Title: What project should I kickstart?
Post by: ThePerm on October 12, 2012, 03:21:16 AM
I've been wanting to start a Kickstarter campaign, but I don't know what people would rather me start. My biggest two web audiences is here and Facebook. I have tons of project ideas in mind, but I'm not sure what to focus on. I figure I would ask my friends on here

im also taking suggestions for things.

If you made a porno I promise you I'll never jerk off to anything else ever again.

I voted "Graphic Novel". It seemed to be the most feasible (without being obscene) of the choices.

I know it wash joke, but. Porno would cost more than $200 (unless you have some friends who would appear in it for free, as even low end porn would have the performers make a few hundred dollars).

What about if you started a kickstarter for a brand new online service which allows individuals to make donations to projects which might not overwise get funding? That would be awesome.

Specifically, all the types of projects banned from Kickstarter.

I voted Sci-fi short because those things have a history of being cool, interesting and relatively inexpensive. With shorts you're not being hampered by the traditional narrative structure because you don't have to hold someone's attention for more than an hour. Therefore, you can make the world as simple or as complex as you like and just give a vertical slice of that universe without the need to elaborate.

You mean "that's what she-male said."

Anyway, I vote a write-in for porno.

Looks like the poll has been changed back. Mods I thought messing with polls were suppose to be kept in the funhouse area and not when someone was asking for people's genuine opinion based on the options first given by the OP options?

In any case I voted for graphic novel because It is a good medium and I do believe Perm has said he has written some things in the past.

You should have joined in with the 17,000+ others of us and helped fund Reaper's Kickstarter (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1513061270/reaper-miniatures-bones-an-evolution-of-gaming-min). It's been finished for a while now, but they're still allowing late-joiners to jump in through their website... at least for the rest of the week or so. It was one of the best laid out Kickstarters I've ever seen, and certainly a huge bargain.

Likewise, Stonehaven is still accepting pledges through PayPal for their "Dwarven Adventures Box Set".
Paymaster Games just began their "Going Native" fundraiser.

I guess a lot depends on the size of your network and how generous they monetize, and how much attention you can get for the kickstarter and how sticky the idea is to people who hear about it. Given that all those are essentially unknowns if this is your first crowdfunding project, I think that starting small isn't a bad idea.

I think going sub $10,000 sounds reasonable. Specifically, I'm throwing in my vote for subversive web sitcom. Of course, choose something you are really eager to do, not just something you think will get the money.

Oh, and also, take the time to plan your reward tiers well. They're sort of difficult to edit/change/update once the thing is actually underway I think.
