So I want to kick both Harbaughs in the groin. Ask me anything.

OK, I understand you have the 1-in-a-buttload chance of giving up a TD and field goal on consecutive kickoff returns, but if you get that you deserve to lose.

This "spread" thing is the worst idea ever!

The whole point of having a spread is to make it harder to predict. If done properly, there's a 50-50 chance of getting it right.

I understand that.

And after last night's game, this "spread" thing is the worst idea ever!

I think the actual point of a spread is to bring in as much money as possible. It's not about 50/50 betting, it's about getting as many people to bet on it as they can. So the packers give 5.5 to the Rams because a lot of people are going to look at that and think "No way the packers don't cream the rams so I gotta bet on this. It's easy money." The house believes there's a strong chance the rams cover that number, and help themselves by making the odds low so someone has to put a good bit of money to make any money on that cover. If the line is 7 then a lot more people just don't bet at all. They know GB is going to win this game, but they're not sure if they're going to win by 7.
It's actually pretty genius.
Also, picking winners is boring. I mean. Not many people think the Jets have any chance at winning, but a few more people think the Jets have a chance to stay with 11 points of New England. And that's just a bit more fun to figure out. All that said, I think I've spent about seventeen seconds total figuring my picks out each week and it totally shows.

It's to even the odds, to prevent the house from taking too many losses. If there's no spread in the Patriots-Jets game then everyone bets on the Pats to win because they're much more likely to, most likely causing those taking the bets to lose money.

Glad to say yesterday's results were largely predictable. Normally that'd be boring, but considering how many sub-.500 (non-spread) weeks I've had this year, it's a refreshing change of pace. And boost to the ego!

Kinda stings to have a 11-1 week straight up only get you 7-5, but... yeah, after last week I'll take it.

Tim for Shaymin to figure out the spread.

Anyone else think that the Bucs would score like the did yesterday?

Only those of us that remember that the Bucs are under-performing and the Vikings overrated.

It seems lots of folks are getting pretty high on the Saints. While I agree that the Falcons haven't had many serious tests yet, I'm surprised to see how narrow their projected win is.

Well, it's a division rivalry, and those can almost always go either way no matter which team is hot.

Got to see the tie this weekend. Pretttttty awesome. By which I mean I'm glad neither team won, because neither team deserved to sniff victory.

And this spread thing is the worst idea ever.

I've got two friends, brothers, and one of them is a Rams fan and the other a Niners fan. Haven't talked to them since Sunday, should be interesting to hear their response.

My guess is the Rams fan will be a lot happier than the Niners fan. It was basically a win for them, as bad as they've been for years now, and it hurts their division rival in terms of playoff seeding.

Sure, but to get that far, and then repeatedly fail due to your own boneheaded mistakes, is like having that hot girl at the party flirt with you just to knee you in the crotch.

I know as a Browns fan, if they played the Steelers in a game like that I'd be upset about the mistakes but still pretty happy that it hurt them a lot more than it hurt us.

That was a terrible decision. Those players were trying to take out (and injure) other players for money, and they deserve to be punished. The original punishments were justified, but the players union always supports the players no matter what (you could have a player brutally attack an innocent fan and the players union would still appeal a suspension or fine).
