mofos.

It seems that people are still having problems tracking down this product at GameCrazy. I apologize for that. If you are interested in the product please ask for the "Controller Game Boy Digital" at GameCrazy and they should be able to order it for you if the store you go to doesn't have it.

Ok got a list of GameCrazy stores that the controllers will be shipped to. If you want to know if there is going to be any in the GameCrazy in your neighborhood, please feel free to email me at infous@hori.ne.jp and I will try to find a store near you. They should be getting to stores early next week.
