Well you said "etc" so I thought maybe you had others.

The 3 I hadn't mentioned were Opoona, Alone in the Dark, and Smash Bros. Brawl.  I mentioned them a few posts after my initial.  The first two were so insubstantial and outright bad that I didn't consider them worth mentioning.  I just plain forgot the latter.

Like I said, you sold the good online games.

ZING!

I only had one game in that list who had a good online component (Mario Kart).  Metroid Prime 3's was more of a needlesly-complex unlock code, and I'll be buying that one again later with the Collection.

ZING!   ;)

And selling the best online games kind of puts a damper on things too.

I still own Smash Bros., but I really don't care about online in general.  Leaderboards, online guilds, and all that jazz (yeah, you see what I did there) are for people who care way more about their size of their internet ****s than I do.  But yeah, Smash Bros. aside I don't really have a game in my collection that can spawn the almost-party atmosphere that Goldeneye or Perfect Dark could in their days.  So when I finish a game, I tend to be done with it permanently unless it truly is that memorable.  That's tended to make my Wii library rather expendable.

I blame it more on the sheer amount of them they throw at them.

It reminds me of some Goldeneye levels on the harder difficulties that had infinite spawning enemies. I always hated that about the game. It was a spy game and I thought you should be able to eliminate every enemy in the level and wander around freely to finish the objectives.

You could in some cases.  I had a blast in that one Goldeneye level where you had to escape from the jail cell and take out the facility just luring enemies into my cell one-by-one so I could take them out and take all their guns.  Then I'd just tour around the facility blowing things up with no one left to stop me, even on the highest difficulty level.

EDIT: Incidentally, I was window-browsing my local Gamestop today and they still had one copy left of the Conduit Special Edition.  Damn, I almost bought it just to have a copy without the ****ty cover art...but I must resist...Batman's only 2 months away, and my backlog's insane as it is...

Yeah, it's definitely worth noting that the Japanese spend a much greater amount of time away from home than you probably see in any other country.  A heavy public transportation system, incredibly-dense population centers, 6-day school week, near-slavish work hours...definitely a fertile ground for handheld dominance.  In fact, you could probably argue that the Japanese are just so damn tired when they get home from all this walking, working, studying, and subway riding that casual games at home just fit the situation better.  It's still not a great sign to see a game like this sell so spectacularly when others fail when Nintendo (corporate) only gives a damn about the Japanese market.

No wonder you don't join us in the Wi-Fi nights.

I was beginning to think you hated us ;)

Nah, my Wii just hadn't been seeing any use since I got my PS2 (and later upgraded to PS3), so I've had it loaned out to someone who will actually play it.  Besides, even when I had it I was always working on the Wi-Fi nights.  Well, that and my not playing these games in so long means I'm pretty rusty.

In related news, everyone eventually dies and the sun appears to rise in the morning and set at night.

Yay! A fellow Fire Emblem fan! I love that game even if I've yet to beat it.

Looks like 5 if you include the ones you used to have. 5/11 so close to half unless there are a whole lot you didn't list.

Well, I did very briefly own Alone in the Dark (Wii) and Oopona before I traded both in due to them being utter garbage, but I think those are the only 2 I left out.

EDIT: Damn, how could I forget I still own Smash Bros Brawl? Man, having my Wii loaned out to my best friend for the last 5 months really did a number on my memory.

10784
50%, but that's mainly because I only still own 4 Wii games: Fire Emblem - Radiant Dawn; Resident Evil 4 Wii; Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles; and Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess.  I've owned other games in the past (Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, No More Heroes, HotD: O, Madworld, Zack & Wiki, Metroid Prime 3, etc.), but they've never managed to prove themselves worthy of being kept whenever I've needed trade-in credit for some other game (or they're getting new releases very soon).

I don't think we will have everyone calling The Grinder generic. What game do you get so many demented creatures in one? lol Zombies, Warewolfs, Vampires, and more!! lol It does look awesome!

People won't call the Grinder generic.  They'll call it a blatant rip-off of Left for Dead for an audience that otherwise won't have played that game.

Well, SEGA's found something that doesn't make their fans hate them, so you can't blame them for deciding to keep trying to throw unique games at the Wii in the hopes that one of them will do well.  I didn't care much more Madworld and found HotD: O to be low on replay value, but the more gamer's games on the Wii, the better.  It's kind of ironic that SEGA has turned out to be the savior of Nintendo's most profitable system.

It's funny that the Ghostbusters theme gets so much play in the DS version, as it's barely even present in the console versions (save on the mission loading screens and the intro video).

Deny everything and memory wipe the witnesses!

Though I am curious, do we have a contingency for another tie, or even a 3-way tie?

Last time this happened (last poll with Zelda II), it came down to James picking the winner.  God help us all.   ;)

...it's always been a rather soul-less experience without that person you're playing with there right with you.

So you'd rather play with bots?  ;-)

At least with bots I can enjoy some aspect of multiplayer without my best friend buying a Wii, a copy of The Conduit as well, and both of us scheduling simultaneous play sessions between the mounds of other stuff we're both playing on our own time.  Besides, AI bots done well ala Perfect Dark (i.e. with AI personalities) can make for quite enjoyable experiences.  They'll never match the quality of a true human being, but they have their uses.

Broodwars, would you consider renting it just to see if the online is alright for you? Or is it not technical issues that you are referring to when you say you've had poor online experiences. It would be a shame for you to miss out on it if that were the case.

Hmm..maybe.  My problems with online multiplayer have been partly technical, partly design, partly user-based.  I've just never found a game I found particularly compelling online compared to its offline counterpart, and it's always been a rather soul-less experience without that person you're playing with there right with you.  And when I have gotten an online match going, I've often found people online to be (for lack of the ability to use a banned word) jerks.  I suppose voice chat could rectify that a bit (dramatically in some cases, like with the Uncharted 2 Multiplayer Beta I played earlier this month), but I'm not buying Wii-Speak for a single game.

Broodwars - There aren't any bots.  It's strictly online multiplayer.

As I recall, Perfect Dark and Timesplitters definitely have better single-player.  It comes down to one word: personality.  The Conduit's story and characters are so generic that it's hard to care about the story at all.  And I won't get into any spoilers, but I will say that the story's conclusion is less than satisfying.  Perfect Dark and TimeSplitters weren't that original, but they had interesting and witty characters and stories that you could care about a little bit.

Well, guess my Conduit money's going towards paying off the rest of my B:AA CE fund then.  This game does look very good, but if the single-player campaign really isn't all that great and that's all I'm interested in there's really no reason to get this game now.  I'm better off just waiting for a price drop.  Sorry, High-Voltage, but you'll have to put a bit more work into all the aspects of your games.  I'll never understand why it's apparently taboo for an FPS to have an awesome multiplayer and singleplayer.  It's always one or the other.

There may not be any LAN-based multiplayer or anything, but is there any way for you to enter multiplayer with computer AI "bots" or whatnot for simple offline multiplayer?  I'd hate for there to be an entire section of the game essentially useless to me because I hate playing online multiplayer (I haven't had the best of experiences there).

As for the single-player, how would you compare it against something like Perfect Dark's (which I rather enjoyed back in the day) or even one of the Timesplitters games?  While none of those could be accused of being altogether original, they all had a nice variety in objectives you had to accomplish so it was still quite enjoyable.

10793
I can't make a PS3 comparison cuz Wii isn't even in that league.  So I'll describe it with successful consoles you're familiar with.

Hey, the latest Transformers movie sold over $400 million (making it reasonably "successful" in most people's eyes).  Didn't stop it from being completely ****.

And Deguello, my point was that Pro is fond of championing bad games so the fact that he's cheerleading the game isn't doing the game any favors for people who are on the fence about buying the game (like me).

10794
Don't buy it, you don't want to play wai-fai with other Wii owners.

It's so unsophisticated and last-last-generation.  You're better off with Doom 3: Cave Marine on Xbox with 4 players and better textures.

And Lindy gave it an 8.5, so the product totally misses the quality boat.  Anything below 8.7 on NWR is an automatic "wait for $10 amazon deal."

You know, if you're going to try and troll me you should at least use PS3 terms and games in your argument.   ;)

10795
Given Pro's history (according to GP) of promoting games that are completely mediocre, should I take it as a deterrent to my intention to buy this game that Pro is championing it so much in his usual half-trolling manner?

You know, I'd ordinarily agree about there being nothing "serious" to discuss about Cho Aniki, but considering our last two retro games have been seriously difficult and hardcore (and I'd argue "crappy" in the case of Zelda II) it would be nice to have something not so serious for the RFN crew to lampoon.  It just occured to me, though: why isn't Lords of Thunder in this poll?  That was a TurboGrafx game, wasn't it?

I agree with broodwars.

Why am I not surprised? ;)

If you know anything about our history, you probably should be surprised.  ;)

Ooh, another idea: What if on these new slide levels, you had to guide Mario toward nearby planets so you could take advantage of their gravitational pull for sharp turns? It would be kinda like some of the maneuvering in Orbital.

That would be pretty cool: devote an entire level to do nothing more than jumping out into space and manuvering Mario so that the gravitatational pull of the planets flings him forward into moons or other small things he can use as checkpoints/places to change trajectory.

Hell, I'd settle in general for more areas of the game that actually use gravity as their hook.  The first galaxy had a fairly complicated gravity mechanica that rarely ever was actually used for anything interesting.

The stars are pretty much the same as the end-level goals of the 2D games.

You don't have to keep jumping back into the same world over and over again to collect the end-level goals in the 2D games.  Once is enough, and then you move on to the next level.  The stars in Mario Galaxy do have branching tracks, but you're still covering a lot of old ground for most of them.

Home sucks balls. It's a lame advertising venue that takes way too long to load and has to update way too frequently. It had the potential to be good, but so far it hasn't.

You also forget that apparently you can't delete it once you install it, so once you have it you're stuck with it.

Can't you at least still format the hard drive?

I suppose you could, but since you'd lose all of your saved progress in everything (unless you backed it up onto an external device) and would have to reinstall about 3 years' worth of firmware updates I don't know if you'd want to do that.
