Recent History of Kirby: Kirby's Epic Yarn

This retrospective feels like pants (or trousers, depending on your region).

We're now in March 2018, so that means Kirby Star Allies is now due out later this month. In advance, we're going to look back at the Kirby series, specifically the last 10 years of games.

This time, we take a look back at Kirby's Epic Yarn - that charming Wii I personally gave a 10/10 back in 2010 (I regret nothing!). Come for the fond memories of a neat game; stay for the asinine "2010 Neal" voice.

By far my favorite Kirby game.  The style suits the characters perfectly, the music is a stand-out highlight with how beautifully composed it is and how it sets tone for each level.  The snow levels specifically really benefit from this.

As someone whose wife is a casual game player at best, the no death/losing gems penalty was a great point-of-entry for her with little punishment, and as she got better, we were able to start focus on 100% the levels.

Best Kirby game.  Fite me.

I never played Epic Yarn. I didnt really get interested in Kirby until Robobot. If I see Epic Yarn at one of my regular retro game shops, I will buy it.

No need to fite, that's one of the things I love about the Kirby franchise.  I tend to prefer the traditional ones, though Canvas Curse and Mass Attack are my favorites, but it's nice there is a franchise constantly mixing it up.  Like the weather if you don't like the most recent Kirby game just wait 5 minutes.

Epic Yarn is a delightful game that shouldn't have starred Kirby but whatever. As stated previously, the aesthetics are so on-point it overwhelms at times. Such a beautiful freaking game.

I have some hot opinions on the Kirby games but I will say this- its a series that is so inoffensive that I have never been disappointed by a single release. Star Allies may change that with its broken ally AI though.
