Should I be expecting a PM? I'm just unclear as to the flow of the game. NEWB.

When I start the game, you'll get at least one PM.  I'm still holding out for a few more players though.  Harass people into signing up. :)

I'm going to be without internet from tonight to the 5th of May. If the game starts during that time I can still hop on at public places like the library and school but I will be very unactive because of it.

Don't vote me for the special role please because I won't be able to spend the time required for it even if I did have a connection at home.

But I still want to play.

Well, the library is across the street so I can go there but they limit me to 2 hours a day. :P

But I should have internet before the starting date of the 10th.

I still say don't vote for me for any special roles.

Okay, so it has come to my attention that there is a major game-breaking aspect of this Mafia that, virtually, wins the game for the townies.
Why would you have informed the host about the game-breaking aspect? You could have won it for the townies!

I'm going to guess it was Khushrenada who discovered it. He's usually the one who looks over the rules several times and gains quite an understanding of everything. Plus he is also the type of person who would inform the host of an issue instead of exploiting it to win.

I'm gonna guess it's basically that the monsters find out who Zedd and Rita are, but the monsters turn into townies when they die via power ranger weapon, leaving them no reason to be loyal to Zedd and Rita, and every reason to tell the townies who Zedd and Rita are, as well as what weapon they're weak to.

But dead players shouldn't be talking to live players, that's cheating!

That's before they die that this would happen, actually.

Have you payed attention to anything Khushrenda does in mafia games?! I really hope I'm misunderstanding sarcasm

He he. Hoo-ray for stevey. Always keeping me honest. Sadly though I had nothing to do with the discovery of this loophole. I honestly have had no time to play this game and I haven't even studied the rules yet. Nothing against Unclebob but I knew I'd be super busy when the game began so I didn't see the point in reading the rules when I can hardly play at the moment and could be hit in the opening few days. But thanks for thinking so kindly of me. Unfortunately, stevey's right. I'd probably try and use it to my advantage. On the plus side, I did vote for stevey to Zotron or Zordon whatever the name is. I like to confuse him like that.

So what is the deal with the game today Unclebob?
Title: Re: Mighty Mafia Power Rangers Player's Thread
Post by: UncleBob on May 14, 2010, 10:56:16 PM
Talking things over with Zedd and Rita.

Basically, the options are:
End the game - Random drawing to give out prizes.
End the game and restart, randomly reassigning all roles and reviving dead players (assuming anyone wants to play).
Play it through as is- play the game though and, perhaps, Zedd/Rita can pull something off.
Fix it and play through - introduce a tweak to the rules to fix the problem and play through.

What would the tweak be?
Title: Re: Mighty Mafia Power Rangers Player's Thread
Post by: UncleBob on May 14, 2010, 11:12:53 PM
Well, I'd have to reveal the problem with the game - and if we're going to play through without a tweak, I don't want to reveal the problem to everyone just yet...

I say we restart the game and change everybodys roles. If we go with this than I would like to know what all the roles are currently.

Aren't you guys already several days into the game? It feels a bit late to pull a restart. Though count me in as a new player if you choose to do so.

Bah. Fix it and move on. I can be your consultant. No need to lay things out to everyone. Just fill me in on how you want the roles to work and why they are broken and I'll give you a few suggestions and you take what works and we continue on this Monday.

If you going to continue, you may as well restart the game. No one was that into the game investigating possible roles yet to be upset.

(plus some people have already outed themselves)
Title: Re: Mighty Mafia Power Rangers Player's Thread

Yeah I think we should restart the game and maybe have a few days for new players to join.
Title: Re: Mighty Mafia Power Rangers Player's Thread
Post by: Stratos on May 15, 2010, 05:17:53 PM
I don't think we would get any new players. We already pretty much have the full roster of presently active mafia players and I don't think it would be wise to try and recruit more new players in this match. Veterans are confused by the rules enough as it is.

I say patch the hole and keep playing.

I'm dead so if you want someone to run any fixes by regarding the flaw you can talk to me. I'm dead and as a day one death victim I feel pretty unbiased about whether the mafia or townies win.

The townies discovered the issue so they should win!

Nah really, just patch it and continue.

I think we have a fix - running it by Zedd and Rita one last time, then I'll send the details to Zordon and see what s/he thinks before making the plans public and letting everyone know.  Thanks for hanging in there, guys and gals.

oh is this the game breaking thing?

if rita and zedd know who the power rangers are, couldn't they just announce who they are giving the game to bulk and skull and causing rita and zed to defeat the power rangers? Or would that be considered a losing condition for the villains?
Title: Re: Mighty Mafia Power Rangers Player's Thread
Post by: UncleBob on May 16, 2010, 01:50:25 AM
Bulk and Skull winning ends the game with a loss for both Zedd/Rita and Zordon/Rangers.  Bulk and Skull would get the prizes then.

So, here's the problem.

Zedd/Rita pick a townie to be a monster.  The spell succeeds.  The Townie, however, fails to submit a weakness and contacts other townies (and, ideally, another Ranger) to let them know they've been put under a spell.  Since the monster didn't submit a weakness, they can't make a hit overnight.  If they've managed to contact a Ranger, then they can be "saved".  Repeat this over and over and you've got no Monsters and no hits from Zedd/Rita - and the townies can slowly vote out people until they manage to get Zedd and Rita.

After talking things over with Zedd, Rita and Zordon, here's the fix we've came up with that doesn't over-power one side while giving both sides the chance to win.

The fix - If a Ranger saves a monster, that townie then has a 90% chance of "leaving town" - thus being kicked out of the game.  Granted, the Townie-monsters could still contact other townies, get saved and slowly make it an automatic win for the townies, but those monsters will, very, very likely, not survive the game (i.e.: they'll lose).

Weird. I thought if you were a monster, you automatically become "mafia" and couldn't give away info. If somehow the Rangers saved the monster, he'd have info on what Zedd and Rita made them do, but not on who they were. I thought Zedd/Rita gave commands through the host and not themselves.

So when the game starting again?
Title: Re: Mighty Mafia Power Rangers Player's Thread
Post by: Khushrenada on May 18, 2010, 02:10:14 PM
That's the problem? Why not just have Zedd/Rita choose the weakness of each monster keeping them in the dark as to what their weakness is? Then they can't tell the Rangers who'll have to earn the rescue. And to prevent the monsters from betraying Zedd/Rita, just send communications through the host who can pass messages back and forth between both parties.

You and I actually had the same idea, Khush.  When I saw the game's problem at the beginning, I thought that would be a good work-around, but I figured it wouldn't be nice to exploit the matter with the monsters, so I never said anything, figuring most people that would notice wouldn't cause a problem.

Weird. I thought if you were a monster, you automatically become "mafia" and couldn't give away info

In an ideal world, this was the plan - but it was never an official rule - and if it were, there'd realistically be no way to enforce it.

Quote
I thought Zedd/Rita gave commands through the host and not themselves.

The idea is that Zedd/Rita can supply partial information to their monsters, but the information they supply is completely up to them.  I considered using the host to relay information and commands, but that system has the flaw of Zedd/Rita having to send me the message, the delay of me getting the message and forwarding it to the monster, then the monster getting the message.  I figured it was better (and more interesting) to have Zedd and Rita choose how and what information they choose to share.

That's the problem? Why not just have Zedd/Rita choose the weakness of each monster keeping them in the dark as to what their weakness is? Then they can't tell the Rangers who'll have to earn the rescue.

If Rita/Zedd pick the monster's weakness, there's nothing forcing the Rangers to attack him/her - instead, the Rangers can just choose to save the monster overnight (if the monster has communicated with the Rangers who they are).

I'm going to leave this open for discussion tomorrow, then tomorrow evening, I'll send out notices to players, update the rules and we'll restart where we left off on Friday morning.
