Is this a make fun of mature link thread? That's what  thought it was going to be. Or are you decrying the lack of a quality screen of the concept art?

What I hate is everybody's got some kind of "Zelda Idea" and they all suck.

They're all about making him some kind of psychopath or some kind of pointless brooding anti-hero or a 20's detective or giving him a Mohawk or making him a Karate expert and putting him in a modern city and giving him guns and tattoos and having him be voiced by Eminem.

The worst part is there will be some dickhead who will reply to this very post and say "That be tight/sweet/wicked/da bomb."  Probably Animecyberrat.

LOL, oops, I didn't notice that the article was updated with a high quality picture.

So are you then decrying them for posting it even if it was a no picture event? They didn't sign NDAs so I don't really care.

Well D Average then.  Or DAVE RAGE or Da Verage. or however you say that.

Another bad thing is that most of these crappy idea come not from the hinterlands of Gamefaqs, but from real video game reporters who know better.  Your role is not to usurp the director's chair with your crappy ideas about a steampunk Zelda fighting game.  I mean do they do this with any other series or game company?  Nobody envisions a Final Fantasy set in Chicago in 1880.  Nobody begs for Metal Gear to have a Monkey Spy that shoots lighting from it's ass.  Why does Zelda get this crap.

Hell not TWO MINUTES after I typed that, this post appears on GAF:

Open with a close-up of Link taking a drag from a cigarette. The camera zooms out to show Link tossing the cigarette away. Then the camera moves behind Link, showing the skyscrapers of Neo Hyrule. Then we hear Link, in the voice of Max Payne, "No one beats the city. We get a few draws, a few good dreams in a lifetime of nightmares, but the city always has one hand better. The drugs, the sex, the murder... it's a losing battle, and we're only along for the ride. Last night a man raped his daughter. She'll never tell anyone about it. It's a sick world, and this city's the virus. The whores walking the streets, the single mothers, the tycoons in their penthouses, they're all just cogs in the machine. But I'm no cog. I have the Triforce of Courage, and tonight I hold a winning hand.

Zelda cops it because the game features the same characters in each game but next to no relation in plot. Despite this the world in almost identical and the themes the same. So Zelda has the capacity to be a Western or a World War 2 love story.

giving him a Mohawk

You had me at mohawk.

But seriously, at what point do you play the "reboot card" and go in a new direction? Sure, Wind Waker hinted at that - and got bagged because of it but I think its about time to try something new.

Uh-oh, serious territory. Time for Funhouse derailment.

Oh yeah, don't ask me about Toilet Princess. I think I got a glitched PAL disc because I left Link in some dungeon because we couldn't be bothered finishing some puzzle. It was totally mutual though. I never finished the game, but it smacked of the whole same story (aside from defending that carridge mission, that was pretty rad). Sure, some people get off on riding horses around the countryside for 20 hours, and power to them for that.

But to the rest of us, something's gotta change. And not something trivial...

Oh sure, change is essential.  But nothing shouted out on a games forum or posited by a pimply neck-bearded games journalism editor who just read 30 .docs of FFVII fanfiction with "illustrations."

If anything I just want a little equality.  Like have 20 or so Mario fans in every FPS's demonstration asking where all the magic mushrooms are and getting all self-righteous when ignored.  Because that's slightly less retarded that having Zelda "Ideas" coming from games journos that bear an uncanny resemblance to the hot new action movie that their sister site just blasted advertisements for.

It's fan fiction. If you want to judge other's pastimes go ahead and make yourself a fool, but do you really think so low of Nintendo will act based upon on what its fanbase (including videogame "journalists") wants?

Not really. The only element the fanboys wanted back is that it didn't look like Wind Waker, and adult Link. Everything else that was in the game you can't say it was never in any other Zelda game.

Alright, bearded girl Link, Blink. Story: she joins the freak show circus after being outcast from her small town her entire life. She befriends a magical owl who tells her the Legend of the Unbearded Lion. During the story, the circus catches fire and Blink saves all the animals and people from the flames.

The Hero of Scruff soon learns the animals are part of Ganon's plot to enslave Hyrule with an assortment of entertaining animal circus acts, freak show horrors, and hi-wire antics by turning its inhabitants into animal performers.

In the final battle, Blink must reveal her true identity and out-perform Ganon in a series of dueling Motion+ circus acts only for Nintendo Wii, Christmas 2010.

In the end, Blink's beard, the source of her power and ability to transform into a lion, is transferred to the Unbearded Lion who then returns with the Ringmaster's Ocarina to the Mysterious Jungle, and Blink reverts to a beautiful elf-lady. The townsfolk apologize for their treatment of Blink, and immortalize her story by passing on the Legend of the Unbearded Lion.

Edited for clarity.

That report was wrong, it was just some family org calling for a ban, not an actual law.

And another thing.  What is with this irrational desire to put voice acting in everything?  The only voice acting in Zelda ever were those awful CD-I games and I think we all want Nintendo to distance themselves as much as possible from those travesties.

Voice acting in general blows.  I mean the best it can be in any game is "not crappy".  So why do all these steampunk fanfiction writers stay up at 4am waiting for a Zelda announcement that they know will never be what they envision because nobody wants Starfighter Link making a pass at a Death Star and having him yell out "Win one for the Gipper" speeches.

Even good voice actors can do a sub-par job, and I think a lot of that depends upon the VO Director (I believe that's the name of the job). A great actor could ham up well-written dialogue without realizing it, and if the VO director doesn't realize the tone of the scene, realize the one actor's problem, and effectively describe the problem to the actor so s/he can do a better job, then the voice acting will still suck.

It was one of the very few import games I played as a kid, but I remember it fondly.  Slippy yelling something that sounds like FOX DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEE when you crash is burned into my brain for all time.

Really? I played that game so much i can almost recite the damn script from beginning to end.. its pretty bad actually lol Even just thinking "USE THE BOOST TO GET THROUGH!" i can visualize the exact scene in the game where it happened.

How can you forget such classic lines as:

"are you gonna listen to that monkey!?!" - Falco
"Sorry.. but we gotta jet ;)" - Fox
"You can't defeat me, I've got a better ship!" -Pigma*
"what the HECK was THAT!" -Falco

and the dreaded...

"FOX! GET THIS GUY OFF ME!" -Slippy

The best voice acting in the game is in the speech that explains the back story that plays before you start the game.

Voice acting was amazing in:
-Eternal Darkness
-MGS: Twin Snakes
-Deus Ex
-The Wing Commander Series (at least the ones I played)

...And many others. Games can get voice acting right if they actually put the effort into it.

But Zelda games don't need voice acting. I think the quiet subtle charm of the text is just fine.

And how could you forget "Slippy's not such a screw-up after all!"?

Pshaw.  Pshaw.  I outplayed Mario Kart with Double Dash.  And MK64.  And stuff.  Brawl is where it's at, but I've got set-up to do, my Wii up in my room isn't connected, and I actually haven't played the US version of Brawl on it, ever :o

Mario Kart Wii is more awesome than all previous Mario Karts. Combined. That's a lot of awesome.
