TalkBack / Re: Ace Attorney 6 Announced By Famitsu; Localization Confirmed
« on: September 01, 2015, 12:19:21 PM »
Wonderful news that's it's actually coming to the west, on the other hand it seems like such a massive waste of resources to not localise The Great Ace Attorney, which is now basically confirmed since Capcom have tried to buried it whereas Ace Attorney 6 has been confirmed even on the official twitter account day one. If they cannot justify localising spin off titles why not, you know, not make spin off titles? Surely they could be working on something else other than milking Ace Attorney for all it's worth, or alternatively they could milk Ace Attorney for all it's worth but with entries in the main series instead of spin offs. If the western audience is ONLY receptive to Phoenix Wright and will ONLY buy an Ace Attorney game if Phoenix Wright is on the cover why not make the games with this in mind? If the same amount of effort went into The Great Ace Attorney than any other Ace Attorney game why was it not called Ace Attorney 6 from the get go, you could have just shoehorned Phoenix Wright into the plot without compromising the story one would think. Perhaps this infringes on artistic integrity, but if Shu Takumi truly cared about artistic integrity I think we would see more titles like Ghost Trick and less Ace Attorney spin offs that never even leave japan.

The obvious choice for the next retroactive is Super Mario Bros. 2/USA. I would love to do a deep dive on that one.
I second this, by chance I just started Mario 2 for the first time yesterday via Super Mario All Stars on the SNES someone was giving away, I had always had a Megadrive before this and my first proper Mario platformer would have been New Super Mario Bros for DS which put me off the franchise all together.

Mario USA is much more of an adventure game than your typical Mario platformer and lacks the sense of speed and inertia that the others have. The Birdo(?) fight is also really annoying and felt repetitive after the first encounter, heaven forbid you get sent back to the start of the world and have to do it all over again. The music is awesome though.

I was surprised to find out all of the sound and graphics had been redone initially thinking it was just a compilation cartridge. Super Mario Bros is timeless but I just can't for the life of me get past world 8. Mario 3 is also fun and the remake fixed some of what put me off about the originals artstyle but my one complaint is that the goombas look so incredibly ugly, like worse than they do in Super Mario Bros for NES.

Another surprise with it is that the SNES has a toaster-like eject button!? A very strange novelty coming from the Sega systems.

This seems to always happen, Nintendo goes a few months without a direct and then fans rationalise it as Nintendo Direct is dead forever. There isn't a pattern to directs it's just whenever they have a substantial amount of information to share. The directs have been on an upward trend in 2015 with most directs having over 1 million views with some having over 2 million views. The Nintendo Direct is an event, to keep it's event status they need to be careful about having enough content to satisfy someone familiar with past directs, if they put one up once a week it would lose it's event status and the viewership would go down.

I suppose you could have cobbled together a direct out of Pokken + Shovel Knight + Mario Maker + Others but I imagine they are still getting back on their feet after Iwata passed away. However I don't think that means the direct is gone, game specific directs have nothing to do with Iwata and the recent traditional directs where his condition was deteriorating seemed to fine without him being there. It's just a matter of having enough content so that fans don't go away disappointed, with Wii U and 3DS winding down it's only natural for their to be less new information and having to wait a bit longer for enough information to accumulate for a decent length presentation.

Well there it is, now it's official. Big fan of their work on Fire Emblem and Monster Hunter.

I really enjoyed Layton Vs Phoenix Wright, in terms of Layton hooks or beginnings to a Layton story I think this one is by far the best, but in terms of endings it's one of the worst perhaps tied with Miracle Mask.

If the port is thought through KSP could be the best gamepad use yet.

This rumour sounds very plausible with the special indie event coming up, won't have to wait long to see if it's true.

It sounds to me that he's just referring to 2016, nothing to suggest early 2016.

When the shoulder buttons stop working.

I've never tried Sin and Punishment maybe I will try one of these out.
I hear the Wii one is easier, can I jump in on the second one or do I need to start with the original?
I have only played the second but I can say with absolute confidence that the story is a negligible part of the experience. Greg Leahy imported the Japanese version back in the day and his comprehension of the story was on par with everyone else who had watched the story unfold in English.
There is also a co-op mode in the star successor but it isn't very good.

Well Nintendo has just got another US patent, this time for a achievement system/game recording. Though it has a slight chance of being retrofitted for the 3DS and Wii U, we will probably see it on the NX.
http://mynintendonews.com/2015/08/24/nintendo-has-registered-achievement-sharing-with-recording-patent/
That patent is for NES remix 2, knowing Nintendo I doubt they will ever really use it again.

A Xenoblade Chronicles X panel will be held at Pax Prime. I'm guessing this is where we will learn more about the voice acting and possibly about 8-4's involvement.

1213
In the Project Treasure trailer it said "Next Information Summer 2015" I think TGS technically is still within summer so we could see it again there.

Mario Tennis is the same day as Star Fox in Europe, it's surprising how little is known about it, I hope there is more to it that just being a hd remake of an N64 game with the only addition being obtrusive mushrooms.
I wonder where Fast Racing Neo fits into the lineup, it's still supposed to be 2015.

News of the week: NoA decides that retail version of Fatal Frame is too risky, decides to go digital only.  Other regions still getting choices, including deluxe collector's editions...
... and Girl's Mode 3. To be fair the physical edition of Fatal Frame has sold out with no re-stock in sight, although one thing that certainly hasn't sold out is this Devil's Third t-shirt http://store.nintendo.co.uk/games-wii-u/devil-s-third/11158307.html?utm_source=mothership&utm_medium=gamepage_relatedinfo&utm_campaign=devil-s-third

I got round to playing the demo and I really enjoyed the train level since it felt like you were playing the song where as in LOL it felt like the music just plays and you do your own thing.

I haven't never played a rhythm he using ABXY buttons before so it was interesting to compare the two modes. The button mode has you at a disadvantage since you have more things to worry about with the d-pad for directions and the 4 buttons however since the position of the buttons is more digital than a touch screen I found it easier to switch off and let muscle memory take over.

The 1 time demo was a mistake by the way and it has been fixed now, although I'm not sure what happens if you have already downloaded it and used up your one use. As it stands I am sitting at a fresh 29.

In terms of medical point and click DS games there is always LifeSigns Surgical Unit, by no means a great game but I feel it was thrown under the bus a bit for not being Trauma Center, personally I enjoy both styles and think there is room for games leveraged on gameplay and games leveraged on story.

1217
the only 32 gigs argument....you can just buy an sd card or usb stick and it takes care of that problem pretty quickly. These things are a very low price now.
Well you can't store Wii U games on an SD card since it's only for Wii mode and Smash screenshots for whatever reason. And Nintendo strongly recommends against using USB sticks as storage since there are issues with how many times you can rewrite them.
Last year I managed to get a 500gb harddrive with a y power cable and a white Wii U with 4 games for just under the price of a black premium bundle. I see no noticeable difference between games on the HDD or ones on the flash memory in terms of loading, so yeah I think flash memory was a very silly idea on their part.

1218
Hmm, the Wii U basic was practically a disc only system without a hard drive, and then the premium was geared towards digital with it's extra storage but Nintendo being Nintendo messed it up with only 32 gigs, although the intent was there. Not really anything to do with the patent but a possibility for NX is a similar launch with one with a disc drive and then one without. They could even sell the discless system at a massive loss since all software purchases would be at full price through Nintendo rather than some middle man, and also it would cut down on preowned games sales since a lot of the user base is now exclusively digital.
How did retailers react to the PSP Go?

There is an extensive Nintendo Splatoon Tumblr http://splatoonus.tumblr.com/
Probably the best thing Nintendo Of America does social media wise.

1220
Hmm, English text but Japanese voice overs (unless my ears misheard over the convention noise). I wonder if 8-4 Play is helping out with the localization, specifically the English voice overs. They mentioned a big project in their last podcast, and I'm having a hard time thinking of what else it could be.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_uKWu6_z7k
There's some direct audio here and the main character does in fact have voice acting if you listen closely to the battle scenes.

It'll be in good hands if 8-4 are working on it, I recall Mark said they are having to collaborate with the developers in Japan and another company in America, it would make sense if he was talking about Xenoblade since that company in America would be NOA's treehouse.

TalkBack / Re: Metroid Project Proposed For Wii U, 3DS By MercurySteam
« on: August 14, 2015, 01:52:52 PM »
If the game is still being made regardless nothing of value has been lost. The sci-fi elements of Metroid are generic as  heck, all you'd need to do to avoid copyright infringement is change the main character.

1222
Is this game really that good? I bought and LOVED Xenoblade (then bought it again on New 3DS), but Pandora's Tower didn't look or sound fun to me. Isn't it a rogue like?
The idea is that there are a number of towers that must be explored in order to gain beast flesh that you feed to your vegetarian girlfriend so that you can slow the curse. The curse works in real time so it's a bit like Majora's Mask where you need to manage your time. It's not a rougelike but more like a Zelda game with an actual story and RPG mechanics; you level up, you forge new weapons and collect materials to create potions and armour. Combat involves simple combos and correct timing to activate special attacks, there is also your chain which can be used in a variety of different ways. For example it can be used as a whip or projectile type weapon, you can chain two enemies together so that striking one will damage both at the same time, you can immobilize enemies with it, use it to open doors and swing across gaps. There is also a Resident Evil-ish inventory system where you have to manage equipment in slots for maximum efficiency.

It isn't as good as Xenoblade in my opinion but still a damn good game.

All of your tennis is belong to Mario.

1224
Good addition, though I'm going to wait for a potential sale someday. I already bought this game twice on the Wii (once imported & the 2nd time on the domestic release) & the game just doesn't control well without the Wiimote pointer so Gamepad controls are kind of a useless feature for me.

This is a good point - Xenoblade would be a much better candidate to have released on Wii U because it would actually take advantage of the Gamepad controls in an excellent way.  *sigh*

NoA is awesome though. I bow to their awesomeness and ask for more.
Xenoblade works better with a Wiimote + Nunchuck in my humble opinion since you can control movement on the battlefield and movement along the arts palette simultaneously. Although given the choice between better controls and off tv play I would still choose off tv play.

1225
BUY THIS GAME! It's awesome, played through it twice in a row with no regrets, probably my game of the year so far.
