And yes, UB is miserable because he is destined to to grow old and die as a Walmart employee, fearing that people will trample over him and value a piece of plastic more than his own life.

He's clearly talking about U2's new single. Their sound and music was much better before but now that they have changed it, they're just not the same. You can hoping that they can turn it around and achieve their former greatness and go back to their rocking roots but they don't. This new attempt is the worst I've heard yet and I think all hope is lost for this group.
