Title: New Servers
Post by: MegaByte on January 14, 2008, 01:27:23 PM
You've probably noticed the recent unreliability of the servers.  These problems should be a thing of the past!  We actually were already in the process of migrating to new servers when this happened, and so accelerated the process to get things working again.  We've got a new host, a new, very, very fast and capable server, and new software.  Because of all of these changes, there might be a few minor glitches in the site.  If you come across any, please let me know.  The domain name will settle down in the next day or two.  We're planning on doing some significant upgrades to NWR in the near future to take advantage of our new resources, including new forums, so stay tuned!

Alright!  How long ago did this happen?  A few times I've clicked on things in the forums, I've been taken to the whole website's main page, and I think the times are off today, as well, but I've already noticed the better speed.  Thanks!

Edit:  Yes, the time is off two hours from the time I have my profile set to, but only for posts from this afternoon.  My post says it was posted at 9:41, rather than 7:41, for example.  Also, I couldn't leave my profile without putting in a birth date, something that's never happened before.

New forums?  Does that mean HIGH DEFINITION AVATARS?

Silly Pro, the Wii is not Hi-Def.

BTW, is it still Cold Fusion based? Is the forum database going to move over?
Title: RE: New Servers
Post by: MegaByte on January 14, 2008, 03:04:50 PM
The new forums will not be CF based. The database will be converted manually.  I'm not going to worry about the timezone setting since the forums will soon be changed. The random links that take you to the wrong place are probably just something stuck in your cache and should settle down once the DNS update propagates across the internet.

FYI, Forum search by author seems broken.
Title: RE:New Servers
Post by: Crimm on January 14, 2008, 03:18:55 PM
Well everything seems to be okay except that the NWR URL is being converted to IP address.  I'd guess it's move related, just weird is all.

The NintendoWorldWiiport link just broke....
Title: RE: New Servers
Post by: decoyman on January 14, 2008, 03:53:51 PM
I actually just noticed that. Hmm, was this the backup plan when the Planet Gamecube name changed? Did "74.52.183.162" lose out to "Nintendo World Report"? If so, I have to say, it's a travesty. Just using the numbers.. why, it's numbers, which are universal, thus mirroring Nintendo's blue ocean strategy. And plus, names are so blasé these days.

I think you guys missed an opportunity here, I must say.

?

these keep popping up everywere
Title: RE: New Servers
Post by: that Baby guy on January 14, 2008, 04:22:49 PM
They aren't popping up for me, rather, I just see a normal question mark there.

The problem may be one with your computer, browser, or font, stevey, though I'm no expert on these things.  I just wanted to note that I see normal question marks where that thing stevey pointed out is.

I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be a question mark either

Do you guys actually use the NintendoWorldWiiport domain? =P

It'll work again as soon as the dns stuff updates.  I will have to fix it when the forums change though.

I think chat is broken as well, but it's probably just the java applet.  It's not like anyone really uses chat right now, anyways.

Fixed chat and wiiport to varying extents.  lol

Chat is still acting borked to me.  The applet doesn't seem to be trying to start up.

LOL I totally forgot about chat on this place. However, Java sucks and i'd rather use a native client.  What is the channel and server for the chat?
Since I don't have Java installed, I can't see that for myself on the chat page.

Any why can I type so far over to the
 Now thats ad blocking.

I still see the weird question mark everywhere.  I'm using the latest Firefox on XP, if that helps.

Edit: This is weird.  When I copied the character and pasted it into my post, I saw the weird one, but after posting, it changed into a normal question mark.

I'll try to fix the weird character issue once and for all once we switch to new forums.  The old forums don't properly support Unicode apparently...

Is that imr-worldwide thing your host? I'm trying to figure out which cookie stores my login because just whitelisting this IP won't make it pass.

It says there are post that are not actually there.

For example, it says that Mario was the last to post in the DS Sales thread @ 11:25pm PST but I have the last post in the thread @ 11:01pm PST.

Where did his post go? Why won't you let me see it?

EDIT: it shows up when I use IE, but not when I use FF. weird.

I know this is sort of selfish.  But I was wondering if the codes for links, Bold, Italics, Underlines, and line break are same on the new forum software.

Bold, italics, underlines, and line breaks will be the same.  Links will change, though we could feasibly add a bit of code to handle the old way.

Does this new server suck or is it just my computer?

This site has been loading sooooo slow for the last week or two, its starting to get real annoying.
I have to surf other sites while I wait for this one to load.

It's not the new server specifically or your computer.  We're having a problem with our database, which existed before the move, and are still in the process of resolving it.

Yeah...

My damn provider is broke... as I'm the one who registered that domain, it has nothing to do with official NWR stuff.

I called them today and complained.  They said they were working on it.  I asked when it would be fixed.  They said "We don't put timelines on things."

I wish I could have that mentality at work...

But yeah, that's why my avatar and palehour are broken too.
