Staff Sez #3: Nintendo's Financials
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:04:14 PM »

Oh no! Nintendo is losing money! What do our intrepid staff members have to say about it?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/28314

Hey there, folks, and welcome to yet another edition of Staff Sez! If this is your first time reading, I present our ever-so-talented staff with the start of a sentence pertaining to a topic, and they have to complete said sentence in under ten words. Easy, right?

This time, I thought it'd be interesting to take a look at Nintendo's earnings troubles. So here it is…

If I could give Nintendo financial advice it'd be…

Neal "TPS Reports" Ronaghan sez:
"…to actually release worthwhile Wii games before November.

Jonathan "Nahgonnaworkhereanymore" Metts sez:
…PLASTICS!

Nate "The Mondays" Andrews sez:
…to start selling me on Wii U now.

James "Swingline" Dawson sez:
…to force Capcom to localize Monster Hunter TriG.

Josh "Bob" Max sez:
…release more worthwhile games during a time other than Christmas.

J.P. "Take a Penny" Corbran sez:
…be prepared for a total third party abandonment next time.

Zach "Bad Person" Miller sez:
…don't release **** until it's done.

Pedro "Just Pass" Hernandez sez:
…to not be so damn over-confident about everything!

Carmine "Deeper and Deeper" Red sez:
…find more blue ocean, this one's turning red.

Mike "Bolton" Sklens sez:
…to un-clutter the DS offerings and only sell the 3DS.

Nicholas "Pieces of Flair" Bray sea:
…time to bring back that third pillar.

Jared "Other Bob" Rosenberg sez:
…release another Wii Sports game for Wii yesterday.

Andrew "O-Face" Brown sez:
…awesome merchandising like those Japanese Club Nintendo prizes.

Daan "Jump to Conclusions" Koopman sez:
…giving Europe its own Nintendo World Store.

James "What's Happening?" Charlton sez:
…be humble, learn from past mistakes, copying others is OK.

Minoru "Two Chicks" Yamaizumi sez:
…to take over Valve and/or Naughty Dog.

…and that's that, folks! What about you? How would you finish that sentence? Let us know in the comments, and be sure to come back next week for another Staff Sez!

I'm not worried at all, this holiday season, 3DS is going to sell like hotcakes and with the amazing games coming out for it in 2012, they'll be fine.

Just a few legit ideas I have, that are easy and would make nintendo money easy
  • break up and sell your old mario ds minigames on e-shop                        http://youtu.be/7g_pkE9nK6M
  • combine all the e-reader mario 3 levels and make Mario Lost levels 2 and sell that exclusive e-shop   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRzAAwSHeJk
  • lower your prices on e-shop/dsiware
  • redo firmware for dsiware so you can use sdcard so you can't cap how many games you have at one time on your system memory
  • allow people to transfer wii virtual console games to 3ds by $10 exchange fee
  • get the rom's for fanmade nintendo games and sell them on e-shop ( mario frustration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in6RZzdGki8 , metroid sr388 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz-Sfw91A6A
  • re--release DS full games on e-shop to download, with updated features( mario 64ds with circle pad controls, yoshi touch and go with online leader boards with 3ds friends, etc)

Make sure the Wii U appeals to the entirety of the Wii audience, not just a subset.

...to make sure the Wii U is priced sensibly and not high above its actual and perceived value.

. . .just make sure the Wii U is ready before you launch it. Rushing another major release just so you can get a large cash inflow before your fiscal year is up is bad for the company. Stop trying to meet analyst expectations and stop trying to please stock holders. They almost never know what they're talking about.

...don't spend a year not supporting your current hardware just so you can rush new hardware out the door before it's ready and without giving your customers a reason to buy it.

And sadly, I have the feeling I'm going to be saying the same thing next year as well.

...stop making such a big damn deal about 3D without glasses, and make a bigger deal about how it can do more and better stuff than previous DS systems.  Let people know that even without stereoscopic 3D, it's worth having one.
