TalkBack / ATI and Nintendo Further Their Partnership
« on: March 04, 2003, 03:31:27 AM »
While it may be easy to assume that this announcement begins and ends as news concerning Nintendo's next major console who is to say they couldn't be working together on GBA's successor? Hopefully we can get more specific information soon.

The only other odd comment on this is that in the PC market you have ATI vs. nVidia which maps to Nintendo's partner vs. Microsoft's partner. Not to say Sony won't be a great success moving forward but with ATI and nVidia so rabidly competing with each other you'd think Sony could miss out without backing from another company who has interests beyond just an impressive console showing.

Though possibly not the best place to talk tech for Rick, if you did want to build in such a feature you could put a cap on the records returned. Thing is, it would still be a somewhat unnecessary strain since this board at least will point you to content that has been updated, just at a high level and it makes you drill down. It's one of those things though... if you check in often enough the number of new threads to check is manageable, if you leave for too long you may as well assume just about everything is new anyway...

Ahh, the OpN2000 days of the intelligencia. Though in retrospect it was too closed a community for its own good (leads to intellectual in-breeding when you can't bring in new blood often enough), the concept of it being a place where people HAD to step up to the plate to even register as a blip on the radar is somewhat missed. Memories...

And then people wonder why we set up strict rules and don't seem so interested in appeasing those members out for icons, colors, custom everything? I'm glad to see that we've managed to maintain the trend begun LONG ago in the day... and scary thing is we're looser now than we were then. If you make it about the content of what people have to say you hope the people with nothing worth saying will get bored and move back to their antics on someone else's board. My quote is for THOSE people.

Why not let your individuality be shown through the content of what you have to say? If you contribute meaningful commentary to the forum you'll get recognized much more than if you get to put in some tiny graphic. Why worry about something so ultimately meaningless?

Nintendo Gaming / GameCube's Appeal to the Teen Audience
« on: February 02, 2003, 09:18:12 AM »
One of the most entertaining aspects of people complaining about the lack of a DVD player in the GameCube is the fact that if you took the difference in price between the GameCube and another system, once you add the stuff you'd need to be able to play DVDs, you're pretty much at the price of a low-end stand-alone player. How about another pet peeve... people making so much of a lack of progressive scan support in some games. Don't people who mention that realize the incredibly limited portion of the market that cares about such things. Yeah, I have an HDTV and the goods but the vast majority of folks can't use it, so why make it a big deal?

TalkBack / Want a Freebie NES Classic for Animal Crossing?
« on: October 02, 2002, 09:49:13 AM »
Want another classic NES game for your collection in Animal Crossing? Find out how to do it!

Cursing that you just can't seem to acquire enough classic NES games in Animal Crossing without trading your life away or getting disgustingly lucky? Here's a way to get a classic NES title (though not a great one by any means... we won't ruin by telling which game) for yourself and all you need to do is carefully follow some instructions.

First you'll want to go to the Animal Crossing website and hit the news page. Once there you'll notice an ad in the upper-right corner of the page with the text "Dear Pecan," in it. Repeatedly click on that ad and you'll eventually get the opportunity to enter some information about yourself (though the code isn't emailed to you, so you don't necessarily have to give any real information should you choose not to).

Once you've gotten past that step you'll be prompted to enter in your character name and town name in a Flash version of the AC keyboard interface we've all learned to love to hate. Carefully enter everything properly so you aren't wasting your time and BOOM! You'll have a code to give to your boy Tom Nook so you can get a new NES classic for little more than a few minutes of your time.
