Put down the petitions folks, this one WILL happen in the West.

The Valkyria Chronicles series of strategy RPGs will make its full Nintendo debut next year on Switch.

Sega has announced that Valkyria Chronicles 4 will launch worldwide on the Switch in 2018, as well as on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One outside Japan. No specific release dates has been nailed down outside Japan, but the Switch version will launch in Japan in summer 2018.

The series began as a 2008 PlayStation 3 release, with re-releases on PlayStation 4 and PC in recent years causing an uptick in its popularity. The middle two games were released on the PlayStation Portable, with the third title not being localized - though its characters did come west in the Project X Zone crossover series.

The dream is alive! I just hope they don't mess it up like they did with Azure Revolution.

Hopefully this one won't regularly crash ruining up to an hour of my increasingly limited gaming time.

I won't be getting this on Switch, but I'm glad that SEGA actually learned the right lesson from Valkyria Revolution's UTTER failure in EVERY territory. Other companies would have just cancelled the franchise.

In the West? 2 was on PSP. I have it on my Vita, and it's not very good. It ditched the wartime setting with believable characters for an academy setting with archetypes.

3 is supposed to be amazing, but SEGA never broightvit over.

No. Valkyria Chronicles 2 was kind of a sequel to the 1st game & 3 was a side story to the first game. However, the description SEGA put out for 4 seems to indicate that this will take place in a completely different location. There might be references to the stuff going on in Galia during the war, but this seems very much to be its own thing.

Probably the best comparison I could make is Ogre Battle 64. Sure, knowing what happened in the Zenobian War in the 1st game will give you context for certain characters, but it's very much its own story.

That being said, I highly recommend playing the 1st game if you have the opportunity & the hardware. It's like $13 right now on PSN for the PS4 version, and it's one of the best games ever made.
