Wonder if the Console RPG's are just dying in Japan--it's handheld or bust at this point.  Xenoblade is selling at what I expected which is going be around 600-700k global, not sure what Nintendo is expecting or the budget of this game but the Xenoblade games haven't sold all that well in Japan.

Xenoblade X did what Xenoblade did for launch weeks on like, a tenth of the users. So it's got that going for it. But most of Xeno's success is in the West.

I think Xenoblade X could sell more than the first game overall, since there are so few games to choose from on Wii U.

There's also the fact NOA is actually advertising the game this time and it won't be a Gamestop exclusive either which by default should give it higher sales as well.

I can't fathom a legitimate reason that Nintendo would make this game exclusive to anywhere. Whatever Surprise game Nintendo has for E3 more than likely wont be released this year. So what we have outside of the eShop is:

Xenoblade X
Star Fox
Devils 3rd
Fatal Frame
Yoshi Yarn
Lego Game 654
Project Cars (maybe)
Blops 3 (maybe)

They can't afford any retail exclusives outside of Amiibo.

We didn't know Captain Toad existed before last E3, and it was out before the end of the year. Pretty sure the same was true of 3D World the year before, and there are a bunch of other examples from earlier like DKCR and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I don't know that it's very likely to happen this year, but I certainly wouldn't write it off.

Should be 1 or 2 surprise games.  Nintendo seems like they'll need the filler, and they have engines in which they can create easy(-ish) sequels (e.g., Super Luigi U).

From your lips to Gods ears. Fair point my friend but I expect no miracles while walking amongst these new mortals.  In the past I have expected way too much from Nintendo when it comes to a solid release schedule. Now I know that the gods of old are no more and whatever is not announced is not coming until its coming

I think a surprise game at E3 for 3DS is most likely in the cards, but I would be shocked to see something outside of what has already been announced for 2015 appearing at E3 on the Wii U side of things.

Mario Maker has a confirmed (post Zelda delay announcement) release date of September so that isn't the holiday title. My guess would be the ol' JRPG 1 2 of Xenoblade for the West and #FE for the East. Or it could be Iwata's teased unannounced game to be released in the fiscal year ending March 2016.

I'd imagine a new Animal Crossing would be the big game they release in Japan this holiday since that's the biggest Nintendo franchise in Japan that had a Wii game but hasn't had any Wii U version yet.  Plus it makes sense considering the Animal Crossing team hasn't made a game since New Leaf which was first released Fall 2012 in Japan.  There was a 3 year gap between Wild World and City Folk last gen so a 3 year gap between New Leaf and Wii U wouldn't be that surprising.

Animal Crossing is a safe bet since we've already seen the character models in that peculiar plaza application, and New Leaf is on something like 9 million sales so they'd be crazy not to do a Wii U installment.

Anyone who anticipates an Animal Crossing for Wii U will receive no respect from me even if it is the most viable holiday title. I doubt they will make any significant improvements from the 3DS version and that essentially makes it a waste of an installment much like Super Mario Galaxy, 3D Land, Fire Emblem Awakening, etc etc

That Galaxy 2 is better and ultimately Galaxy stripped the player of movement options and had a limiting and awkward camera and is massively overrated?
