I heard there was a 3 hour trailer for everything too.
I think it says on the box, 'No Hispanics' " - Jeff Green of EA

I was under the impression Disney got the rights when it bought Fox, but I can’t find a definitive answer to it. Futurama is currently streaming on Hulu and Comedy Central. Maybe Disney has to wait for current deals to expire. Futurama was one of the main reasons I was excited to sign up for Disney+.

Hard to say. Viacom might own Futurama now. According to wikipedia it says 20th century owns it.

Also, if I recall Disney said there would be no R rated content on Disney+

But they never said TVMA content. :D

err maybe they confirmed the MA thing later on.

I thought Viacom had it, since last I watched it on TV, it was streaming on Comedy Central.  I guess it makes sense if Fox still owned the rights, since they made the show, and were just syndicating.  But I thought the ownership might've gotten mucky after Cartoon Network wouldn't pay for new episodes and it wasn't clear how much CC was paying for the movies.  But then again, this could all be my poor recollection of events.

Hocus Pocus is my favorite Halloween movie. I’ve wanted a sequel for like 25 years. I don’t want to get too excited. I’ll believe it when I see it.

I haven’t seen Hocus Pocus in a while. I don’t know if it holds up.

I forgot to mention they are hopeful on getting the original cast back for the sequel as well.

My daughter squeeled when I told her and wants to "go see it" the minute it comes out.
I didn't tell her it would be from home, because she doesn't really know what Disney+ is just yet.

what also makes this news kinda funny, is that we were costume shopping just yesterday, and there were Hocus Pocus branded costumes in the Spirit store, and my daughter had gotten all excited about it, and started talking about the movie. As soon as I got home, I saw the news about the sequel coming to D+.

While I'm confident in D+ making money, $25M per episode seems like overkill.  They're certainly priced right for the content they're offering, and the content itself has mass appeal (everyone loves the old Disney animated features and the Marvel movies).  But doing the math, there's like 8 Marvel shows coming, with maybe 10 episodes/season at $25M per episode.  That's $2 billion for content creation.  The article only references 3 shows (I assume the others haven't started), and I'm sure that's the max with The Mandalorian "only" costing $15M/ep, but that's still a big bet.

I guess it's in line with their low estimate of 60 million subscribers in 5 years, which would be like $5B in revenue.  But who knows what their content creation would look like then, plus all the costs they'll be looking to recover from the initial investments.

But since they will outright own all of this new content, they won't have to worry about "renewing" shows like Netflix and others do. It is always their content without residual maintenance costs to keep them up.

Disney is taking a big bet the first 2 years or so, because they need to.  They need to get that BIG viewer base year one, around the world.  Disney probably also knows that movie theaters will eventually die, and the cable business model is fluctuating, and the home media sales are not what they used to be.  You better have an answer for the future or you will die in the past.

With this big push Disney can't be ignored and the value that Disney is pushing with content alone is second to none.  Seriously, Disney could have charged double what they are charging and still be a bargain.  But that is also the point.  They need to be the streaming service people choose over all the new ones coming out.

Right now, the Warner Bros streaming services are split to 2 services HBO max, and their DC stuff, and I think one more.  If Warner Bros got smart and combined them into super value app then they would be pretty darn compelling.  As for the Peacock, who knows what that will eventually have for value, and the streaming service with Star Trek has the Trek fans, but that is all.  Disney, needs to make sure they are one of the 2 streaming services EVERYONE worldwide decides to buy.

You might be thinking of HBO Now, which is the standalone HBO streaming app. HBO Max is set to launch next year and include DC contentment. But they have the benefit of being an assumed premium. Still, even $15 for HBO is a lot. And any more, even with what they're adding is…meh.

HBO has always depended on having one or two tentpole shows that keep people subscribed, and I'm not sure they have any right now since Game of Thrones ended. Westworld, I guess, though that's a far cry from some of the giants they've had over the years.

Yes, you are right.  HBO Now, Sorry.  But the point still is that Warner Bros needs to consolidate.  If each company only has one streaming service fairly priced then they could basically make slightly more money than with the regular cable contracts, but also be fairly priced for consumers to have most of what they want.  Honestly, I would rather pay for 2 or 3 monthly services than go to the movies these days.  Yeah, movie theaters are nice and the screen and sound are great, but most things it is not worth the price and it is very easy to have a bad experience.  I only do tentpole big budget movies now, because I would rather watch a drama in the intimacy of my home.

I watched it with our kids last week.  It's still a very cute movie.  Not remarkably great, but since there aren't a lot of great Halloween movies that aren't horror movies, I think it's up there as one of the better ones.

They're still churning out new stuff.  Watchmen just started, and there's a comedy or two on there that people seem to like.  Nothing GoT level, at least not yet, but still good ****.  A lot of Netflix originals have been noteworthy, but not good.  Ironically, they do better for standup than HBO, but that's about it.

I think HBO Max will be WB consolidating, but they'll be consolidating things that should come at a discount, in the D+ to Netflix range, with something that itself is already going for $15.  I have limited hope it'll be a real competitor in the stream wars for people who don't already have HBO.

While I'm confident in D+ making money, $25M per episode seems like overkill.

Worth noting that likely uses fuzzy Hollywood math.  I'm sure some of that cost will be shouldered on product placement advertising, taxpayer-funded discounts for filming in certian states/countries, and licensing agreements.
