Title: Favorite PIE!?
Post by: Bill Aurion on January 10, 2009, 12:07:18 AM
Okay this isn't a poll if you give a description and explain why you like a pie... :@

My favorite pie is PUMPKIN PIE!  It was the first pie I remember ever eating, and it tastes like, I dunno, pumpkin...:@

What?  Okay, pumpkin pie doesn't really taste like pumpkin, pumpkin tastes like ASS by itself...But pumpkin pie is something I have always loved eating, especially with whipped cream or ice cream... =O

Problem is, no one really eats pumpkin pie except around Thanksgiving so I have to wait until then to have some...WHY ISN'T THANKSGIVING ONCE A MONTH!?

Pie, pie, pie...

Pumpkin pie is good, but whipped cream is lame.

Also how do you know what pumpkin tastes like?  Did you eat a spoonfull of the goop you dug out of your jack-o-lantern at Halloween?  That stuff smells funny. D:  I've eaten roasted pumpkin seeds before they weren't bad.

As to my favorite Pie.I love Lemon Meringue Pie because of the Meringue is so fluffy and tasty.I love getting a spoonful and putting it in my mouth and then slowly dragging the spoon or fork out while my mouth is closed.Yummy! The Lemon is also great with its Lemoney goodness.I love doing what I did with the Meringue with the lemon part also.So great! When I do that with both I am in heaven!

As you can tell I love Lemon Meringue Pie!

I'm not sure if stevey makes me laugh or cry.  A little of both, I suppose.

I like apple pie the best, but only if it has those little crumbly things on top and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

My favorite pie is Peanut Butter Pie, but it's like pumpkin pie in that the only time I ever get it is around a holiday, in this case Christmas.

I like my pies filled with meat covered in tomato sauce and floating in green pea soup AKA a Pie Floater.

Delicious.

My favorite pies are cherry, pecan, and pumpkin.  I enjoy eating pie with ice cream and sometimes whipped cream.  One time I bought a cherry pie and my friends and I went to see Wall-E and we ate the pie while watching the movie.  Best decision ever.

I also enjoy apple pie, peach cobbler (not sure I've ever had the pie version, but they're similar), key lime pie, and others, but each has a problem that keeps it below my top three.  For instance, I don't like apple pie as much because the apple chunks don't really MESH with the pie, they're too large and distinctive.  The flavors are together but they don't blend perfectly with the crust and everything else.

I love Natchitoches meat pies.  Shepherd's pie is also pretty good.

So is this discussion about desserts or just pie? Cuz there are so many other forms of desserts I'd rather have than pie.

I love any pie because it's a dessert, and I pretty much love all desserts except the ones that have powdered sugar on them.

Problem is, no one really eats pumpkin pie except around Thanksgiving so I have to wait until then to have some...WHY ISN'T THANKSGIVING ONCE A MONTH!?

Stop playing animal Crossing, and make yourself a pie.

What the hell pies are you Americans going on? Pies have meat in them and maybe cheese, or mushroom, or leak or bacon (alongside meat of course). Sometimes if I'm not feeling like meat I'll have spinach and ricotta.

poontang pie is meaty, so is shepherds pie, pizza pie(deep dish)

Hey, chips are not FRIES. And Pies are not PIZZAS.

Besides, fish and chips from England are fucking disgusting. I had the same at a place a little outside Cape Town. It was literally a stone's throw from the water. IT WAS A HUNDRED TIMES BETTER.

I've never had pie (unless you count the stuff that comes out of the can of worms gp was talking about. I've had plenty of that)

What do you hell do you call a food with a crust just around the sides with a sweet filling, then?

I've never had pie (unless you count the stuff that comes out of the can of worms gp was talking about. I've had plenty of that)

You've never had ANY pie ever?  That's impossible...You've probably had it many times, but the awesomeness of the pies knocked you unconscious and you lost the memories of eating them...

I've had lame McDonalds-type "apple pie" but never the traditional sense. No one in my family bakes and the only dessert we ever really have for thanksgiving, or other holiday feast, is a cheescake.

Pecan pie is my favorite because it's sweet and sticky and crunchy and makes picking up all the pecans from the trees in my parents' and grandparents' yards worthwhile.  The things are everywhere.  The trees drip sap on everything, you can't walk barefoot because stepping on the sharp end of a pecan will make you curse your own mother, and shelling the pecans is the worst chore in the history of child labor, but it's all worth it for that golden brown piece of heaven.  I like that.  Pecan Pie:  It's heaven you put in your mouth!

Side note:  The word pecan is not pronounced like a container you urinate in.

Chocolate pie is a close second, even though I used to only eat the meringue when I was little.  It would be my favorite, but it's so hard to make right that I rarely get a perfect one that doesn't have a weeping meringue or runny filling or soggy crust.  Of course, even the not perfect ones are delicious, but a perfect one is worth its weight in gold.

I have to agree with EC (were you making this point?).

Cheesecake >>>>>>> PIE

A cheesecake is more akin to a tart.

Never seen that ">=l" thing. What is it?

They're all in the same family, but they are all quite unique in their manner of preparation. Pies are fully cooked. Tarts can be fully cooked, but not necessarily, and they do not have a top crust, and apparently my pastry instincts were right on as so this quote "Cheesecake is a large family of sweet, cheese-based tarts" from wiki confirms it.

Pfffff, pies don't need a crust on top (pumpkin pie, for example)...And here's a dictionary definition of "tart":

1.    a small pie filled with cooked fruit or other sweetened preparation, usually having no top crust.

and another...

2.    a covered pie containing fruit or the like.

and another...

3.    Slang. a prostitute or promiscuous woman................Whoops...

Never seen that ">=l" thing. What is it?

I wasn't trying to make a point but yes, cheescake pwns and as a New Yorker I'm obligated to say that NY cheesecake is superior to all, just like NYC pizza is to that food category.

also please note i said NYC pizza and not NY in general ;)

Ok you got me with the pumpkin pie. An exception in my opinion. See the thing is as I was grown up in Europe to me a tart will never have a top crust (with the exception of trying to make the North-American version of a tart) and it is a pastry, while the pie does have the top crust but it is not a pastry just like Rabicle was trying to say.

Sorry. I've never been good with smilies.
