Nintendo 3DS gets an inflation.

The Nintendo 3DS is coming to North America, Japan, and Europe, on August 19 in North America and July 28 for both other regions.
The upsized version, called the Nintendo 3DS LL in Japan, boasts a 90% larger viewing area, with a bottom screen increased to 4.88 inches wide.
The new version will feature an improved battery life of 6-10 hours, and will sell for 18,900 yen on July 28. The system will cost $200 in North America while the price in Europe is currently unknown. It comes pre-packaged with a 4GB SD card.
In Japan it will come in three color variants, white, red and black, and silver and black. In North America the system will be available in two colors, red and blue. In Europe the system will be available in blue, red, and silver.
We'll post more information the instant it becomes available.
UPDATE: In Japan and Europe, the new model of the handheld will not come with a power adapter with the intention of recycling existing cables from previous DS iterations, but there will be the option to purchase the cable separately if need be. The North American version will come with the adapter included in the box.
So... How do I go about transferring everything from my 3DS to my upcoming 3DS XL? :DSystem Settings > Other Settings > System Transfer. You can do this only 5 times though, so use it wisely.

All I wanted was a 4DS...
All I wanted was a 4DS...
The 3DS just came out a little over a year ago. Give it a few years.

Just read on IGN that the 3DSXL will not be packaged with an AC adapter, that seems a little odd.
And why doesn't this new model have a circle pad pro built in?If I had to guess...
I suppose Nintendo is going for parity with the original 3DS. A larger 3DS with an extra circle pad would kind of look like a completely new product.Like I said, a right circle pad still would have been nice to have.
And why doesn't this new model have a circle pad pro built in?
I want one.... but I will no longer be able to carry it in my pocket.
Really Nintendo? Curse you, CURSE YOU. I hope the Wii-U fails and the 3DS is beaten to dead by an enraged Iphone. All you do is cater to casuals and make your fans feel terrible about being your fans!!!!!!SONY FTW(http://i.imgur.com/loais.png)
~Ahem. Now that's over I must say, I'm really disappointed in Nintendo. You couldn't wait to get all our money could you?
After you denied that rumor just a few weeks ago.....And after what Miyamoto said....I think I'm gonna be sick.
Nintendo betrayed us. ALL of us. Why couldn't we see this at E3? Now I don't want a 3DS at all.
Good job Nintendo, you have officially lost my money.
I might still pick up the smaller version, but know I don't know....

More serious than a heart attack. That's sad.
Could you calm down Tora? I wouldn't even call the XL revision. More like a version that stands along side the original. There is no need to buy this thing ever. It adds nothing new to the table besides larger screens. Nothing else. No need to act like Nintendo killed your dog and fucked your wife.
Maybe Miyamoto doesn't consider this a revision. I don't think the XL is meant to replace the existing 3DS like DS Lite replaced the original.

I just don't know if I trust Nintendo to make it quite that easy. ;)
I'm definitely in for a 3DS XL, but I'm going to wait until November since there is always a bundle pack made available for the same price. I'm hoping for a $199 3DS XL with Paper Mario personally.I hadn't even thought of that. I think you're probably looking at $220 or $230 for an older game like Mario Kart 7 or Super Mario 3D Land. I'd be surprised if they gave you one of their big holiday releases for free.
It depends on how much info needs to be transferred. Data is sent via Wi-Fi, obviously. I've never done a System Transfer before but it probably only takes a few minutes.
I just bought a 3DS today, along with some games and a Circle Pad Pro. *sigh* Well, this 3DS isn't available in Purple like mine, so that's something I can take solace in.Ok I can't sympathize on this one because you purposely said you were holding off on opening till after the Nintendo Direct just in case something like this happened.
I'm not sure what they could be announcing for 3DS, though. I was going to pick up a 3DS today, but I think I'll wait till tomorrow just to be safe.

No right stick no buy. >_>
I want my 3DS XL in black with a second stick and 4 shoulder buttons.
Cant give me that nintendo? i'll just use my launch day 3DS

Not including a second slidepad is deliberate in distinguishing the handheld experience from the console experience, is my best guess. Had it been there, the 3DS XL would literally just be a small Wii U in terms of functionality.
(and the games which require it)
This revision breaks compatibility with the CPP peripheral (and the games which require it). It should have been integrated into the system by default, but since they didn't do that now they have no choice but to make a new CPP peripheral to fit the XL.No games require a Circle Pad Pro. The closest is Kid Icarus: Uprising which is apparently near unplayable for left handed people without the CPP. Even then, that's not really a requirement. Backwards people such as myself can still play the game.

What about a potential Call of Duty for the 3DS?
That's exactly my point. Maybe no games require it right now, but maybe something would have in the future... but since Nintendo is breaking compatibility with it this might kill these games off before they are even born. Is it more likely we are going to get a COD game with awkward controls or simply no COD game whatsoever? When it comes to FPS genre games you NEED this.
That, of course, assumes a great deal more creativity from Activision than I think they're willing to do for a portable game.
I think this is the very reason why the 3DS has not received any COD game to date.I doubt it. There were Call of Duty games on DS and that didn't have 1 circle pad.
I doubt any game will ever require it.
There were Call of Duty games on DS and that didn't have 1 circle pad.
What is your explanation for this?Modern Warfare 3: Defiance came out last November for DS. It was developed by n-Space. My guess is that Activision hasn't moved development to 3DS yet. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the missing right circle pad which can still be supported if they want to use it.
I still don't understand why this is a big deal.
Nintendo will release a CPP XL
COD is currently the best selling video game franchise on the market. You don't understand why the fact this franchise is completely absent from the 3DS is a big deal?I was referring to the right circle pad, not Call of Duty.
Never bet against Nintendo releasing unnecessary peripherals for their systems. There will be a Circle Pad Pro XL.
Anyway, has anyone put any thought into what a CPP XL would do to the size of the 3DS XL?Anyone even interested in the XL is probably not too worried about size. A CPP XL isn't going to change that mindset.

They gotta save something for "revision" #2.
First they resell you the SUV model.
then they release the CPP built in version of the regular (that has inward facing 3D cameras) and make you buy that (3DSi)
and then they can release the CPP built-in version (also with inward facing 3D cameras) in XL (3DSiXL)
It still sucks that they denied this and made it like a few weeks later. I don't think that's right.
Every person on these boards except for you 2 believed Miyamoto's words were gospel.
Chozo I think you would just be happier quitting Nintendo all together.
But, when Miyamoto was interviewed, they likely weren't working on a new version; it was already done.
I know, I hate that logic, too.
I didn't believe it then either. Then, why do you care? You're complaining to complain.
I disagree. I grew up on Nintendo. So? That's like staying in a relationship you're miserable in just because... well, I don't know why people do that. It's silly.
That is most likely what the response would be if someone asked him about it now, at least.Ehh, it makes sense though. It would have made more sense if the XL launched alongside the standard 3DS, but that's water under the bridge now.
Ehh, it makes sense though. It would have made more sense if the XL launched alongside the standard 3DS, but that's water under the bridge now.I actually think it would have if it were feasible. But at the time, the larger 3D screen wasn't economical and Nintendo might not have had manufacturing capacity. And people really wouldn't have gone for the $300 price point or whatever it would have been.
Then, why do you care? You're complaining to complain.

I complain because I want Nintendo to succeed, and if I think they are making blunders or mistakes I'm going to speak up, and not be a Yes Man who thinks they can do no wrong.Who exactly are you speaking up to?
Do you get what I'm saying?No. I really don't.
Who exactly are you speaking up to?
No. I really don't.
You didn't believe Miyamoto then complained that he lied. I'm struggling to see the logic in that. Why are you complaining about something you didn't believe to begin with? Miyamoto didn't make a blunder. He's obligated to answer the way he answered because of his job. I haven't the slightest clue why you're so offended by that.
What is so difficult to understand about someone not approving of lying? You don't know him personally so I don't know why you're taking it personally. If my best friend lied to me, I'd be upset. If my mom lied to me, I'd be upset. If a man I have never met and don't know who lives on the other side of the planet lied about something that impacts my life in the smallest way (and even smaller in your case because you don't have a 3DS and don't seem to want one) because his job dictates he answer certain questions in a certain way, I'd shrug my shoulders and move on with my life.
Well, aside from us no longer being able to trust anything Miyamoto says in the future it probably isn't a problemHappy New Year, Chozo. It's going to be a great 1996.
Wait, how old are you Chozo?
Chozo - did your disown your parents when you found out Santa wasn't real?
"I really feel like I'm satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it's the best for this generation. What we're thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld."Looking at Miyamoto's quote again, I agree. DS Lite was a complete redesign of the original. Nintendo changed everything from the shape to the materials used to some system settings like the screen brightness options. 3DS XL probably uses all of the same basic components except the screens which forces the body to be made larger. It's more like getting a different container of cookies than a "better tasting recipe."
I suppose it really depends on how you take that statement. Is the 3DSXL really a change in the hardware? Sure, it's got larger screens, which, on a handheld, is technically part of the hardware, but the specs of the system are the same...
I would get the larger version every time.
I wouldn't have bought the XL at launch if it were available anyway.

If Nintendo had said "Oh, we're going to announce the newest DS system hardware tomorrow" and pulled out the 3DSXL, people would have been very underwhelemed.
