Do you guys on the show get to nominate games or can any user place a nomination? Where do you do this?

Once again, I find myself spitting in the face of popular opinion with my feelings that Boom Blox is mediocre and should have been a budget title.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with me...

I ordered it for ~9€ from Amazon along with Sonic Riders ZG (13€ but effectively 10 because without it I'd have paid 3€ shipping)...

Is that the Euro symbol? I can't remember. Though whatever currency that is it looks like you got a pretty sweet deal on it.

Wow. I'm amazed at the Final Fantasy IV love. I didn't think it was that big a deal and it basically owned the DS catagories. What about The World Ends With You? I didn't see a peep on that game. Not that it's a big deal. It's an interesting game to be sure but I wasn't blown away with it like some people seem to have been.

Yeah, TWEWY might have slipped under the radar. I voted for that over Chrono Trigger on the IGN Best of DS polls. I heart TWEWY a lot.

Oh come on, Link's Crossbow Training?

It does seem a bit odd to have a current gen game up there. I though it had to been GC or earlier but i guess I was wrong. Who nominated that one?

I'll vote for ED since I have been thinking about playing through it again anyway.
FYI I noticed a repackaged ED at Wal-Mart a couple of months back with a "Plays on Wii!" sticker on it. So Nintendo may have reissued it recently. But that was still at full price and who knows, it way have just been that some retailers got a lot of stickers to put on old GC merch to move it faster.

Though do us users get to submit nominations? I was hoping to nominate the original Banjo Kazooie on N64/XBox Live.

Lastly, am I correct in assuming that the LM RetroActive is only going to last for one week instead of two since we are already posting the poll for #3?

I always assumed American Football is called such because it's derived from Rugby which itself was derived from Soccer/Football.  Canadian Football actually pre-dates American Football which was introduced to Americans by McGill University in Montreal who challenged Harvard to a game.  So blame us Canucks for calling that running/passing/yardage-gaining/very-little-kicking game "football".

I knew it, blame Canada!  ;)
Though don't forget tackling in your running/passing/yardage-gaining/very-little-kicking game "football".

And thanks for the little trivia/history lesson Ultimate P-B and Ian. I found it interesting. Good stuff to know when I talk to my mega sports fan friends.

A lot of the games you all have mentioned were actually nominated in multiple categories but just didn't win anything.
You want to list those that got nominated.

That would be neat to include an honorable mentions section which mentions all of the nominees.
I wouldn't mind even getting to see what all of the actual votes were for each game.

I took my little sister to Toys R us today to get her one for her game. They gave a free little poster for the next movie and a $5 off coupon for any DS pokemon game. The coupon expires tomorrow though.

I also was impressed with the guy working the counter because was up selling everything Wii related to other shoppers. It was totally the 'Do you want fries with that?" thing. He got one lady to upgrade her Wiimote purchase to WiiPlay and another guy to buy a WiiFit with an accessory kit within five minuets.
I just wish people would suggestive sell de Blob, Zack & Wiki and Okami to consumers.

Didn't the PS3 version of Godfather sell pretty poorly as well?
I don't know why VGChartz lists multiple versions for some systems but none of them did an overly astounding job.

The Godfather: The Game       PS2    87,000
The Godfather                  PS2    42,000
The Godfather                  X360 350,000
The Godfather: The Game      XBox    340,000
The Godfather: Dons Edition    PS3    200,000
The Godfather: Blackhand Edition    Wii    120,000
The Godfather: Mob Wars       PSP    90,000
The Godfather: The Game       X360 10,000

You can be so cruel sometimes... :'(

Well, I'm willing to give the concept another chance. If the sequel is polished up and doesn't have any components which simply don't work, I'd like the game. When the original game does hit the bargain bin, I might actually buy it again.

Does that help make things right? ???

Only if there is cake ;)

The reason is because RB worked hard to set up a model of being DLC centric. But the series has only been around for less than a year and a half. Time will tell if it can become sustainable in the long run.
The activity of RB 1 users on the XBox platform showed that a healthy dose of DLC did not cause a large number of people to stay with the game longer. The nature of DLC requires that gamers continue to play games after the initial launch and play cycle so they will buy new stuff. GH has a major one-time purchase supplemented with a lighter amount of DLC so it will not affect them as much if people decide to move on to something else and cease to buy DLC.
This year will be even more of a test as there will be no RB3 to draw users new and old into the fold once more.

Here is the link to the analysis data I referenced.

Yahtzee considers himself a serious reviewer. He actually mocks those who say he is a parody reviewer. He's just more bold and boisterous about his opinions than some others.
I consider myself to be a nice person but that doesn't make it true. :-\

I think it has more to do with the way he presents his reviews as to why he wouldn't be taken seriously. Just look at that video, it's a little cartoon with a bunch of random skits that don't really relate to the game, and the voice over talks too fast. Of course, if he didn't insert such randomness, nobody would watch his reviews as then all he'd be doing is tearing apart the games he reviews. Nobody wants to see someone hate on their favourite games. By that same token, nobody wants to see somebody praise games they despise. It can sometimes be a difficult thing to deal with.

The format and tone of his reviews are different, but he uses it to bring up very real and valid points or flaws about games.
I actually like to see him throw games I enjoy into the flames. Maybe I just and an infatuation with seeing opposing views to mine.

General Gaming / Re: World Tour Drum Kit & Guitar Coming Soon
« on: February 13, 2009, 07:47:04 PM »
Why would Activision/Red Octane give special treatment to a console.
I'm assuming that you were referring to my post so that is how I am responding to it.

For Wii the GH guitar is basically a $100 controller and the drums are a $140 piece. Since it uses a Wiimote that is housing a number of the electronics that help run the controller there is less technology you are buying in a Wii guitar or drum kit. Therefore it would require less materials to make and should theoretically cost less.

Rock Band guitars and drums are separate, complete controllers. They can run without the need of a Wiimote.

I don't see how making the controller price reflect the cost of manufacture would be special treatment.

You're Yahtzee?
Someone else does exist!

...Wait, isn't Yahtzee a parody reviewer who slams popular games just to stir people up? If I were to create a video review (don't think I haven't considered it), my loathing of the game would be sincere. And then my YouTube channel would be assaulted by blind fanbois telling me how much I suck using improper spelling and grammar.

Yahtzee considers himself a serious reviewer. He actually mocks those who say he is a parody reviewer. He's just more bold and boisterous about his opinions than some others.
Some people are just uncomfortable with big name 'awesome' games -that they and the 'majority' love- being torn into so harshly. Therefore they make assertions akin to him 'not being serious' and 'just being a parody reviewer'.

I never understood why American Football was thusly named. You use your feet in a lot of sports like you do in football. Tackleball makes much more sense.
Most people at my school almost exclusively call Soccer Football or Footy now.

Sratos, what other gaming podcasts do you listen to?  Here's my list:

RFN (duh)
Player One Podcast (consistently entertaining, more Nintendo friendly)
Joystiq Podcast (not Nintendo friendly at all, but very very entertaining)
In-Game-Chat (formerly Evil Avatar Radio.  Also not Nintendo friendly, but one guy goes on funny rants sometimes)
Rebel FM (Formerly 1up FM)

Well, since I no longer work a security job and my new car doesn't have a tape-deck (for my iPod to tape converter) I have decreased my podcast feeds since I don't have as much time to listen.
But from what I remember I listened to these (bold means I still consistently listen to them):
RFN
IGN Nintendo Voice Chat
IGN Game Scoop
IGN Command Prompt
IGN RetroCity
DS: Life
Wii Spot
The Wiire
1 UP Your's
Nintendo Podcast
Nintendorks
Nintencast
1 Up FM
1 Up Retronauts
Gameweasel
Twisted Joystick
Poison Mushroom

There were some others as well but they are not listed on iTunes anymore.
I just subscribed to the Rebel FM to check it out.
I'm also trying out Wiire again but like a said, I don't have as much down time for podcasts anymore.
I think I listened to Evil Avatar a couple of times.
I tended to add more and more 'B', 'C' and lower podcasts when there were delays on my favorites.
Filling nearly 40 hours of graveshifts with podcasts can be a daunting task if you want them to be quality as well.

I would rate RFN as an 'A' class podcast for both content and technical/editing quality [ / suckup ]  ;D

I had always thought that Nintendorks shut down years ago.
I wasn't too impressed with the Nintendorks podcast. A lot of "Um...(DEAD AIR)...Um"."

Then again it could have blended together with the plethora of podcasts (mostly gaming) I listened to this last Summer working graveyard shifts for 10 hours a night four days straight a week.
You guys were my favorite along w/ 1up Yours, R.I.P.

There are a number of horrible sounding podcasts from all manners of poor editing, conversation and personality.

Speaking of 1up, have any of you noticed the new 'Listen UP' podcast on the same feed as 1UP Yours? I haven't listened to it yet. A little nervous as to how it will be.

I was pleased with Godfather on the Wii, but guess what... Godfather 2 is coming to the PS3 and 360 but not to the Wii. Trivia games and fitness games seem to be all we're getting from third parties anymore, and I for one am sick of it.

I really think that with this EA announcement there is a strong possibility we will be getting GF2. I mean, were getting Dead Space and I would imagine that game requires a new engine possibly.  So since Godfather already has an engine and a framework set up from the first one that would make it easier to develop theoretically.

Though VGChartz places Godfather Wii at only 120,000 sales. That may be a major hurdle.

sometimes you can get a better deal on stuff from ebay. As long as you don't mind the fact the games are used...

Yeah though I've seen the opposite being true.

I ended up paying too much to re-buy Rogue Squadron off of E-Bay. You can get caught up in the bidding process. I thought I was bidding on the only copy but after I took the lead I started searching more and realized that a page later there were three more up for bid. Stupid me.

And I don't like to buy games used unless they are older. I like to support the games and devs I like by buying them. Plus I have a thing for unwrapping new games. And GameStop sucks for opening up new games to put the dumb box on the shelf and charging you full price. I will turn down a game if they pull one out like that.

Anyone checked out much of the new DLC?
Other than the 20 freebies I got Crush Crush Crush though I may get Hit Me With Your Best Shot because I liked that on GH3.

And this month is supposed to be when we start getting the normal new DLC like the other systems (just in time to get the 'Ten' album which is coming soon I hope)

On the downloadable content, I haven't bothered with any of the free songs sonce I've never heard of any of them before. I may preview them to see if they're worth a spin but I have to be careful of the memory I use up.

On the actual buying side, I've got Wonderwall by Oasis, love that song and I think it gives a good challenge for guitar, Call Me by Blondie, Message in a Bottle by The Police and a couple Boston songs. I feel the DC content is better than GH's so that's why I went with RB2.

I'd love to see Don't Stand So Close to Me by The Police as dowloadable content. I'd also like to see some Guns & Roses. They put in Shackler's Revenge for RB2 but that's not an actual G&R song, it's an Axel Rose project.

Frankly, I love the 80's and would love to see more of that music in the game. Quiet Riot "Cum On Feel the Noize" would be hilarious. And with all the Beastie Boy songs I've seen why hasn't "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" been included in something yet. I'd take some pop hits as well. It's so great to have some Billy Idol stuff now.

But most of all, I'd love to see some Pink Floyd included.

Also, RB's website mentioned that you could take songs from the original RB and transfer to the sequel. Is that possible with Wii? Because if so, that would be great and I wouldn't have to switch discs.

Sadly no. That was achieved by patching the older game and Wii cant really do patches. Plus where would you store it all? I'm just holding out hope for the RB 1 stuff to be offered as DLC for the Wii store.

Yes, Pink Floyd would be amazing. I want Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. If I got DSotM I would set up to play it all as a setlist and then get a second TV to play Wizard of Oz. That would be sweet.

But yeah....I still gotta go with Brawl.
You and the entire world.
That's okay though, it kind of makes me feel special that I'm the only one who doesn't like SSBBrawl.  ;D Maybe that could be my claim to fame... "Hey look everyone, it's that moron who hates SSBBrawl! What's the deal with that? Let's bake that person a cake for being so unique!"

But the cake is a lie...  ;)
I'm with you more though. I'm not as ga-ga for Brawl as everyone else is as well. Though it may be because I was away from most of my friends who would have played it with me. Solo brawl just isn't quite as fun and with online unplayable for me (not my connection either) I was sunk. Though it got better once I returned from school but it still wasn't quite there.

I was sad that Okami didn't win anything since I loved that game so much.

Though I feel a lot of it was spot on. I also feel 2k8 was a great year for Wii. Then again, I don't live on an exclusive diet of Nintendo developed games and am not afraid to check out 3rd party games. The fact I have only bought two 1st/2nd party endeavors and around fifteen 3rd party ones proves thus.

I doubt Hudson would make ALL of the mini games compatible with motion plus, in the same way that not every game in MP 7 needed the microphone and not every game in Rayman TV Party uses the balance board (and those that do can be played with the wiimote).
In that case, I hope any minigames which use the Wii Motion Plus have it as optional, otherwise its potential for sales will be hindered.

They just need to have the Motion Plus be a pack-in with Mario Party.
Wii Sports Resort, Mario Party Motion!, Zelda Wii and Wii -Motion Plus- Play with Motio Plus packed in would help distribute the little booger into a lot of homes and lessen the market split they are making.

Is that the only game along with Red Steel 1 that has split screen multiplayer (that is an FPS)?
Since Conduit is still a ways out I thinking about getting World at War. Does that have split screen or just online.

Far Cry...didn't that play horribly on Wii?
