Rumor: Retro Studio's New Game is a New IP
« on: May 29, 2013, 11:30:49 AM »

Could Retro be working on something entirely new?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rumor/34373

Retro Studios could be working on an all new game, according to one staffer at IGN.

In a video playthrough of Super Metroid on IGN, one of the commentators commented on Retro's new game, saying that he has heard rumors of it being an all new IP. Though not a rumor posted on the site, IGN has been right in the past.

In the past, rumors have supported the idea of a new Metroid or Star Fox game from Retro Studios, but this leads us to believe that there may be a chance of an all new game. Retro Studios has developed many games including Donkey Kong Country Returns, the Metroid Prime games and helping on Mario Kart 7.

I'm a staff writer here at good ol' Nintendo World Report, but I also have a Nintendo website at www.nintendogamerthoughts.com

How bad must it be to say an idea that you have, or reiterate something you saw on gaf or something, and have every website on the internet write an article about what you said?  I can't even imagine!

I would really like this rumour to be true. The people at Retro are a talented bunch and I'd love to see what they could come up with if given the chance to create something wholly original.

I was going to post this but I checked the front page first, thoroughly this time. I'm becoming more like my father.

The only thing I don't want to see from Retro is Metroid. Just yet anyway. Since last E3 I've had no worries about that at all. Now though if it's a FPS, ok I'll check it out. Just please no roided out baldies in an HD brown and grey invironment.

If its going to be realistic I can accept nothing more than secret agents or Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings kinds of fantasy realism.

Well, there's a 50% chance of this being true.

If you guys are jerking me around and they're just working on Mario Kart I'm going to be pissed.  I hope for this but to see it on the front page as a rumour will just make that much more painful if it isn't true.

Of course I've thought of another horrible scenario - Retro makes a new IP and it's shockingly uninteresting like they decided to make a pinball game for the eShop or something.

Whatever it is I would just like to see it at E3.

So the dude from IGN called it a "new brand." Could that potentially mean an old IP turned into something new like the way Smash Bros was a new brand? Just throwing out the I unwelcome possibilities.

I am ready for a new 3D Metroid, but a proper new IP would be much more exciting.

Not sure what they're working on and at this point as long as it isn't Mario Kart or Metroid i'd be fine. I personally want a new Star Fox game or maybe a revival of that Old retro project Raven Blade.

All I hope is that it can at least come close to living up to the massive amount of hype it's been getting.

I wish they were making an open world rpg like Elder's Scroll/Dragon's Dogma but set in Japan with samurais and ninjas.  Have it be completely open and let you be noble or cutthroat.  I'd lose it if this were to come true.

I will be both shocked and immensely pleased if this turns out to be true (so long as it isn't the kind of "new IP" Microsoft assigned to Rare on the 360 in the last half-decade), but unfortunately Nintendo being Nintendo they're probably just working on a new installment of a decades-old franchise.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

This is *NOT* the time to be rebranding Mario Kart.

A Star Tropics revival at this point would be considered a "New IP" as far as I'm concerned.

keep that in mind when they finally reveal the "new IP" they are working on. ;)
