Title: European Pricing
Post by: Captain Olimar on November 05, 2004, 10:18:41 AM
"A report this morning in a UK magazine has speculated that Nintendo plans to launch the DS handheld in late March 2005 in Europe, with a UK price point of UKP 129.99 (186 Euro), significantly higher than the equivalent US dollar pricing. If Nintendo really does opt for a UKP 129.99 price point, as MCV speculates, the console giant is likely to come under fire for overpricing in Europe - where that UK pound price point would translate as around 185 Euro, compared with the $149.99 price point in the United States."
is this true? . personally i think its offensive but could it just be bull - i hope so

It's speculation, but I don't think they'll release it with a €186 price tag in the rest of Europe. That isn't a psychological price point. That's almost two GBA:SP's sheesh, I don't think so. Everyone would import it since it's region free anyway.

185 would really hurt it. But then the UK is notorious for overpriced goods, the price will be lower in continental Europe.

I wonder when we'll get info on the PAL launch? The wait is driving me insane!

Hi guys, i've just signed up. I've been reading these forums for quite some time.
I'm from the UK and I have a DS + 3 games pre-ordered (will be dispatched from the US). Was just wondering if anyone else outside the US here is doing this?. The DS is not region locked so it wont cause a problem. If the price does turn out to be higher in Europe, then why not just import it?.
Cant wait till the 21st!!!!.

Because the US launch lacks good titles and you'd have to either import or wait for the PAL launch, anyway to get better stuff?

the cheapest import price ive seen is UKP 150 at http://special.getnintendods.co.uk/. im not sure if its a good deal tho. if its selling at $149.99 in the states, thats between 80-90 UKP (im guessing)

It's a "no money down" preorder, you're added to a list and are asked again whether you really want it once it's available, THEN you pay. they set that up for the DS and PSP long before the prices were announced.

You can get a DS from www.dvdboxoffice.com for £100. They're based in Canada but do free shipping worldwide.
Mario 64 DS is £18

I'm pretty confident Nintendo Europe will overprice the DS. Then wonder why it's not selling. They're a bunch of pricks, it's what they do.

I'm expecting the Euro price to be the same as the USD price (numerically), that's how system prices are handled.
