Nintendo Gaming / Eternal Darkness - $14.99
« on: June 14, 2003, 02:56:13 PM »
I'm one of those people that rented the game several times to beat it.  Yes!  I saved $40 in renting rather than buying it.  But now, I'm pondering getting it...

Zelda doesn't have a timer if I recount right.  It uses the GCN clock to record the time you ended your last play of the game.

Nintendo Gaming / Resident Evil 4...Going to the next level?

Those Crimson Zombies were the only things that scared me in Resident Evil.  They were truly disgusting zombies that can tear you apart within in a minute.

I hope they make a comeback too...but it looks like this wraith creature will take its stead, as it can hide in just about any corner.

A great interview, indeed.  And I'm not even a Star Wars fan.

The PSP might prove to be a contender.  After all, a dominant force in video gaming is behind it.  Nintendo needs to strengthen their GBA lineup and advertise the GBA SP WAY more.  After all, the PSP will probably appeal to the mature market, and Nintendo made the GBA SP mainly for that reason.  Also, it would help if they helped Square and other popular third-parties develop more games for the GBA, especially at the time when a real competitor finally challenges Nintendo to a market they literally own.  Lastly, they need to show off the GBA's library.  Around the time of the PSP launch, Nintendo needs to run ads and commercials that show off different games from the GBA library, like Golden Sun or Advance Wars.  Also, some more GBA packages would not be too bad.  Nintendo cannot give another market to Sony.

Nintendo Gaming / A really good read about Eternal Darkness.

NIce read.  ED's story gets props.  IMO, it should be way more appreciated than the half-assed love stories of Final Fantasy.

KiD, enjoy your PS2.

And don't end up like CubedCanuck, our resident Cube hater.

Nintendo Gaming / real time or turned base

Real-time.  I love Zelda.  Plus, turn-based gets repititive if not done right, which in almost all cases, is not IMO.

FF:CC has a chance, with the GBA being big in Japan and the title itself being part of probably the most popular series in Japan as of now.

Most FF characters are pretty much...hmm...let's see...something light...feminine.  Yeah, feminine.  Every one except Auron.  And Kain, (I think that's the name of the FFIV badass).

Perhaps Mario can pull one over the eyes of Sephiroth.

Mario and Cloud were at it close last year, and Mario won with the help of good old PGC.  Sephiroth is even more popular than Cloud, so we'll have to see how this one turns out.

I had Link vs. Sephiroth.  I see Mario falling victim to Seph's blade.

It's that time of the year again.

I'm betting most of you do not like it, but it's just so much fun.  You thought the console wars debates were rough when dealing with Sony and Microsoft fanboys?  This is even rougher.  Characters are insulted as well as the company they are tied to.  Not only that, with a prize reward of $300 on the line, you'll see "internet advertising" going around when July starts.  Also. Anyone here ever participated in an NCAA bracket?  You could fill out a similar bracket and whoever gets the most points when the battle is finished gets the prize of 300 online dollars.

What do I mean by "internet advertising" though?  Well, it is when people go around other sites advertising this contest and trying to force people to vote for a specific character.  Planet Gamecube was involved in it when Mario was losing against Cloud.  You might say this is what sucks about it, but that is what makes it great in a sense as well.  So many people get into it, especially when there is a reward involved, in this case, there is.

This year's looks to be more violent than last year's.  I heard accounts of forums and chatrooms being invaded already with people trying to advertise the characters they want to win.  It will be hell this summer when the contest launches off.

But in the end, it's all about how much fun it was to participate in a video-game contest of this magnitude.  As for me, it's a ton of fun, especially if I place in the top ten of the contest.

Also, fifteen Nintendo characters are involved this year.  Sweet.  Nintendo characters nearly make 25% of the characters in this year's battle.

Wario's doing good.  It's still up in the top ten.  Nicely done, Wario.  I wonder how many copies the GCN one will sell.

Nintendo Gaming / Game Cube will have online gaming in 2003-2004?
« on: June 08, 2003, 10:14:08 AM »
Incentives could be made if games like Mario Kart or Mario Party were online to launch the Gamecube online network.

Still, though, nice to see Nintendo making some movement for online gaming.

Nintendo Gaming / The makers of the Master Sword?
« on: June 07, 2003, 08:55:26 PM »
It was somewhat of a war.

The Kokiri were hiding safely in their homes, fearful of coming out due to monsters invading their once-peaceful forest.
The Gorons were dealing with Volvagia, the ancient dragon Ganondorf resurrected just to deal with the Gorons.
The Zora were frozen in their "watery prison."
The Hylians were mostly dead, it seems, except for those who ran off to Kakariko.  I am replaying OOT, and it seems Impa protected the Shiekah town from any invading monsters, until around the time Link woke up from his seven-year slumber.
As for the Gerudo...they were prospering under the "great" Ganondorf.

In this "war," casualities definitely came about.  While one can debate whether this was fought with thousands of soldiers, chances are that it is probably the Imprisoning War.

Of course, one can also argue the other way...

Never played Super Monkey Ball 2, but go ahead and buy it anyway over Mario Party 4.  Mario Party 4 already has enough sales.

Trade show and press conferences are different.  You cannot show multiple games at press conferences all at once nor decorate it in a fashion to build hype really.  Also, trade shows build hype much more quicker.  I noticed that about E3.
