... exactly HOW easy is it to develop for the Wii?

I don't care how easy it is to develop for the Wii. It was easy to develop for the GameCube, but time was still needed to polish the titles and make the quality as high as possible. I want games that achieve their potential in terms of controls and everything else. And please don't bring up the whole Rogue Squadron / 9 months thing; that game is conducive to a short development cycle. Just look at other games like Resident Evil 4 or Zelda:TP to see how they needed more time in order to be fully finished, even with huge development teams. Ubisoft is being very ambitious with wanting these for launch, but I'd rather them be late and more polished than early and unfinished.

Well... since you brought it up...

Blazing Angels (which I'm eyeing for possible purchase) is a game in the vein of, yes, Rogue Squadron, and may or not be a port of its XBox version.

Actually, a lot of these may be simple ports or "enhanced ports." Still the thought is nice, and while I already plan on buying Rayman and Red Steel, I may just pick up a third Ubisoft title...

I just don't want them to support the Wii like this but not give their best to make them A+ games. If they are present at launch but leave a lot to be desired, they probably won't sell very well. Ubisoft might take this as a sign that even though they backed the Wii strongly, their games didn't sell. This is, of course, a false assumption, since the games wouldn't be altogether too good, but it may happen. And if it does, then other 3rd parties would take notice, and neither they nor Ubisoft would support the Wii as strongly. Many of them are still taking a wait-and-see approach, and they will be inspecting the Wii launch to see if their games would be viable on the console in terms of sales. I salute Ubisoft for all the support, but now I want them to do the right thing and polish these games before they are released.

I know this is the worst case scenario, but it really could happen, and I don't want it to.

Shouldn't the headline to this article read "Launch Window" instead of "Launch Day"? or did I miss something here?

I think IGN says something to the affect that it is for sure launch day and you aren't misreading it. So sounds like these games are coming out for launch day! I wonder how long they have been in development?
Actually I'm the one who originally quoted IGN this morning >HERE< and they said Launch window, not launch day.

It has another five - yes, five games planned for Wii, and they'll all arrive in time for the platform's launch window.

It would be retarded for Ubisoft to release all those games on the launch day and have their own games competeing against each other for the same gaming dollars. It would be much more beneficial to spread out the titles over the first few months b4 Christmas and maximize the potential sales of each title by not making the go up against each other.

I guess the english PR does say available at launch, but that could still mean "launch window" and not "launch day". It just wouldn't make sense to release all of those games on Day 1.

Yeah, you gotta love how publishers never seems to factor in that a game just wasn't very GOOD or wasn't marketed well.  Instead they just act like Nintendo fans have some personal grudge against them and will never buy their products (which is only true for EA). ;-)

Wow, this is very good news Most of the games on the list do not interest me, but these are the type of games that will turn some non N-fan's heads. The way things are going, it seems pretty much impossible for the Wii to come in 3rd this gen.

this actually kind of seems like a bad thing for ubisoft to do. it isnt that i dont like to see the support for wii, but 7 launch day games? you're pushing 7 games on a limited user base and competing against some of nintendos own launch titles(and red steel, a ubisoft game game that has recieved quite a bit of hype), and other third party offerings. how many copies of each game do they expect to sell? maybe ubisoft knows something we dont, and nintendo is shipping out 3 million systems at launch or something. i know that the wii is cheap to develop for, but it just seems strange.

I take IceCold and Cap's stance: this is exciting news, but I'm afraid it will backfire.  Mediocre game quality for us, poor sales for Ubisoft due to spreading out sales.  What I do like is that this lineup it covers more genre bases.  Blazing Angels may get sales purely because it's the only dog fight game on the system.

Even so, I'm at least one person who probably won't buy any of these.  Maybe if they get glowing reviews, but right now I've already got Zelda, Metroid, WarioWare, Red Steel, Rayman, Excite Truck, Sonic, and Super Monkey Ball on my tentative "must buy" list.  Suddenly I've gone from my E3 "must have EVERY GAME!" mentality to, "There's just too many, I have to narrow it down".
That's my opinion, not yours.
Now Playing: The Adventures of Link, Super Street Fighter 4, Dragon Quest IX

I think Ubisoft is going a little more longterm with this.  This is a great way to get our support early.  Plus knowing that in the third party arena at least they have little competition and the lack of even real hints that these games where coming out I doubt they send something unpolished.  Personally they'll probably keep these on the shelf for a while.

The GT Pro exclusive racing game could be a big deal if it's any good.  Blazing Angels also sounds like a perfect fit on Wii.

Conspiracy theory time!  Maybe Ubisoft really is thinking long term.  They see an opportunity in the Wii if it becomes a big hit, and they're willing to make some sacrifices to make that happen -- sacrifices like letting their own games cannibalize each other's sales in order to give the Wii launch an unprecedented variety of games, and therefore phenomenal hardware sales.  What's in it for them?  Ultimately, higher future profits due to lower development costs on a system with a gigantic install base, but also a hefty image boost.  They may want to be as strongly associated with games on Wii as Capcom and Konami were with games on the NES and SNES.  They can establish their franchises as the premiere games of the system, so in the future when EA releases a game in the same genre as Ubisoft, the legions of Wii fans will have a preference for the Ubisoft game.

That's almost certainly giving them too much credit.

It is long term. They saw what Sega did with the GC and wanted in on that. Sega were there at launch and shortly after with Sonic Adv 2 which was a pretty big deal. After that they could release almost anything on GC and it'd sell half a million.

Really all this "support" will fall to pieces once we find out the world-famous Ubi-Shanghai is behind all this ports and "optimizations".

Doubtful, Pro. Ubi Shang is too busy screwing up Splinter Cell: Double Agent to worry about screwing up Wii launch titles.

Very true, like the DoA series on Xbox.

Sega more or less made Sonic a Nintendo character at first. Shame they didn't stick with that plan...

That's what I mean, but then Sonic went all console and has since started to suck in terms of game quality.

What's even more of a shame is the fact that games like Toejam and Earl 3 went to the Xbox to die while they would have definitely survived on the GC.

Ah ok, I forgot all about toejam and earl for Xbox! I'll have to pick that up sometime, I also believe Panzer Dragoon Orta sold like crap as well. YOu would have thought that Sega would have gotten the message that "Hey GC is a good place to put our games, not Xbox", no wonder their consoles failed after Genesis with stupid descisions like that.
