Patent trolls are lame, I'm surprised this didn't get thrown out by the court.

Considering that the facts that Anascape doesnt really exist outside of a few patents already details our legal system in a nutshell.

There were screens with the little Wifi bar at the corner of the screen during some of the regular game sequences. Sounds like the 2 player function was removed during development. I really wish they would've just put it on Virtual Console, the battery in my cartridge isnt in the best shape.

Well...the conference was unpredictable, thats the only credit I can give it. Otherwise, I think Microsoft really trumped the opposition here. Microsoft has all the big names, Nintendo has itself, Sony has home. Its coming, they assure us. Oh damn. its coming. I'm starting to care less about the Wii and, well, video games in general.

"Damn! How am I gonna get a piece of the Wii pie now without holding stocks in the company?"

Oh good. Treyarch. I knew there was a reason this sequel was coming up so quickly. They're the same folks behind CoD2, which was another sequel that came up too soon. At least its not World War II themed this time, I think. But come on. This IS too soon after CoD4, which is supposed to be this grand daddy of shooters.

Then again, I heard the same thing about Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and I hardly hear anyone talk about that anymore...

All I want to say is...why doesnt Nintendo just make a new Mario cartoon? If Pokemon was such a success, then they also did Kirby and F-Zero...come on.

Hell, Donkey Kong is my main character. Just keep in mind to make him go slow, as thats how to get the best use of him (Though why his running attack is a kick instead of a barrel roll is a mystery to me) Hold a direction on a stick (Instead of tapping) for an attack with a great reach, really quick too. Anyone who has a giant or metal status effect can be trapped when DK does hs handslap move, making it almost impossible to recover unless they can escape or they lose the affect altogether. Of course his Smash attack can basically send people with 60-80% damage to their death (Dont forget to use Up+A in the air to send people upward) Finally, his Smash attack is best used in the middle of the stage, along with timing to the music. Making it tough for people to get back onto the stage (Or at least trap them in a corner)

His Up+B move can do a pretty good combo if you can land it just right...

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Why does Nintendo hate the Game Cube?
« on: June 05, 2008, 11:35:51 AM »
Nobody wanted LAN.  Yeah LAN support is assumed for an online game (except an MMORPG) but the Cube was supposed to be ONLINE.  THAT'S what people wanted, that's what the market was ready for, that's what Nintendo LIED about.

But it would've helped the Gamecube at least a little. Plus it would've given Nintendo a reason to continue to put out the darn thing in the first place. Hell, there IS a reason why the system has a handle on it. The Gamecube is more portable than the Xbox, making it easy to set up. But Microsoft was able to break the bank with Halo. Halo was popular because of the multiplayer, and the fact that the Xbox had LAN capabilities made it way more popular. You realize that people didnt get Halo 2 until 2004. Halo 1 came out in 2001. Besides the somewhat casual appeal, Microsoft got the upper hand in the beginning, and just made the kill with Halo 2. It took awhile before Microsoft got to make the day with Xbox Live, and even further down the line for Halo 2 to come out.

Halo is the reason people bought an Xbox, and LAN was a huge component to the game before Halo 2 could blow the original out of the water with online play. If only Nintendo could have the same deal with several other titles. I could really go for some cooperative Pikmin 2 over LAN, which was one of the plans that they never finished.

Ironically all three games were racing games.

Phantasy Star Online was a racing game?

No, but it wasnt a Local-Area-Network game either.

Personally, they didnt really find a selling point for the system and attempted several ways and sometimes did it really half-assed.

I thought the Gamecube would've been a strong LAN-enabled system, but only three games ever supported the feature. Ironically all three games were racing games. Then they never bothered with such a feature ever again. Not even for any First Person Shooter games, it would've really helped the Timesplitters games definately. Their library had a similar problem the Nintendo 64 had, a good number of Nintendo's games were 4 player multiplayer games and a number of them were RACING titles. Wave Race, 1080, Mario Kart, Kirby F-Zero... They also didnt bother controlling the amount of Mario spinoffs that made it to the system. There was Mario Sunshine which people found 'okay' at best. Then there was Paper Mario 2 which i consider weaker (Not the weakest) Paper Mario game simply because it borrowed too many mechanics from the first game. (Partners had similar or the same abilities, combat was essentially the same) the rest range from sports, to DDR, to racing. Not exactly system seller material there.

Gamecube to Game Boy Advance connectivity was something they were advertising around the beginning of the GBA's life. It was soon around Pac-Man VS. that they really tried to hammer it down. Animal Crossing was the biggest of them all. Sporting not only the isolated island feature or sending NES games to the GBA, there was the e-Reader that let you get pieces of furniture, T-shirt designs and more. But that was it, all third parties could really do was unlock extra levels, basically forcing consumers to shell out cash for more content through these unimaginative ways. Not to mention that cord was really finicky, barely nudging the cord causes it to disconnect. The GCN to GBA cable and the e-Reader was also a small part of what Nintendo tried to expand the GCN life with: Perhiperals. The only way to play AND enjoy Donkey Kong Jungle Beat were to purchase a pair of Bongos. You could buy the game by itself for $40, which is really stupid. Since bongos cost about $30.

Its worth nothing that their blue water strategy did come in around the time Reggie came along advertising the idea of people coming together, playing games and enjoying the experience together. Nintendo had game catalog books at certain retailers and had pictures of people huddled at the TV together playing the Gamecube. But they still didnt really have the game that could help promote the idea.

This is partially why the Wii is a refinement. The Wii remote can be placed into cheap sometimes in-expensive plastic molds, you can connect the DS without any extra wires, though nobody is really jumping on this wagon still. Which provides an easy way to play that anybody can come in, which makes their advertising successful. They actually have some games that they can advertise as the party system without having to rely on their own properties that could alienate their hardcore userbase. So Super Paper Mario, even though based on an RPG series, is a platformer thats very easy to get into.

The only problem with the Wii is obviously the third party support. They feel that the only thing that sells on Wii are party games. But since most developers just churn out a product without actually putting any real effort into it, it just flounders. They basically offer the same thing Nintendo already did, like boxing or skiing and its worse because Nintendo already pulled the idea off. Nintendo also has a better idea how their hardware works, so 3rd party developers can usually get it wrong and basically not work properly, like in Monkey Ball. So they want to emphasize how to play games by saying (Well you have to stand like this and keep one leg up, otherwise it doesnt work.)

11
Blah blah blah, Rayman platformer, blah blah blah.

I might as well as face it, Rayman isnt coming back...they're not listening to my pleas.

Red Steel 2 would be better than these, what happened to that game?

Toki Tori wasn't originally "done" by Capcom. They just published the GBC re-envisioning of a game that the original european developers had done before under a different company name.

That name being....Two Tribes.

So they didnt change their name at all.

copy, babblefish, paste, click, copy, paste i could've done it myself in like 2 seconds

Right, like translation is really that easy and 100% fool proof and has no grammatical errors whatsoever. Oh, and the term LOCALIZATION is an oxymoron. In no effort is there to make sure theres no offensive content to certain races or demographics during that process.

Do they legally have to release each game in multiple languages?

I thought that was the case some time ago. That there was some law or something passed that all the languages had to be represented or something. My memory is kind of vague on this.

That said, there is a little bit of Nintendo having problems with their European division. At least they've improved in certain aspects (Like they actually have some Virtual Console games that US gamers really want)

TalkBack / Re: SPECIALS: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Online: How is it?
« on: May 17, 2008, 10:13:33 PM »
I could care less about leaderboards, personally. I'd never be able to make it to the #1 on the list simply because I dont have the same free time as some other die hards. The lowest time ranking is completely different from a win/loss record. You dont have to spend countless hours to show that you have the biggest dick on the Smash Bros. leaderboards. Mario Kart is all about getting the lowest time. You DONT have to spend countless hours honing your skills to show off how you're the best. Plus, Smash Bros is a little too random to be able to get a fair win/loss ratio, in my opinion.

Plus, what about the other extra features Brawl online has? Getting stage builder levels, screenshots and replays at random or even WATCHING people fighting and betting on who you think is going to win. Even if its a crapshoot, just like real life gambling. Most of those features happen in the background, you can get messages for things like that. Obviously not for whether friends are online. But heck, I guess thats what IM programs are for these days. But people are so lazy that people would wish that their 360 systems (Or whatever they choose) played games and cooked their TV dinners while having a picture-in-picture showing of the game and some other TV program. (Maybe a reality show for the casual viewer?)

Like I said in the Mario Kart thread, Smash Bros. is about syncing the other players together. Mario Kart just interprets whats going on. In Smash Bros., you wont find turtle shells going straight through other players with no effect because all the players are seeing the action 1-1. Whereas in Mario Kart, the turtle shell appeared to have passed through a player on one screen. When in reality, the victim never got hit on his screen. If he does, theres a second delay for it to register for the shell's owner.

As for voice chat. So what? Talking in the middle of most multiplayer matches could get you killed. At least in the text based days of games like Quake, Unreal and so forth. Its not like Nintendo is up for releasing any microphones for the Wii anytime soon. And I doubt people would like to spend $130 to connect their DS for chatting. Waggling the Wii remote in a pumping fashon whilst talking on the DS (Hopefully not in the sense of the gameplay mechanic of BLOWING on the system, the combination could be something masterbatory) is not the solution I'd want to see. Sakurai doesnt work at Nintendo anymore, so he might not share the same ideals as some other divisons around or in Nintendo itself. Its possible the Wii could have voice chat, if there was a microphone.

« on: May 16, 2008, 09:02:04 PM »
I still dont understand why people think Smash Bros' online play is broken. Its just what happens when you have a crap connection (especially if your Wii is connected wirelessly) Its pretty much how every other online fighter works, right? I doubt (Gameplay wise) that online play could run similar to Mario Kart where it usually interprets things, where Smash Bros. makes an effort to sync everything together. If you play Mario Kart Double Dash through tunneling, it does the same thing, but since it was made for LAN play instead, trying to play against others online would make the game run very...VERY slow.

Well, its a known fact that European kids are the stupidest beings on earth with no sense of imagination whatsoever.

Well, okay not really. Its just politicians of any kind.

This was one of the Game Boy Color games Capcom published back in the day, alongside Shantae. Its a nice little platformer and in my opinion, one of the best looking Game Boy Color games, though I did get stuck fairly late in the game, its quite tough.

I'm looking foward to this one, even though it seems to be a remake rather than a sequel of sorts...

STRONG BAD'S COOL GAME FOR ATTRACTIVE PEOPLE

Not only has Telltale introduced Sam and Max to the Wii, but what about the episodic series for WiiWare?

Whats awesome?

Thats awesome. Even though Gamespot broke the silence before Telltale gave out the official press release, the Telltale blog re-assures April fools savvy watch dogs by taking the right item and "clicking" both pieces together.

Gamespot reaveals the release date as this fall.

Nintendo Gaming / Broken Sword DS Listed at Gamestop

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=180480

I dont know if its false or if its old news, but I'm sure excited. You may remember Broken Sword last seen on Game Boy Advance, with that horrible glitch that could destroy your save file and force you to start over. This version is being published by Ubisoft supposedly.I'll be on board if the entire game can fit onto the DS cart.  Hopefully it'll do well enough to warrant the sequel on the DS.

Heres for good hopes Ubi.

Brawl is streetdated, and several stores are doing midnight releases, such as Best Buy, Gamestop and Game Crazy. As well as competitions to go along with the launch. Obviously they're pushing this game as their Halo 3, though I kind of doubt that this is going to be all that successful (But the delay makes sense if they're to ship a truckload of copies)
