Xenoblade Voting Results
« on: March 02, 2018, 12:54:37 AM »

The votes have been cast and the people have spoken.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/46579/xenoblade-voting-results

After a week of celebrating Xenoblade and debating our favorite version, the final results have been calculated and a winner has been decided. Initially, I had assumed the winner was going to be Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but what I didn’t expect was just how close the results would be.

  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2: 42.4%
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X: 29.6%
  • Xenoblade Chronicles: 28.0%

According to NWR readers, the consensus winner is Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Having said that, the results are fairly close which indicates that each version has its own strengths and fan base.

If XenoWeek has taught us anything, it’s that the Xenoblade series is a fan favorite and we all wait in anticipation for what Monolith Soft decides to give us next.

Recency bias!   ;)

I'm shocked that X was rated higher than the original game.  Haven't actually played 2, so have no comment there... but many reviews that I've read have suggested it wasn't an improvement over the original. Surprising to see it score almost 15% higher in the poll.

All three games are so amazing that it's kind of hard to be too upset with any way the voting could have played out. For me, it's Xenoblade Chronicles > Xenoblade Chronicles X > Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but this could change depending on the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 updates we get throughout the year. I'm really looking forward to the story DLC later in the year, and even the version 1.3.0 update that released today is pretty substantial.

Oh wow, I did not expect this at all!

Though... it makes sense given how available the games are. The easy way to play Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X would be getting a Wii U. Granted, there's the New 3DS version of Xenoblade Chronicles.

That the voting for XC and XCX is so close is very telling, however, I’m baffled by XC2’s victory. While I love all three of these games for different reasons, they only barely eek out one another in terms of quality, and each game has a strength. However, based on how I view these games, there’s really a clear winner.

XC has a great aesthetic and tone, and it’s combat is commendable if only for its variety in play styles. It’s world design, music, and story are better than XC2.
XCX has a nuanced story and numerous systems that may overwhelm a player, and it’s combat is a bit more homogenized than the other titles. It’s world design and story are better than XC.
XC2 has a fantastic battle system. And that’s really it. It isn’t superior to the other games in any way other than some minor quality of life changes, which I don’t think is fair to factor into iterative releases.

But I guess there’s no one to really argue this with, the results have spoken and people favor XC2. I just don’t really understand why, but hey, I have very specific tastes.

I thought the first one was beloved, is it just too old now?  People always complaining about faces in X and sexed up robots in 2. What happened to Rein Time??

I am shocked as well. I thought X might pull off a narrow victory but to see 2 have such a high percentage is not what I expected out of this poll. 1 made it to the top 4 in the March Madness polls years ago and I thought it would have more support than 2 seems to have. Plus, sales of 2 haven't exactly been astronomical and with it only being out for 3 months, I figured there'd be less people who may have gotten around to playing it yet whereas 1 and X have been out for years. Could people vote multiple times? Maybe the polls were broken. (Or maybe there is a silent majority that really loves 2.)

Xenoblade 2 is the best selling in the series so it makes sense, and X has the underdog factor. X is probably the most ambitious and interesting of the three, even if everything it tries isn't perfectly executed.

I’ve been playing through all 3 - finished 2 about 2 weeks ago and dove into 1 and finished that now diving into X and 2 stands out to me as having the strongest stories and combat system, with the best graphics and end to end best experience.

1 was amazing with an amazing story, but there were many points for me that I just had to grind and the story came to a screeching halt this didn’t happen in 2. 1 on the Wii is a beautiful game and would love to see a HD remaster of it.

X is such an interesting beast, I love the affinity missions and the structure being much more exploration. I find so far the combat system to be the weakest and story is no where near as good as 1 or 2. To me yea 2 is the right call it learned from the past and created the best story with the best combat system in an amazing world with amazing characters. Music is great in all 3 and 2 didn’t disappoint there either!

The one that won is the only one I haven't played so I couldn't say I agree or disagree and the other two are so close in percentages that it isn't like one is getting a raw deal either.

I haven't beaten either of the first two and probably got further in the first one.  I actually never even got to the point where I was using a mech in X.  I love these games but they're unfortunately really huge and I just can never seem to dedicate enough consecutive free time to get far with them.  Something in life comes up, grown up **** if you will, and I don't end up playing the game for a few weeks and then it all just falls by the wayside because I've forgotten where I am and what I was doing.  This is a problem with games in general but it really affects these titles because they're so long.  I can fit a 20-30 hour game in no problem but 100 hours?  I wish at least one of these came out when I was under 23.  I would have loved these games and had the flexibility then to play them fully.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 shipped over a million in its first month (and has likely still sold respectably since then), while we never had any indication that the first two games managed to come close to that in total sales. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 may have won anyway, but I think the gap being this large is almost certainly influenced by the fact that more people played it.

The one that won is the only one I haven't played so I couldn't say I agree or disagree and the other two are so close in percentages that it isn't like one is getting a raw deal either.

If you have a New 3DS and handhelds afford you more time for gaming, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is a great port.

Actually according to Nintendo's own sales data, they shipped over 1 million units of Xenoblade 2 by the end of 2017, with only one month of sales.  The previous 2 games in the series never sold that much in their entire lifetime, so much larger amount of people played this over its predecessors in a much shorter period of time.  So to a large number of gamers, Xenoblade 2 is the only Xenoblade game they have played.

For me, I didn't vote because I couldn't decide which one I liked the best.  I haven't played 2 yet, but 1 and X both have enough strengths and weaknesses they make it hard for me to really say which one I prefer.  I feel the first Xenoblade is more fun early one, with a much stronger start, while X is kind of a slog until you finally gain the Skells.  But after getting the Skells and getting access to the full battle system with Overdrive unlocked, I had a total blast and ended up putting twice as much time in X then I did in the original.  I even 100% the entire map and all Affinity missions, something I never bothered to do with the first game since I grew bored with it around the 130 hours mark while X lasted over 270 hours for me.

I've put about 40 hours into the first game, 30 into the second, and I think around 20 into Xenoblade 2.  I probably shouldn't have voted but I did for the first game since I like the combination of story, place, and exploring the best.  X does beat it on exploring but I'm not sure if 2 beats it on story yet but I still like the 2 titan setup better.

The one that won is the only one I haven't played so I couldn't say I agree or disagree and the other two are so close in percentages that it isn't like one is getting a raw deal either.

That's kind of my problem.  I bought X without finishing Chronicles and now bought 2 without finishing the previous ones since I do love what Monolith Soft built with the franchise.  My problem isn't remembering the story or what I was doing when "grown up ****" pulls me away for weeks or months but rather the systems.  I've really tried to get back into X since the exploration is great but every time I do I spend an hour fumbling around half relearning mechanics, systems, and menus before realizing I have other games I can play and finish sometime soon.  So it returns to the backburner.
