Nintendo Gaming / RE:more rumors of Nintendo launching in 2004
« on: November 29, 2003, 07:26:00 PM »
I know what you mean, Rich.  At launch, I felt the Dreamcast had many great games to select from.  Call me crazy, but I think it had some of the best selections of titles that I've seen a new console launch with.

Errr...back on topic.  Um yeah, no new console in 2004.  New handheld, maybe.   That's my unsupported prediction.

Rich, a lot of those people you knew are either blind or just plain stupid.  A Dreamcast's graphics surpassed the N64's graphics by leaps and bounds.  It almost reminds me of how people thought that Super Mario Sunshine looked the same Super Mario 64.

Those people probably just bought the Playstation 2 on brand name alone seeing as how the first generation of games looked the same or worse than Dreamcast games.  I'll give those people a little bit of credit with one thing.  Madden did look far better than the usual Dreamcast games; however, NFL2K looked pretty dang awesome at the time (and it still does, strangely enough).  I think I've been playing too much SNES....

Nintendo Gaming / GBA Videophone---Nintendo's Cool Idea
« on: September 14, 2003, 12:16:13 PM »
Article taken from CNN Technology:

nullNintendo handheld game works as videophone

Sunday, September 14, 2003 Posted: 8:01 AM EDT (1201 GMT)

TOKYO (AP) -- Nintendo Co.'s Game Boy Advance handheld machine now works as a videophone with an attachment that comes with a digital camera, earphone and microphone.

The 13,000 yen (US$110) Campho Advance from Kyoto-based Digital Act Co., which makes mobile and Internet equipment, slips into the top of the Game Boy Advance just like any video-game cassette.

When connected to an analog telephone outlet, the display shows live video of the person on the other end of the line, who must also own both the Game Boy Advance and the Campho Advance. Your own image will show up in the corner of the display.

Campho Advance, which goes on sale only in Japan in December, requires no Internet service provider. Developers are working on a broadband device but have no plans to sell the product overseas so far, company spokesman Kazuhisa Saito said Friday.

Nintendo has sold more than 10 million Game Boy Advance machines in Japan, and about 34 million worldwide.

Any comments???  Sounds like it could possibly have been Nintendo's upcoming innovative product we heard about a while ago.  Looks interesting.

Nintendo Gaming / Next Gen Nintendo Ideas. Must read!
« on: May 25, 2003, 07:25:14 AM »
Heretic---People would actually understand what you were talking about if you clearly separated the posts (or just not include the old one at all).  As it is, all of your ideas are jumbled together with a lot of exclamation points and contradictory statements.  Just separate the ideas CLEARLY, and all would be well.  The problem has nothing to do with our ability to read.  It has to do with your ability to express ideas clearly and logically.  Now anyway...

Nintendo I'm sure has a plan.  Is it an out-of-touch plan?  Hopefully not.

General Gaming / PlayStation Portable, a serious contender to GBA?
« on: May 14, 2003, 05:12:36 PM »
Is that a late 2004 North American release?  That seems more like a Japanese release date.

Asian people like gadgets and this will be another to add to the stack.  I can almost guarantee that the PSP will sell decently well over there.  Anyone remember the WonderSwan?  That did decently well over there...I guess "well" might be stretching it.  But obviously, if that undersupported machine can break into the market, I'm sure a Sony system with a lot of backing could do great.

Nintendo Gaming / games you don't play anymore.

Joshnickerson---Simple answer to that.   EA likes to make money.  Lots of people by the same game year after year.  Besides, I guess they never truly feel that Madden is the perfect football game.

Back on topic, I can't bear selling any of my games, no matter how bad they are.  Some of them are even quite embarrassing to own, but it's still nice to have them.  Like Chrono Trigger sucks, but I still keep it ( just kidding---it's my fav. RPG).

General Gaming / GameSpy Halo PC Impressions
« on: May 12, 2003, 04:52:27 PM »
I laughed heartily when I read this article.  The X-Box smash hit is arriving on the PC in better quality than the original.  I, honestly, was expecting it to be a watered down version of the original, but to see that it has been improved.  Good to see I didn't spend $$$ in the past to buy the X-Box only for Halo when I can get a better version now.  Oh well.  There is always Halo 2 for current X-Box owners.

Any opinions?

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo To Make Big Announcements?
« on: May 11, 2003, 04:43:54 PM »
This guy is talking like it's a new offer though.  Most of us probably know about Microsoft's offer almost 2 years ago.  "Thousands of billions of dollars."  Yeah, right.  I'm thinking he was being sarcastic.

Sorry, I have to do this:

Hey, guys!  I work for NoA, and I just heard some great news from the mail room.  Word is, Sony is secretly working with Nintendo on Playstation 3.  The new system will be called the Nintendo Playstation.   This is hush-hush info. and if the big wigs of the company find out, my job and my life is seriously jeopardized.  I'll keep you guys up to date on any new info.  SHHH...don't let anyone know it was me, SmellySocks, from Little Rock, Arkansas who let you know.

Cough...cough...cough.   Gurgle.    Super-secret info!!!  Moo.

Don't give the guy too much credit.  I could also get on here and say I work for Microsoft, but that would be a lie.  Has he ever posted here?  If not, I wouldn't believe much of what he says.  Take his comments with a grain of salt.

What's the name of this thread???  FMV/CGI vs. Real-Time???

Wait...it is "FF:CC needs more than one GBA?"  We all are way off-topic here.

Want to move that discussion to another topic?

About the customizable FMV...there is a possibility that you could do that without having to have multiple movies for it.  Does anyone remember the scenes in FF8 where you would have the FMV going in the background while you were able to move your character in the foreground.  I don't see why they couldn't mix in FMV cinimas with polygonal characters (in-game engine characters).  The FMV would just have placeholder spaces or something to put the character in.  I'm sure developers could come up with some weird way to make it not look like crap.  Just an idea.

I would prefer to have features that don't require an outside accessory (such as the GBA/GCN link which Nintendo seems to love lately), but, hey that's just me.

I wouldn't mind them taking the game in a slightly different direction by offering brand-new locales that would affect game conditions.  Imagine a town that is in the arctic or a town located outside of a jungle.  You could also have a suburb that's located outside of a city or even an Asian-themed town.  And an option to "move" to another town would be cool.  I figure that you guys get the point though.

It would help developers become even lazier when it comes to optimizing games....

ooohboy----The CELL processor has some excellent network capabilities.  If gaming companies are serious about putting their systems online, that is the perfect processor to do it with.  Imagine the ability to share your great connection and resources among multiple users to help stabilize (reduce lag) on the network.  If Sony uses a version of this, I will be greatly impressed.

18
They probably would have used a dumbed-down version anyway.  Anyone know how expensive the Cell would be?

Nintendo Gaming / Why gamecube 2???
« on: April 20, 2003, 05:42:46 PM »
Well, for the time being, it doesn't bother me too much.  Before GameCube came out, we referred to it as "Dolphin".  Since we have not been provided with even a codename for the next system, we might as well call it that.  Hey, we're lazy people...

Anyone else have a problem with system names such as Playstation 2 or X-Box 2.  It just seems boring and less revolutionary.

Grey Ninja---I completely sympathize with that.  Edward and Alex's chapters are the worst part of the game....and the LONGEST!

Who ever said that the Cell processor was what they were planning on using anyway?  I believe that that was only the press speaking for them.  I'm sure they have something nice planned for their next system.

Yep, I read that also.  Makes me wonder what in the world they'll be putting in the PS3.  For Sony's sake, I hope they put something that is easier to develop for (not any of that dual-processor stuff).  And let's hope Nintendo keeps the hardware nice and simple again.

Yeah, I also picked up the game a few weeks ago.   This game is great!  Definately one of my faves.  I should be able to beat it my 2nd time through tomorrow...I just feel a need to get the big ending!
