I didn’t know Terry Crews was in Deadpool 2. I was going to watch this anyway, but more Terry Crews is always a good thing.

I still think Fox should have called it “Untitled Deadpool Sequel.” Maybe under Marvel.

I also wouldn't be surprised if some of those late reshoots are to add Black Panther or additional (JL?) movie related gags that just became relevant after recent test screenings.

I'm sure DP 2 will b far be my favorite X related film, 2nded only by the original BP.

Currently the #5 Domestic movie with a chance to take down both Jurassic World and Titanic in coming weeks
#2 on 2nd Weekend Gross (Domestic)
#3 on 3rd and 4th Weekends Gross
#4 on 5th and 6th Weekends Gross
Currently sitting at #12 on the Worldwide Gross list, with the opportunity to jump to #10, bumping Frozen in the next few weeks.
Largest February opening ever, and so many other little records on the charts.

An incredible run for any movie, but made only more special by what this movie was and represents.

It's a good thing no one put bets on X-Men: Dark Phoenix, it just be came invalid as it moved to next year. New Mutants got pushed back even further too.

XM:DP moves to 2/14/19 (1 month before Capt. Marvel w/ "same" alien threat)
NM moves to 8/02/19 (that's enough time to reshoot the entire movie)

Do you think this is because the upcoming Fox/Disney merger? Would Disney benefit by delaying major films so they can be listed under a different accountancy balance? Although the new X-Men date runs rather contrary to that, so maybe I'm just tinfoilhatting haha.

Very little accounting benefit to moving the dates.

The acquisition is probably gonna trigger a restatement to show Disney's books as if they'd always had them anyway. Delaying a potentially large amount of revenue just makes the retroactive consolidation easier.

It's delayed to a few weeks before Capt Marvel, probably just to show skrulls first, out if spite, just like Quicksilver and "not" Scarlet Witch in DoFP.

There's a chance New mutants never sees a theatrical release though, depending on when the buyout is complete. But I doubt any of this is because Disney wanted it to be. Legally they have no say over anything 21st Century Fox does until the ink dries and the deals complete.

The drama surrounding New Mutants:

summary: Director/Writer had a vision for a R horror movie. Fox said "nope, PG-13, light on horror, more Young Adult", Fox took script to committee writing room (14 writers total) to change story and horror elements. Director contractually shot what was scripted, film tested positively.
Fox for some reason released a trailer hyping the movie as FULL HORROR which got great buzz. then send director back to increase the horror elements of the film... like he originally planned (but still keep PG-13?).
Originally had Warlock in script, but Fox thought too expensive.
also had John Hamm to do Mr. Sinister, but Fox killed that right after additional scenes shot to lead into it.

still tl:dr
Basically, Fox fucked with the movie from script to shooting to budget, and now it's kind of a combination of ideas that needs to be fixed.

I didn't post about it last week, but Donald Glover posted a "script" for an episode just to give you a taste of the humor and current social commentary present in the show. (it was on Twitter... I'm sure it's still out there somewhere, but it wasn't on Glover's twitter no more)

The leaked script seemed pretty on point. But he did write it supposedly just to release it to twitter, so the commentary was VERY current. I only read part of it, but it could''ve been good.

and I don't think having an unrelated cartoon that is exploring much different stuff than the movies that might show up once every 2-3 years would be too much Deadpool.

I don't think too much Deadpool is a bad thing. That doesn't seem to apply to Spider-Man who has that animated thing in the pipeline as well as the on-going Marvel movies.

Yeah but Deadpool is a pretty bandwagon-y character, blowing up really big over the past couple years despite being around since the early 90s. I think a lot of his popularity comes from people who want to like him because that is the trendy thing to do, and the saturation point will be reached too soon if they aren't careful with the character. For example, Avengers 4 will be ridiculously successful, but I bet X-Force doesn't make 75% of what Deadpool does.

Iron-Man has been around even longer and is seeing a surge in popularity, but that doesn't stop Marvel from putting him at the center of the MCU.

Granted, Deadpool is kind of a niche character at his core, and his schtick could wear out on those who aren't really into him.

Black Panther B.O. Update (it's been a while)

Black Panther is set to pass Titanic for the #3 spot on the All-Time Domestic Gross list today.

It is also going to cross $1.3B Worldwide this weekend to further cement itself at the #10 spot on the All-Time WorldWide Gross list as well

But will it have enough left in the tank before IW to take #9 from TLJ?
and if can do that, will it also have enough left at home to cross $700M domestic?

Those are the 2 milestones left to watch with BP.

It's been quietly killing the charts. But now that The Rock has proven that Spider-man is a loser jabroni and not even a record holding property anymore, maybe Sony will just dump that trash to the next available suitor.....
