It would be better than the original if it had real analog control. As it stands it's probably even, with a lot more content, better graphics and other tweaks, but worse controls.

360 sold 45 more systems this week than the Wii.  Quite impressive I think.  It'll drop back down next week with not RE6 to help it out.
That's crazy, I think this is the first time that the Xbox 360 has ever outsold the Wii.

Is it safe to claim the Wii is dead without it being an overreaction or sarcasm?

Comedy "play it on 3DS" option?

It would be well suited to the 3DS, both because of the Circle Pad and because it seems like it would be really cool in 3D. I've bought Super Mario 64 too many times already, but I'd do it again if they updated it for 3DS.

The Wii has been on life support since the start of the year. DQX and to a lesser extent Kirby Dream Collection was the Wii's final hurrah. The next Taiko drum game might give it a small boost but it's probably going to stay at around 5k per week (Does 5k a week classify as dead) until the Wii U releases and it will probably completely die. It really depends on if Nintendo stops production or continues to supply retailers with stock. If they expanded their Nintendo Selects line to most notable first party games the Wii probably could live on for another year or two. Sadly it doesn't look like they'll do that.

I was under the assumption that you can use the circle pad for Mario 64 DS if you play it on the 3DS. Doesn't the circle pad also work as a d-pad in DS mode?

Even if Nintendo stop producing Wii systems, I think they'll still come out with one more batch of Nintendo Selects titles because they are playable on the Wii U. At this point, selling those games is pure profit, and I can see them being advertised as "playable on Wii U!" so that the early adapters waiting for games have something to play until more Wii U games come out in the future. For me though, I think I have most of what they'd put on the line, but maybe they'll surprise me and do something like Kirby's Return to Dream Land.

It can be used in place of the D-pad yes, but it's still digital control and not analogue so it doesn't help any.

Bravely Default and Project X Zone have a nice first week.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Square Enix’s new Nintendo 3DS RPG, was last week’s big release in Japan, and it came out the gate with 141,529 copies sold in its first week. That’s a great debut for a new franchise, and it’s even better when you compare it to first-week sales of Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light.

Released in 2009 for the Nintendo DS, Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light sold 114,714 copies in its first week. Bravely Default, which looks like something of a spiritual successor, outselling it without the help of the Final Fantasy brand is quite something. Congratulations to producer, Tomoya Asano, and writer, Naotaka Hayashi, on a brand new game!

EDIT: Bravely Default has a nice first week. Project X Zone doesn't.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy got off to a good start in Japan, having sold 141,529 copies in its first week, which is rather impressive for a brand new franchise.

Sales tracker, Media Create, report that Bravely Default sold through 85.68% of its initial shipment, adding further evidence that the game has sold rather well.

...

Meanwhile, Project X Zone didn’t fare nearly as well. The game sold 85,539 copies in its first week, and Media Create report a 57.55% sell-through for the game. Furthermore, 70% of the game’s first-week sales came from pre-orders, which means Project X Zone didn’t sell a whole lot beyond its existing fanbase.

What fanbase? Media Create compare Project X Zone to Namco x Capcom, which was released on the PlayStation 2 back in 2005. That game sold about 87,000 copies in its first week.

PXZ is made by a different team at Monolith Soft then the one that made Xenoblade.  The Xenoblade team has been working on something new for the Wii U.  PXZ was made by the team that made the Super Robot Taisen OG Saga games for the DS.

Probably has to do with who published it.

Namco Bandai (known as Bandai Namco only in Japan) is the publisher, that is why they are listed since the charts list the publisher.

Once again, Monolith Soft is still allowed to make games for Namco as long as those games are exclusive to Nintendo systems.

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier
Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans
Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED

All made by Monolith Soft after Nintendo bought them and published by Namco for the DS.

I meant to post this earlier when September's NPDs went up, but considering Darksiders 2 only sold about 1/4 million units in its first week and didn't even chart on the NPDs last month, can we officially declare Darksiders 2 a commercial failure now?  THQ said it needed to sell about 2 million units to justify a sequel, and even the rosiest possible sales for the upcoming Wii U version can't and won't make up the difference.  It's a pity, really...Darksiders 2 is a good game.

Just another example of a THQ not managing their budgets well.  The original Darksiders only sold 1 million copies, so allowing the sequels budget to get so big it would need to sell twice as many was very stupid of them.  Decisions like this are the reason THQ will be dead soon.

I'm surprised at how poorly it sold,THQ didn't do a bad job advertising it and people were talking about it. It had much more hype behind it than the first game.

We can't be sure whether it's a financial failure though. It could have made a small profit, but not one big enough to justify a sequel. THQ can really only green light games now that are sure successes.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy sticking to third place. It is sold out in a bunch of places so it must be doing well.

Speaking with Super Philip Central (via: GoNintendo), O’Leary remarks: “We’re not satisfied with the sales. The 3DS attach rate is… challenging at best and it seems that, for all its promise, Heroes of Ruin did not appeal to enough of the installed base.â€

He adds: “I am super pleased with what we made and would love to return to the genre one day, but I fear that Heroes did not have enough commercial impact to justify a sequel.â€

Bummer :(

Dang. That's really sad. HoR is one of my most-played 3ds games.

Maybe Nintendo can swoop in and save Darksiders Bayonetta style?
Carmine Red, Associate Editor

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Doubt it, the co founder of Vigil and the creator of Darksiders left Vigil. The series is basically dead now.
