Mario Bros. 3, Mario World Graphical Skins Coming to Mario Maker
« on: December 05, 2014, 01:28:00 PM »

2015 is the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. and Mario Maker will celebrate in style.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/39162/mario-bros-3-mario-world-graphical-skins-coming-to-mario-maker

Mario Maker will feature graphical skins based off of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World and Nintendo musical legend Koji Kondo will compose the music.

Due out for Wii U in 2015, Mario Maker was revealed at E3 2014, where it showed off New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. graphics. While the physics still seem to be based off of New Super Mario Bros., as shown at E3, the additions of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World add a whole slew of other options, including the Super Leaf power-up and Super Mario Bros. 3 theater-like level endings.

Check out our interview with Mario Maker Producer Takashi Tezuka from E3 2014 as well as our hands-on preview.

I'm actually kind of surprised, given that at E3 Nintendo seemed to be all "Oh, what? Oh, geez, um, yeah, I guess that's something that could be theoretically possible. Someone will look into it!"

This looks great, but for me it comes down to price point and how easy it is to share and find high quality levels. I already know I'm terrible at making levels. :)

In all seriousness though, I am FAR more excited for this because of some of the objects they seem to have added in the meantime. :3

Shame that there isn't a Super Mario Bros. 2 palette. Other than, looks great!

I wasn't too interested in this when they showed it at E3. Seeing the changes, especially SMB3 and SMW has me more interested now. I would also like SMB2 stuff but that isn't entirely feasible with this engine from the looks of it. Maybe they will do a Mario Maker 2 if this sells well?

It could still be revealed. That's why I'm not freaking out at the lack of a Super Mario Land palette yet.

This definitely makes this more interesting.  I was expecting that the game would include just SMB and NSMB styles and others would be released as DLC.

"Super Mario Bros." and "bullet hell" are not two things I would have ever thought would go together.

http://youtu.be/krXmsZP7-rA?t=4m26s This is a fan game where the head developer for a while was a huge fan of the Raiden games and thus put in bullet hell stuff. I wouldn't play Mushroom Kingdom Fusion though, as the game has a very, VERY serious issue with content overbloat and a very unfair difficulty curve.

You know what is really impressive, it appears when you choose some of the different skins, you play by that Mario game rules...and that makes it quite awesome.

I'm wondering if the skins are interchangeable on all levels. Say I d/l a friends SMW level, could I change it to SMB3 and play an equivalent level in my favorite game pallet?

It's a bit of a bummer that they still seem to use NSMB physics and control, but the elements look nice.

OH, I didn't notice the physics were the same. I had hoped it would mirror everything to create the same experience.

I am okay with that NSMB has the best physics of the bunch does it not? Okay the jumping can be annoying at times but its still worth it to breath new life into these old games. What am I saying I will just replay SMW for the ten thousandth time again anyways before this even comes out.

Mario Maker's value to me is entirely dependent on online stage-sharing though Nintendo hasn't been especially forthcoming with details. Takashi Tezuka stated at E3 that "Sharing with friends is really the whole point of making levels" so I expect it in the final game. I'm terrible at level creation. However, I'd buy the game just to play other people's creations.

Online sharing/downloading needs something along the lines of:

*Friends' recently uploaded levels
*Highest rated/most downloaded levels
*By difficulty (easy to intense)

I'm sure all levels will be editable  once downloaded

Agreed except on the last part. I'm sure people will be able to lock their content from further editing after it's been shared. I'm betting the online sharing function will be similar to Pushmo World.

This looks much more impressive with the SMB3 and SMW skins.  Nintendo seems to put a little too much emphasis on the original SMB.  It's the genre-defining title and all but it's so rough around the edges that it's no one's favourite Mario game.  Even as a kid during the NES days it was seen as an "old" title.  Once sequels and other games like Mega Man and Castlevania were out it wasn't a title that any kid was going to intentionally ask for if they didn't already get it with their NES.  The real nostalgia is with SMB3 and SMW and while it was not encouraging that Nintendo seemed caught off guard by people bringing that up at E3 at least they caught on.  This now does look like a true Mario Maker instead of the Super Mario Bros. Maker it looked like before.
