General Chat / Re: Special Announcement From Ceric
« on: March 18, 2008, 03:38:46 PM »
Congrats, God bless, and best wishes to you, your wife, and the new little guy.

Let us all know how it goes!  Have you guys settled on a name?

You probably already have people telling you this...  That first week at home can certainly be hard, but it's more than worth it.   Just be as much of an encouragement to your wife as you can through the delivery and first few days home.  No matter what happens, the changes will be hardest on her.  Also, don't be afraid to tell your respective families to beat it for a while if she needs space.  A friend gave me that advice, and I wish, wish, wish I had listened.

Anyway, when you see your kid changing and notice his/her personality being to emerge.  The stuff like the first smile, the first laugh, the big and little accomplishments have been more fun and rewarding than I ever thought possible.   It's always fun coming home because my 5 month old son's face lights up whenever he sees me.

Plus, you get to dress up your kid in stuff like this:

Man, when I heard that Starcraft 2 was actually announced last year, it made me dig up a copy of the original to make a new playthrough.  I still need to play through Brood War again.  After all these years, it's still just as much fun as the day I bought it.  I can't wait for the new release, though I suspect it won't be released until 3rd quarter 2009 or something like that.  Hopefully, I'm wrong.

Anyway...I noticed in the trailer video that bosshogx posted, there was a Protoss at the end of the trailer.  I first I assumed that it might be Raszagal, whose mind had been taken by Kerrigan in Brood War, but then I remembered that she was killed in the end by Zeratul.  I wonder if this is just a sort of flashback or the introduction of a new character.

Just to show how nerdy I am, I've actually watched some of the professional Starcraft matches on youtube, at least the ones narrated by KlazartSC.  It's amazing how seriously some people are about this game.  I was, at best, always just an average player.

By the way, Terran, Protoss or Zerg?  I've always preferred the Protoss.

Wow.  I never thought I see a DoReMi game being an import.  I've watched some of the show...
Still think that Super Smash Bros was a missed oppurtunity.

Agreed, but I think it would have been better to release late last year, or when the delay was announced.  The latter might have generated too much cynicism, though.

I'm still waiting for the release of Super Mario RPG, which was annouced ages ago.  I'm also disappointed (but not surprised) to see that Earthbound wasn't on the Masterpieces selection in the release of SSBB.

Getting a chunk of your money taken from the taxman is just part of living in any sort of civilization.  The problem is when said taxman wastes your money and then decides he's going to take MORE from you as a result and you're powerless to stop him.  And the sad thing is that happens to everyone.

Voltaire put it this way: "In general the art of government consists in taking as much money as possible from one party of citizens to give to the other."

I live in Alabama, and I've had to pay taxes on VC purchases since day 1.

New listener here.  I listened to the Brawl birthday special and decided to download some of the other episodes, partly due to the prompting during the RFN podcast.  Anyway, I"ve been listening to it at work whenever I have to go to the lab and pound out some code.   I've really enjoyed what I've heard so far, and I plan to download more of the episodes.

BTW, hearing the music from Perfect Dark brought a smile to my face.   I may be one of the few people who genuinely loved that game, even though it frequently made my piece-of-garbage generic N64 memory expansion pack lock up.

I'm sad now because I want to play that game, and I can't.  When my wife and I got married, we had too much junk after she moved her stuff in.   I short-sightedly sold off all my old video game systems/games prior to the last generation thinking that I'd never want to play them again.  I really regret that decision now.

The soundtrack is incredible, and it brings back so many happy memories!  I'm listening to it at lunch.

Even though I would have preferred that one or two more characters would make an appearance, I'm not really disappointed with the roster or the games features at all.  In fact, I'm even more excited about this game than when it was announced.  Given that we do have such a great selection of characters, music, stages, and on-line play, I think this game is well worth the price of admission.

Fox was revealed before Krystal.

Krystal is in the game?  Did I miss something?

On the topic of third-party characters, does anyone else have any frontrunners?  I was originally hoping for maybe Mega Man, Simon Belmont, or Crono, but I agree that things could get crowded very quickly.

It still seems that there are several franchises mentioned on the composers list on the website that still haven't been revealed.  We still haven't heard anything from Square or Capcom, at the very least.

think Sakurai worded the Ness comment as an indication that he existed in the other franchises and not that he was out completely of Brawl. I think you can read that sentence two different ways. And having Ness unlockable brings back the feeling of unlocking him in the first Smash Bros.

That's how I interpreted Sakurai's comment as well, but I could see how this could be interpreted differently.  I would be more worried about Ness' fate if Sakurai had not chosen to drop his name in Lucas' update.

Since Lucas' move set has significant differences, I would be very surprised if Ness isn't at least an unlockable character.  After all, the developers are going so above and beyond in trying to include everything in this addition of Smash Brothers.

Oh, and count me in as one of those hoping that Mega Man will be included as another third party character.
