Quote Taito will release the arcade version of 'Half-Life 2' in the summer of 2005. Play cost is still unknown. Taito will use their own 'Type-X' system, which runs on Windows XP Embedded. The game is described as 'based on Windows version, customized for the arcade'. 3 modes of play are availble - 'story mode', 'battle mode', and 'mission mode'. Internet co-op and competition is made possible by Taito's NETSYS.
The arcade machine is described as 'cockpit-style', with 5.1 ch surround and widescreen. The form of the controller is unknown.
what do you guys think of this?

It better be a crowbar...(But seriously, this seems kind of weird...How can a game like this be transferred to arcade without tearing it apart?)

There was a working arcade version of Quake 1 back in the day, too, if I remember. Not sure if it actually got released, though. A competitive DM game would be prime stuff for arcades, though, I'm sure.
I recall hearing about dual-joystick and/or foot pedal controls, though...

I thought japanese people don't like playing FPS games since they're too afraid of death to play a game where it's not their character that dies for them but they die themselves...

I hear a lot of theories about why the Japanese don't like FPS games and they all sound pretty fishy to me. I think it's just that the Japanese just don't like (most) American games.
Incidentally, though, I have a Japanese friend that craves Counter-Strike.

Well, yes, you can always find exceptions. It's like "the japanese love easy games" and throwing in pro-level gamers.

I have nothing to say, except that despite looking like a very cool game, they could have refrained from stealing H. G. Wells's ideas.

Doom's storyline: "We have invented teleporters! OH NO DEMONS ARE COMING OUT" Quake's storyline: "We have invented teleporters! OH NO DEMONS ARE COMING OUT" Half-Life's storyline: "We have invented a barrel that you'll be in today, Gordon! OH NO ALIENS ARE COMING OUT"

The japanese don't like FPS games for the same reason americans don't like sprawling japanese cute rpgs. Its just preference. To them FPSs just aren't as fun. I'm not a big fan of them, it takes something special fo me to get into one. It has little to do with not wanting to die, and even less to do with the fact that its american. Its just a preference. I know a lot of people, especially in the states, that can't imagine how people from other countries don't have the same interest. They just are. Video games are just like books, movies, televisions, and every other media. Do you think romance of the three kingoms is a best selling book in america. No way. I have it, but its not all that great to american readers. Just like the davinci code wouldn't sell worth a crap in japan. Its just different taste. There are exeptions everywhere. But on the whole different people have different opinions.

I think MaleficentOgre hits the nail on the head and I think Ty was getting at the same thing. They just have different tastes, and it's probably also a bit of a cultural thing. I find sports games pretty boring, yet being Canadian, I would consider buying a hockey game simply because the sport is so big here. It's still near the bottom of my list, but as sports games go, hockey is way ahead any other realistic sports sim.

They had an arcade version of Unreal Tournament and I have to say that its never worth it. Better to upgrade your computer than spend $5 on something you can't even keep.
