Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime 2
« on: February 02, 2003, 02:04:46 PM »
Some of you guys must be pros or something. I finally got to Metroid Prime and it took me 5 or 6 tries to beat the first form, each battle seemingly lasting atleast 10 minutes. When I finally beat it and saw I had to do it all over again with a second form and with hardly any energy because the first form crushed me, I said forget it.  And that was with having over 90% of the items. That was about 2 weeks ago and I haven't played since. Any tips? The ice attacks from the first form just drained me.

Nintendo Gaming / A fine line to be number 1

Sometimes I wonder if Nintendo even really cares about being #1. What I mean is that while they'd love to be have the top selling console (who wouldn't), they aren't going to sacrifice money in order to make a run to get there. Most of us aren't business majors and yet we can see all kinds of things Nintendo has and is doing wrong if their main objective were to have the #1 console. Things such as not marketing enough, not matching competitors prices with software (players' choice titles), not blitzing the press enough like Sony and Microsoft do with future titles, and not keeping top companies (Rare) are a few examples. Nintendo specializes in this and has to forcast what each move will result in so maybe these aren't mistakes at all.

I think Nintendo is quite content with where they are now. Although they aren't #1, they are major players in the industry. They pretty much have a monopoly over a profitable handheld market and apparently are profitable with the GC. Their software sells extremely well. So while overtaking Sony would be great, it may not really be a goal. While we cringe when EA announces they will not support the GC with most of their sports titles, Nintendo is surely disappointed, but not to the point of doing anything about it. I think they are quite satisfied.

Nintendo Gaming / Skies of Arcadia - best GC RPG
« on: February 02, 2003, 01:06:07 PM »
I'll be picking up Skies as soon as I get through Resident Evil 0. Seeing as how I just started that game and can't kick my addiction to Animal Crossing, I hope I get to it before Zelda comes out. I'll be buying, just not sure when.

I've also seen the reports about a sequel depending on the sales of this game. I have my doubts that this game will sell well. It just seems that if it's not from Nintendo, games just don't sell well on the Cube. I guess it just depends on what Sega considers good sales. I hope it does well but it will fight an uphill battle the whole way.

Nintendo Gaming / Sonic Adventure DX

Actually, I kind of enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. The camera was just terrible though.

However, I must say that Sonic Adventure 1 is not on my must buy list. Maybe if it gets good reviews I'll check into it but I think there are better options out there. It would be nice if Sega would give us a new Sonic game instead of all these remakes.

Want to join the world's largest free Nintendo site?  If you've got the skills, we've got a few positions open.

PGC is hiring!  We need intelligent, hard-working volunteers to help make Planet GameCube the best it can be.  If you’re interested, please read the list of openings and the application criteria carefully.  (If you can’t follow simple instructions, you’re not cut out for PGC anyway.)

We are mainly looking for people based on location.  If you don’t live in one of these places but still want to join us, please do not apply now.  We hire new staff periodically, and something in your field will probably open up soon.

We need one person in each of these locations.  You don’t have to live exactly in this place, but you need to be close enough to travel there for press events on fairly short notice.

New York

Minneapolis

San Francisco

Japan

Europe (London)

Australia

Applicants must have some writing experience, preferably with published work either online or offline.  Obviously, you must also be an avid gamer who keeps up with all the latest releases for Nintendo’s systems.  You must be able to work with others and take on writing assignments, even if it means writing about a game you could care less about.  (Though we do try to make sure that doesn’t happen.)  You must be able to write in a timely manner and accept edits and critiques of your work before it is published on PGC.

Applicants that have access to digital cameras and/or digital video cameras are also a plus.

Your application should include an introduction to yourself, some personal information (age, location), at least one writing sample (preferably on the subject of games), and a resume if you have one.  Web links to writing samples and resumes are fine.  If you have photo evidence of your Nintendo fanaticism, feel free to include it with your application, though zeal for Nintendo’s games and systems is no substitute for writing skills.  Above all, make your application interesting, unique, and brief.

When you have read this page thoroughly and have assembled your application materials, send them to louiethecat@planetgamecube.com.  Please optimize file attachments as much as possible, i.e. zip up large numbers of documents and compress pictures.  Selections will be made within 2-3 weeks.  Only those selected will be contacted.
