Soren mentioned he just won for the first time ever in Discord despite having played it lots on other systems. So, it looks like the Switch version is a winner!

Switch is good for scrubs like me because there are even bigger scrubs who haven't really played the game. Anyway here are some tips:

- Voice chat is coming on the 14th. You don't need the stupid phone app. As long as you can plug it in the headphone jack it should work
- You get a random character every time unless you buy a specific skin.
- Most people are choosing to populate their Epic friends list with people from their Switch list. But I think it doesn't happen until the other person chooses the same option.
- Learn to build. Go to the options and choose the "Builder Pro" setup and practice with it. The only way you can consistently get good finishes is by learning to build fast. Don't be afraid to go to highly populated areas (Tilted Towers, Dusty Divot, Pleasant Park, Retail Row) because that's the best way to practice shooting and building. You'll die but you'll get better at the game.
- Shields! Drink the mini potions first and then the big one. Mini potions only refill the first 50 HP of your shields.
- Shotguns got nerfed but I still think the tactical shotgun is very good for close combat. I love assault riffles for medium-long range combat. I've never gotten used to the way sniper rifles work in the game so I never use them.
- If you don't want to build you need to be very stealthy. Avoid building/drawing attention to yourself and pray that the circle guides you to areas with lots of cover. That's how I got my first solo win and it can be a good tactic early on when so many people are still learning the game.

brandogg360 add me, where we droppin' boys? Also, by default you only play with Switch against Switch, so it's probably mostly noobs.

I prefer pubg generally, maybe partially because I'm not great at the building stuff, although I only played a match or two using keyboard+mouse and found it hard to find the building controls in the midst of a fight.

I'm gonna give it a shot on Switch though, hope to see some of y'all out there.

  • I played a game. I got 9th place and killed one person. It involved a lot wandering around alone.
  • I can't figure out how to change my character. Do I have to buy that?
  • I got a friend request and couldn't figure out how to do that. Turns out it is in the upper right corner
  • The graphics looked decent
How is it going for you guys?

So I'm a little confused. Am I on a team? There are a few people that show up with names from a distance and three other people show their health on my HUD. I assume they are teammates? So I target some other people but I cannot damage them. Is this lag? Are they immune? They do not show damage when I shoot at them.

Also, I've supposedly come in 1 of 97 in two matches, though I dies super early and didn't kill anyone. I suppose I should read more before jumping into the game, but something doesn't add up.

You can choose your mode before the match starts. I think there are 4 types of matches.

Side note: this game supports voice chat, and every game can support it now.

I'll pay more attention to what I am selecting next time I jump in. I assumed the default mode was a complete FFA style match.

I wonder if Epic was part of the reason Nintendo opened up the voice chat tools. They made it a condition for the game to come and they were wise enough to know how big of a deal this game was.

REALLY hoping it gets added to Monster Hunter Double Cross and Splatoon.

If you play any mode that is not solo you also have the option to fill a squad or not. If you do you'll be placed in a team with 3 other randoms. If not you'll play the mode by yourself.

No one told me it was FREE to join this party though!!!!

I just might check it out, I see enough about it everywhere.

Just realized there was other free games on the eshop as well.
I've been missing out.

You might see me online playing this. Chances are that it's not me, but my daughter.
I didn't want to make her a Nintendo account where she can get online, so she is ruining my account status on Fortnite by being terrible at this game. LOL

I don't care though.

p.s. How do you get away from the storm?
Do you need to confront someone to keep the storm away?

edit: Nevermind, we watched someone else play and saw that the storm closes the map in so that people are forced to confront each other to finish the map.

Season 5 is here.

- Brand new icon on the home screen
- Gyro/Motion Controls
- Moisty Mire was removed from the map, replaced with a new desert biome and area (Paradise Palms)
- Anarchy Acres is gone, replaced with Lazy Links, a golf resort.
- If you have the battle pass and reach level 27 you can actually use the golf emote to practice your putting on the course.
- Points of interest have been scattered across the map. I spotted a Moai head near Dusty,
- Rifts are scattered across the map. Entering one puts you back in the sky which allows you to outrun the storm and/or any interesting tricks.
- Golf carts have now been added so Fortnite now has vehicles.

PS: You can do Mario Kart mini turbo boosts with the golf kart.

how are the motion controls?

My aim has gotten much better with motion controls, but still need to find the sweet spot. Doesn't feel as smooth as say Splatoon does, but it's still a BIG improvement for someone like me who doesn't play twin stick shooters much.

Also, add me yo:

I think the game itself is boring, but it's one of those cases where "all my friends are playing it" so I pop in when no one wants to do anything else.

Also, it seems the latest update has killed gyro controls. Whoopsie!

I think Fortnite is incredibly fun, especially on the Switch. It's like a whole new challenge instead of playing it on PC/Console
