    • My blog!

No comment on exactly what those "customizations" are.

Masahiro Sakurai revealed in a recent interview with Joystiq that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS would not feature cross-platform play, but certain character customizations will be able to be transferred between platforms.

While he didn't comment further on what kind of customizations, he did say that "they won't be costumes and they won't be something they players have to unlock through repetitive tasks."

I'm alright with no cross platform play, I am curious though as to what these customizations will be.

What? I thought these games were supposed to be able to link up? So now the 3ds version has already taken the back seat, because we can't play with our Wii U friends. Come on Nintendo.. This isn't connectivity.. This is separating..

This is like Pokemon Stadium and I am fine with that.

I was not looking forward to some strange online connections between the 2 with the 3DS version lagging out the U players.

But for the people who refuse to actually venture into the forums(wimps!) what ideas do you have about this so called customization.

It certainly won't be moves, it won't be costumes( at least like Tekken), and no way stat changes will be allowed. I've given ideas already but I'd like to read what others have to say.
Nintendo players and One Piece readers, just better people.

I'm not interested in customised anything so I hope they don't put too much effort into that.

Lame.

Was really hoping they were cross platform.  Not that I know anyone who owns a Wii U.  But it would be nice to know that feature was there if a situation ever came up.  I take my 3ds everywhere I travel.

Besides swapping Miis around, the only cross "customization" I can think of would be using the 3DS as a controller with it's custom controls already set.

i would like to be able to link the two versions if that makes sense.

i think they confirmed 3DS exclusive stages and i would love to be able to link the two games to unlock eachothers content

I'm seriously trying to imagine what you would want to transfer between games.  What would you customize between games?  I hope it's not something as shallow as the sticker system for subspace.  Honestly nobody cares about the single player mode, longterm, and creating a custom controller profile between games would take all of 10 seconds per copy.  I don't need to transfer that.

Maybe the online win/loss ratio?  If the online system is robust, and you gain awards/medals/hats for how long you play, then that might be worth transferring over, but unless it's related to multiplayer, I don't think anyone will care about transferring.  It'd be nice if the 3ds one came out first for summer 2014, and then you could transfer your online win/loss records to the wii U one when it comes out holiday 2014.

Anyone else have an idea what you could/would customize and transfer?

Ohh Gosh, I hope it's the moves. Not like ALL the moves for each character change. But like if you could set up a name, as you can in melee and brawl. Then go into the settings and choose from maybe 2 or 3 special attacks for each direction of the "B" button! I think that would be THE BEST!

If these games had cross-platform play wouldn't that mean that the Wii U version would have to be dumbed down to accomodate the 3DS's lesser hardware?  That right there is probably exactly why we're not getting it.

Only in terms of graphics. Super Smash Bros. isn't a complicated game in terms of hardware requirements. Unless Nintendo increases the number of simultaneous players, I think every subsequent sequel is essentially an extension of Melee and probably doable on GameCube level hardware. There's only so much you can do with the type of game it is. Sakurai doesn't just want to increase the number of characters and stages, but if you're a fan of the series, that's pretty much what you're looking for. So I don't think there's much dumbing down to be done.
