Title: Animal Crossing DS NEW PICs & Info
Post by: Truthliesn1seyes on October 29, 2004, 07:38:10 AM
I looked through the DS section and could not find an Animal Crossing DS topic so here goes. Quick side note though, I'll like to say sorry to the forum adms, I had created another PSP vs DS forum when I just noticed there were 2 previous ones already made.
Nintendojo seems to have some new scans up from the new famitsu magazine and in one picture you can see new Animal Crossing pics (well new to me lol) Here's the link http://www.dojomediaserver.com/media/misc/2004/10/10_DS_Scans_02.jpg
In the picture you can clearly see that the detail for the main character has been upgraded along with detail around the town. Some of the information given confirms now that you can visit others towns with the wireless connection. Another nice little tidbit was that 4 players can roam around town at the same time. This is depicted on the picture to the far right where you can see to human female characters in one screen. The 2 screens are now being used to show the sky in some cases as apposed to showing the menu screen. I'm sure you can toggle between the 2 displays or they occur during key moments in the game.
I don't know about you but with all this new info, its got me even more excited for the DS and Animal Crossing in general. I'll like to know if anyone else have any more links to pictures or have heard any new info on the game. Also, if anyone can blow up the pictures in the scan so we can get a better look at the items in the menu screen and what some of the icons are at the top, it'll be much appreciated.

That's awesome. Animal Crossing isn't really for me since my 9-5 schedule but that's still a very nice improvement. Let's hope this wireless connection can become an online connection though some means, perhaps unofficially.
But nevermind this, what's that Kirby game in those shots? That looks amazing!

This is the best I could do with the picture. Linky.
As far as items go, I see an ax, a shovel, what looks to be an ice pick (most likely for stabbing people who come into your virtual town uninvited), a mask, a leaf and a pickle.
EDIT: Fixed the link.

Yeah, those kirby shots look rediculous. The DS has some amazing 2d graphics and I can't wait to see what Konami and nintedo will do with 2d castlevania and metriod games. Also, this new Animal Crossing is significant in other ways. You can't help but read into all this and think about where Pokemon or Secret of Mana can be taken gameplay wise now.
EDIT: thanks for the effort but its asking me for a password to see the pic.

The thing I like best about that Kirby game and the Peach game is that the DS is a 3D system but Nintendo is making 2D games for it anyway. Sony has this attitude like they're going to stamp out 2D gaming forever which is a big slap in the face to real gamers everywhere. Yet Nintendo is keeping the art form alive. I was always worried that the only reason Nintendo still made 2D games was because they had to make the GBA 2D to keep the cost down. But now that they're making 2D games without being forced to it shows that they really do see it as still relevant.

yeah, portable gaming should forever stay 2d or psuado 3d with 2d play mechanics. Portable gaming is our only source for new old school gaming. If PSP succeeds and brings in 3d gaming as a standard to portable gaming, then they'll be nothing to differentiate portable gaming. We'll see slimmed down versions of console games being ported to the portable systems. 2d sidescrollers, puzzles, shooters, old school rpgs will all die out in a matter of yrs. That my freinds will suck BIG balls. Thats a whole nother topic there though lol.
I was reading at another forum and they are saying their are 7 or so icons at the top of the menu screen in Animal Crossing. Also, if you look at the menu screen, top right corner, under the last icon, doesnt that strange picture look like luggage or a suit case. Could that be for the wireless travels? Imagine you can fill it with items to take to another town in order not waste much menu space, that'll be crazy lol

It looks like a toolbox to me. Judging from the items in the inventory, I may be right.
If you look at the very top of the screen (btw, I got the link working) it appears there are several different tabs that could represent different sections of your inventory. The "toolbox tab" could just be one section.

thanks for the link, it does seem to be a toolbox and I wonder how many tools will be in the game now if they are in fact adding a tool box. I doubt they'll create that just for the shovel, axe, bug net and fishing pole. Also, I just noticed this. Look at the screen on the right, where the 2 girls are, you can see the sky in the back. I'm starting to think that instead of being in acres, the world will rotate much like tetris spheres did on the n64. As you walk, the world as a sphere will rotate and you'll start to see any oncoming houses or hills in the horrizon. What do you people think?

Ian, I don't know if you already saw this, but IGN DS has an article about the new Kirby game up. It really sounds like it may add some freshness the franchise.
On another note, I'm really excited about the new Animal Crossing and the few other games announced too.

Haha, that Kirby game sounds very cool. I'm in no position to buy a DS now, but I'll hopefully get one maybe later next year. Some of the games seem great, but Kirby intruiges me the most so far.

The 2d DS games have a very practical reason: The touch screen is 2d. Not the display but the input. If you want the player to manipulate the world with the stylus you need another plane to determine the depth of the action since you can't just guess.

Kirby has usually been last on my list of Ninty games to get since I can only get so much, but Magic Paintbrush looks way too good to pass up...Also, the fact that Animal Crossing will have "multiplayer" already is making me shiver in excitement...

Nintendo is the one of the only companies out there that makes games and still believes in the artform of gaming.
Nintendo strives to make each game an unique experience either by artstyle, or gameplay. They understand that a game needs to be immersive, but immersion doesn't mean betraying your artform or neglecting what you are.
This is why Nintendo keeps 2D gaming alive. They realize that 2D gaming is a medium that can successfully create fun games. Touch Kirby could not have been made in a 3D design so they make it 2D and it works wonderful.
I suspect that either Nintendo is creating a retro game with Super Princess Peach that plays off the history of Nintendo and therefore must be 2D, or they are working on gameplay features that will be more successful within a 2D enviroment.
Microsoft and Sony don't look at the art the same way. They look at sheer popularity first, and strive to pander to the market. Unfortunately, Pandering means you can make more money...and sometimes Sony and Microsoft makes more money and gains more popularity than Nintendo.

Yeah I have to imagine that much of the 3D gaming we'll be getting on the DS will be ports. I mean this is Nintendo's "doing it because we can" approach. Which is good. With the PSP soon to release we'll need all the 3D competition that the DS can give. But I'm sure we're going to see plenty of 2D inventiveness on the DS as well.
Back to AC for the DS. I absolutely cannot wait for this one. I think it could be the "perfect" handheld game for this upcoming generation. Just like I felt Wario Ware was for the current one.

When the DS was first uncovered, and I saw a brief clip of AC on the DS, I knew I would get one. The ammendments, such as a scrolling world, and real multiplayer, look to be awesome. Also, the ability to QUICKLY write letters is fantastic.
This game is #1 on my wishlist.
Only three months to go.

I hope Nintendo comes up with some more polished form of trading than in the previous Animal Crossing. Their "password" system was really cool, except for the fact you could repeatedly type the 'password' over and over and get tons of the same item, so it kind of removed the "trading" part of it. I'm not quite certain what they could do to fix the problem without having their on-line plan finished.
Maybe they'll have a "trading post" building in Animal Crossing DS that'll be "closed" in the game. When the DS is fully on-line, they'll allow you to go to www.nintendo.com to download an update to Animal Crossing that'll "open" the Trading Post. Which in turn allows a plethera of new 'round the world abillities.

Why force you to go online to open it? Why not have it open and work in the local area as well?
