Yeah, this is some kind of BS. In my opinion, games like this shouldn't be released on a digital delivery platform at all if the license can't be secured for the life of the platform.

Hey, I'm a proud member of the Wrecking Crew fan base too! I have proof!

I love Wrecking Crew and really wish they made a true sequel to it. (Project H.A.M.M.E.R. doesn't count.) There is a ton of gameplay and anyone that actually finishes all the levels definitely deserves respect.

Seriously though. 120 bucks and it won't work with the dock anymore? Yeah. non-starter. Easier to just play plugged in.

Does this charge the 3DS too? It seems like it could be a viable and awesome replacement dock. I'm sure they probably weren't that cool about it though.

Strangely, I didn't own any of these games yet... so I blew all my coins on all 4.

I figure I should spend 'em while I can spend 'em on games I don't have. :)

Spend your hard earned coins on new games starting today!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/28922

Club Nintendo's reward offerings were updated today. While the downloadable games from December are no longer available, four new games have taken their place.

Like last time, the games can be ordered in the same manner as other rewards on the Club's site. Upon ordering, you will receive a code that can then be entered into the corresponding platform's online shop. The Wii offerings are Dr. Mario Online Rx for 100 coins and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for 150 coins. For 3DS you can get Kirby's Dream Land for 100 coins and Dr. Mario Express for 150 coins.

This time the games are available until January 31, 2012. Make sure you register your games and take your surveys before then if you are interested!

Yeah, I was definitely kind of hoping we weren't going to see any of these games officially released on 3DS until the Wii U launched, and as such, would come with an announcement that the Virtual Consoles would be unified and one purchase could play on both.....

I guess maybe it could still happen. I know I've been writing that in every single Club Nintendo VC survey I've filled out.

I need one more stupid piece to finish my final puzzle then I'll be totally done with the current Mii Plaza features.

Can't wait for this update.

I've always been a koopa troopa fan since cleaning up with him in the first game...

However, in Wii, I've converted to heavy karts for the sake of using my Mii.

I don't really care about this game specifically, but this really burns me up.

I really really really want to see games stay up on services like the VC for the life of the VC, which is hopefully a really long time.

Part of me honestly wants to buy the game so I have it. But then a bigger part of me says screw it, the last thing I want these guys to get is a bump in sales for this... whoever "these guys" are in this case.

I like the idea if it makes it all more comfortable to hold. Leave it home for playing games there, take it off so the system is still nice and portable when I go out.

That said, I worry that the buttons are hard to reach now. Any thoughts on that?

It isn't hard to discover things by chance, it just takes the hunting mentality. Burning and bombing everything. It may not be for everyone.

But, like I said, I think part of the brilliant (and probably on accident) design is that it works best when you have someone to share findings with.

Speaking about how context plays such an important role in the enjoyment of games, Zelda 1 is still one of my favorite games.

Yes it is a scavenger hunt of grand proportions, but there are hints throughout the game. Because of the effort put forth, I still remember where basically everything is (in the first quest at least). I played the game in grade school and had several friends playing it simultaneously. It was the regular lunch-time conversation for quite some time. We would share what we had found, be it locations of dungeons themselves, or just random special things. We coined our own terms for things. In a way, it was my first truly social gaming experience (outside of playing co-op games with my sisters).

As such, I thoroughly enjoyed playing Zelda 1. It's probably one of my most replayed game. I've finished the first quest countless times.

LttP is still my favorite game of all time though.

Funny story. Just had Super Mario Bros. totally lock up.

Because of the save state system... it would stay locked up even if I closed and reopened from the home menu. Thankfully, the VC menu still operated so I could pick "reset system" there.

I know this is a silly problem to complain about, but I hate having to decide what platform I want to replay these classic games on.

I have them all on Wii, but I haven't played through many again, like Zelda 2 and Metroid.

Wrecking Crew is a great add for this list though. An outstanding puzzle game that not enough people play.

I was personally hoping for a little third party love like Castlevania or Mega Man, but as we all expected, these games are gonna be first party only.

I'm very excited to see that this is happening.

I'm also super excited that I will get to play it in HD. I'll definitely be getting PS3 or 360 if the alternative is Wii.

What I really hope is that they move the dev to Wii 2 immediately.

The GBA limitations are seriously irritating though. What the heck are they doing that the much touted home feature doesn't work for them? It's obvious that the system is just going in DS/GBA mode for them, and as such, they are probably just unmodified versions of the exact data from the carts.

In other words, this is very similar to what Sony is probably going to pull with the PS3... remove the backwards compatibility with the hardware even though it could be in there easily, and then just resell the games.

I have all 5 of those NES games on Wii VC and all 5 of those GBA games on cart.

Could I have been more unlucky? All I want is Zero Mission.

The more I hear about this whole Operation Rainfall fiasco, the more and more negative my theories get.

We've all made the points that the games are already getting translated for Europe. This means the cost of releasing here is intensely low. Everyone boils this down to meaning that NoA just doesn't think that the games will sell the piddly amount needed to account for their printing/shipping/marketing costs. I don't buy that and I don't think other people do either.

This leads me to believe that its possible that NoA is actually worried that the games will hurt their brand. It doesn't make any sense to me, but if we follow this train of thought, what is the only possible reason for it? That they are TOO hardcore. I'm honestly starting to worry that Reggie (et. al.) is giving a directive that the Wii will not be lumped in with the riff raff. As if to say that Reggie himself doesn't actually believe that video games are good.

I've run into this mentality a lot in my professional career. The world is full of people that think they can make money off video games while, at the same time, thinking video games are ruining the world.

On one hand I see this as being a completely ridiculous thing to project on Reggie. We all know what he's done over the last few years. But when I can think of so few possible reasons for the recent silliness, I can't help but consider it.

This collection is cool. I just wish Nintendo had some sort of service that allowed them to release their old games in a way that let them get digitally downloaded to my Wii.

Re: RE

I honestly think its a pretty stupid move to try and combat used games sales if only because few people will know about it ahead of time.

This isn't going to stop people from buying the game used. It's just going to annoy people who bought the game used.  Maybe that is what they are going for with this, but I don't see how that could be a successful tactic. It's going to do more to deter people from playing the next Resident Evil game than it will deter them from buying games used.

A used market is the product of selling physical media. Honestly, developers really can't complain. It's a fact that they aren't selling consumers the game, they are selling them the license to play their piece of intellectual property. Physical media just happens to facilitate a very concrete way of transferring that license in a legal and non-copyright-infringing way.

The problem with the used game market isn't the concept of buying and selling used games. It's the fact that big national chains have the ability to manipulate the market on a massive scale, facilitating sufficient supply of used titles in all locations. Their supply essentially squashes competition and allows them to inflate prices.

To make matters worse for publishers, they are so dependent on these stores that they won't/can't punish them in any way. Surely it would only take pulling a few huge console launches and they would start to get the message. In so doing, they would also lose a bunch of sales from people that only buy their games from these stores.

The only solution to this is to embrace digital delivery as much as possible. That is why sufficient storage in a system is critical, something I hope Nintendo is starting to get right, given the 3DS.

I know, this has all been said before. Just felt like typing today I guess. :)

It boggles my mind that this doesn't use street pass.

It would be awesome if every time you walked by another player, you got one of their Pokemon that you don't have. In fact, I think it'd be cool if that were the only way to get new Pokemon (other than getting the starting set).

It is a direct association. Resistive touch screens have to have the soft film on it or they don't work. You can't put a nice thick sheet of glass on top.
