Nintendo Gaming / Re: Disaster: Day of Crisis

I was really psyched for Disaster for about a year, and then I read form all the reviewers that it's about an 8-8.5. That's not a terrible score, but I really wanted it to be a blockbuster...
Well, that's what they get for making the shooting parts on-rail!
I'm still getting it (as soon as they get a freaking NA release date) the second it comes out, though.

Many popular games score between an 8 and 8.9 - it's definitely not the end of the world. Advertising (and Nintendo's usual lack-of) will make or break the game.

On the VC we have Super dodge ball on the Nes costing 500 points.

I was boycotting the Wii Shop until they released Super Dodgeball. I hope Nintendo missed my $20+/month spending habit. I'm back, baby. LOL

Isn't MOH EA? They've got the power to get exceptions to any rules system manufacturers set.

EA's work around was to have you create an account with their "EA Nation" on-line service. This not only bypassed Nintendo's awful friend code system, but also allowed you create a unique user name. Too bad there aren't any EA games that I'm interested in owning for the Wii.

The official press release doesn't reveal much about the gameplay, but it does shed a little bit light on the story...

They said that it was the same type of open world, free roaming experience as the the recent console GTA games and it takes place in a "modern" Liberty City (I assume that means GTA 4's Liberty City). Sounds 3D/3rd person to me.

Loved it on the 360 and hope to love it again on the Wii. Great news.

I'm not downloading anything until either Super Dodgeball for the NES or Eternity's Child for WiiWare become available.

Rhoq:  Perhaps something is wrong...because I have saved from the Wii to SD card and on my N64 games It has taken over 4 minutes.  And to copy it back it was about the same.

I wonder if there are major differences in transfer speeds, would explain why it's never bothered me and some people think it is outrageous.

I wonder if the SD card reader in the Wii may be built by different manufacturers, resulting in varying read speeds? Maybe, it's the card itself?

I have a launch Wii - Spak-Spank, if you bought your after launch, it could be that the card reader in newer consoles is slower, or it could be the SD card itself. I am using a 2GB SanDisk, not sure if that makes a difference, though.

You know I have stored almost every game on my SD card...I took the time.  I am not complaining...but I know it takes awhile to save on the SD card and such.

True but even my largest VC game (Sin & Punishment) and channel (Internet Channel) took no more than a minute each to copy. It just feels like it takes longer because copying a file shouldn't take any longer than a a second or two considering the fact that these relatively small files in terms of MBs.

It'll take me a month to move 63 VC games and 6 Wii Wares to an SD card. A continuous month, not just over the course of the month.

Nah - It took me about 45 minutes to copy 40 VC games, 3 WiiWare games and crap like the EveryBody Votes Channel and the Check Mii Out Channel (and purged that garbage from my Wii) - also backed-up the Internet Channel.

The Wii Shop is stupid. I was trying to download a game, Gradius, which I had (barely) enough blocks to fit on my Wii and then it tells me it requires 92 blocks, more than 4 times what it actually needs, and because I don't have that much space I can't download it. This resulted in about 45 minutes of deleting and redownloadinng VC games in order to make everything fit, made increasingly longer by my unknowingly deleting games (such as Ice Hockey, Super Mario Bros., A Link to the Past, and Sonic 2) that also require significantly more blocks to download than they actually take up on the Wii.

It's much easier to copy every downloaded game channel over to an SD card. This way if you have to delete one from your Wii, you can easily restore it without having to fumble through the Wii Shop Channel and finding the game(s) to re-download later.

An extra dollar to import it over the internet?

I believe the rationalization for the higher price tag is to cover any localization costs that might have been needed to make that title available outside of Japan.

They charge 600 for Ninja Gaiden here because it uses the US name instead of the PAL name... That would be like charging 600 for Contra because it's not called Probotector.

I have Dig Dug on the C64 so yeah, no buy for me.

I would gladly pay 600 points for Contra.

Damn guys, thought it was released stateside on the NES. Still feels like we're getting boned on this one. I've always "dug" Dig Dug, however it's just not worth the 100 point "import" premium. It's barely worth 500 points considering you can play it on the Wii already, via numerous incarnations of "Namco Museum".

I wouldn't download Dig Dug even if it were 500 points because I already have it for the XBox Live Arcade and it's available on numerous "Namco Museum" compilation game discs.

But...600 points is an outrageous price for this game and, yes, it was released in the US. Definitely not an "import" title.

The game is alot of fun and I wouldn't let the reviews dissuade you if you can handle the pretty basic graphical style.

Really? So how does it compare to the NES title? That's really all I care about. The GBA one was fun for awhile, but didn't capture the magic of the early entires for me. I was hoping this would step up to the plate and achieve that.

I wish I could help you out but I ::hides:: haven't played the NES game. I've only played the GBA one which I loved.

The GBA game played just like the original.

I have a feeling that the poor reviews are based on the "primitive" look of the game. It's pretty hard to mess up the core gameplay of Super Dodgeball. Especially since it had been in development for so long.

I'll be picking it up this weekend and can't wait for the original to hit the Wii Virtual Console.  ;D

Well guys, I think with today's revelation that Guitar Hero: World Tour (GH4) for the Wii will include DLC this time around, I have a feeling that Neversoft is privy to an a yet-to-be announced expanded storage device. Official announcement at E3?

When the Wii first came out, 2GB Kingston SD cards were $20, at Newegg.

Yep, and I paid $19.99 for a 2GB SanDisk SD card at Best Buy in November 2006, solely for use in my Wii.

And I bet that SanDisk card wasn't in the same Best Buy section as the "other" Wii-endorsed SD cards =]

You are correct. It was with the digital cameras. No way in hell I'd pay $50 for a "Wii White" SD card. LOL
