Title: Gamecube repair info needed
Post by: rrowl10 on November 04, 2004, 08:33:16 PM
I have a couple technical repair questions. I have read the repair guide and none of this is in there. From what I see if the repair guide doesnt work for you then it seems like either the spindle motor is shot or the laser. These seem to be the 2 most common probs with disc read errors. Now I know these parts are hard to come by unless you buy another cube and salvage parts out of it. What I was wondering is if anyone had tried to use maybe the spindle motor out of a playstation, or has someone found a suitable replacememnt part? I see the playstation ones everywhere and they're cheap $7 My next question is about the laser. When the laser goes bad, is it usually the eye itself that burns out, or is it usually something in the circuitry? Is the eye the same for most dvd/cd drives and the chip/software determines what it can and cant read? Or, is the actual eye different for all the different devices? If they're all the same, could one salvage just the eye out of another dvd/cd device and use it? Thanks!

eBay is your friend.
I don't know about you, but I know I use my friends.
I haven't checked, but I'm sure you'll find one there.
