Movies & TV / Re: Rate the last TV show you've seen
« on: March 05, 2018, 07:57:22 PM »
I still enjoy watching AoS but I agree that this season has been weaker (still a fun show though) and it is clear the budget was slashed, I'm assuming that was why the first half was set indoors. Hopefully this second half will do a bit more (maybe they saved money from the first half and will have more to work with now?). It is sad though seeing a show like AoS suffer from budget cuts, especially after a stellar previous season.

I figured out Mulduga pretty easily since he reminded me of the Tremors films so I tried the strategy they did in those films (particularly the first one).

I think it is cool to have motion controls back in a FPS, if I didn't already own the game on PS4 I'd be tempted to try it out.

I'm thinking Metroid 4 and Pokemon are a given for the show. In addition to that I'd love to see another Animal Crossing.

TalkBack / Re: Switch Fastest Selling Game System Ever In United States
« on: January 08, 2018, 05:36:43 AM »
For myself I liked the Wii U's gamepad due to it being able to be used as a secondary screen which is a favorite feature of mine with the DS, in fact I still miss that feature since when used properly it provided a quick way to reference inventory and/or the map. Still at the end of the day the Switch is better put together and is deserving of the high sales.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Six months in, thoughts on Switch?
« on: November 16, 2017, 10:46:01 AM »
I've been having a problem with the Switch not charging the Joy-Cons until they get down to the red bar. Apparently they only like to charge when the system battery is also charging, but I don't take it out of the dock. They also don't charge past half way this way. This means that sometimes when I take them off, they happened to be just above red and quickly die.

So I guess I'm going to need the charging grip then? It now makes even less than zero sense that the Switch doesn't include the charge grip. I guess they really want to force people to use it as a handheld, hee hee.

Nintendo tends to be really good about returns so if you can't resolve it another way you may want to contact them.

Anway, in regards to what I think of the Switch, I think it has had one of the better first 6 months in the last several console launches. PS4/Xbox One/Wii U all had pretty average lineups within 6 months but Switch so far has several games I am really enjoys such as BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart Deluxe, along with games I want to play such as ARMS, Splatoon 2 and the upcoming Xenoblade next month.

I seldom play the system in handheld mode though since the need seldom arises but it is nice to have that feature. Still appreciate the suspend mode on Switch far more than any other console, it is nice to almost instantly get back into a game where you left off when the console is turned on, not to mention having a clean user interface (especially compared to Xbox One's which is so cluttered and chaotic to navigate).

Personally I still think BOTW is a superior game, but Odyssey is still fantastic, I think the lack of discussion, like stated before is that BOTW was more about discovery, everything someone found seemed like a big discovery that they wished to share with others. It was like being an explorer just waiting to share your newest discovery, and when you have a game as epic and as wide open with BOTW you are going to have a longer, more interesting discussion. Mario games, on the other hand seem less community oriented and more personal.

As someone that has played plenty of open world games I do feel BOTW is one of the best. I've played everything from the GTA series to the Elder Scroll Games to Witcher 3 and everything in between (though I still haven't tried out Zero Dawn, a game I have been meaning to pick up). So many of them fail to keep my interest past the main story arc, if that, yet with BOTW I easily put in 80 hrs and still wasn't tired of it. I think the lack of direction is what makes it great, and the fact you can manipulate the environment so much to not only battle enemies but solve puzzles. The fact that you can technically go right to the final boss as soon as you leave the plateau was a brave design choice as well.

Now is BOTW a perfect game? No it has its own share of issues (underwhelming boss designs, lack of dungeons, horse riding feels unnecessary and tedious) but it doesn't change the fact that it is likely my favorite out of the 3D Zelda's and would be well up there on my list of favorite games. I think another reason why I enjoy the game over so many other open world games is that it is simple in its mechanics but has depth in how you can interact with the world. With that said the game has a ton of potential to expand on the formula in future iterations. As it stands I got a similar feeling with BOTW as I got with the original LoZ, and IMO is the full realization of what they had in the original game. The sense of discovery was fantastic in BOTW, something I often do not get with similar games.

Finished the main story campaign, loved every minute of it. Fantastic end battle, and a really cool surprise at the end. Still feel like there is still a ton to see and do.

General Gaming / Re: What are you playing?

Been playing Cuphead for Xbox One. This game is the reason why I got an Xbox One a couple years ago, and I have to say it is well worth the wait. Not only is it beautifully animated with a creative visual style but it is extremely addicting. The game mostly centers around gigantic, multi form boss battles rather then traditional run n gun platforming levels but there are some of those as well sprinkled around the game world map, they are also optional too, though I highly recommend you play them, some of them are really fun (though, like the rest of the game, challenging with no checkpoints) and they have coins sprinkled throughout them that you can use to buy upgrades. Really though the star of the show (as it should be) are the boss battles which are varied and punishing. Though if you want to lower the difficulty you can, but even at that they still aren't easy, it just limits what they can do and the forms you have to battle through to defeat it. Be warned though, you cannot get to the final boss unless you beat the bosses on the standard difficulty.

If I were to compare the boss battles to another game it would probably be Treasure's old games, especially Gunstar Heroes. Also while they can be difficult it is the good kind of difficulty in that you feel motivated to go back and continue learning their patterns. They have no health meter, the only way you know how close you were to defeating it is if you die, it will then show a progress graph with a finish line which is a unique way to track how well you did along with how close you were to defeating the boss, not to mention it limits screen clutter which is a good thing considering what the bosses can throw at you.

Beyond gameplay though the visuals are beautifully animated, and the sound design is top notch as well to immerse you in the 30s animation style they are going for.

Anyway, I'm having a wonderful time, I wish it would come out on Switch and PS4, but it appears it is solidly a Xbox one/PC exclusive. Would be the perfect game though for Switch though.

So many Amiibos that I need, between these, Metroid amiibo and the Zelda ones.

I am glad to see Retro not working on the game, as others have said I want to see them do something different. It is odd though that it has been so long since we heard about a game from them though, it has been over 3 years since Tropical Freeze.

Recently decided that I'd explore the castle, having finally found an effective way to deal with guardians in my way.
Accidentally started the final battle with Ganon, despite only having restored one divine beast, but didn't finish the battle. Got to a part where I wasn't sure how to progress, and wasn't sure I wanted to finish the game anyway.

There is a lot more I want to do before seeing the end - I'm unsure what will happen and how much further I'll play the game after that battle.

Hyrule castle is one of my favorite places to explore in the game, it has so many neat things hidden throughout.

I've briefly plaid a mobile demo of the game, so that is the extent of my personal experience of the game (though I've heard plenty about it). May consider this one, the Nintendo exclusive bonuses look neat, and may sway may to this version over the PS4 version.

I do not want to go back to typical Zelda any time soon. Give me open ocean world with real massive islands this time, give me open sky world with sky islands every where or give me another big apple game like this again. Just let me start the game and go.

Now more typical dungeons, cool, bring em on. Especially if we get themed dungeons again. Otherwise the shrines and Divine Beasts satisfied that aspect for me pretty well.

With weapons I don't mind the durability system but I do want a few more permanent things beyond the runes. What those things are I'm not entirely sure, but I'm sure there is a solution out there.

I know what weapons I want I just don't know how feasible they are with current set up.

1-Hook Shot - Gliding doesn't instantly mean the hook or claw shot is obsolete. For one the hook shot can aim up to cross certain gaps and there are a million ways to make so that Link can't just climb to the desired area once he glides across. Using the hook shot like the bow and arrow during bullet time to grab things as you glide across them would be really fun and cool to me.

2-Magic Rods - I want them to be permanent! That Meteor Rod is so fun to use! Maybe one Rod and you find different somethings to change from ice, fire or electricity. Maybe give us a magic meter again to make sure we don't spam them indefinitely during a fight?

I don't know.

The pegasus boots could be really interesting in an open world game like this.

Then again I also didn't realize you could turn divine beast abilities on and off on the inventory screen either until later.

You can?!!!  I have to give that a go.  The one I got from Gorons gets used up every time I use my shield and I always thought it was annoying to waste it on routine baddies.

Lol, that is the reason why I found it so annoying as well until I learned you could turn them off. Kept on thinking how odd it was that you could waste abilities when it wasn't necessary.

18
Yeah I found out about the shrine/korok stats on the loading screen long after I completed the main story. Then again I also didn't realize you could turn divine beast abilities on and off on the inventory screen either until later (not as late as the korok/shrine stat thing though lol).

On another note we found out how cool it is to have the Switch be portable, while playing the game the power went out right in the middle of a shrine but that didn't stop the game from being played, just propped it up via the stand and continued on.

So yeah Nintendo's repair service is pretty amazing, as I stated previously I sent my left and right ones in with their provided UPS 2nd Day label, they got it Wednesday morning, that afternoon I got a notice that they shipped out the replacements via NEXT DAY, and well it has been sitting in our UPS Box since Thursday. That is impressive customer service and turn around time for a replacement/repair, so many other companies take weeks after receiving the product to get it back to you.

I think there is a limit of 100 stamps so I don't think everything can be stamped on the map.

Can you repeat the Tests of Strength? I would love to try my hand at a few of them again to see how I have progressed.
I believe those Guardians reappear after a blood moon.

People complain about weapons breaking and I was on the fence about it in the beginning of the game but now I'm kind of glad they do since there are so many great weapons I'm coming across from defeated enemies and treasure chests and I just wish I had room to carry them all instead of leaving them behind.
Yeah, I've almost always had a full stock of weapons on hand so I can't say I fully understand the complaints about weapon breakage. It makes me think those people must be playing the game in a completely different way than I am.

However, despite buying out all the stock of photos, it turns out there are still some photos missing. The lab assistant mentions being puzzled as to why some images can't be added or that it is incomplete. Perhaps I need to beat Ganon to unlock those final pictures or maybe there is someone else I still need to meet.
I think there are at least some photos that you can't buy until you've found that item or beast in the wild. I think the buy option is there if you forget to snap a photo, or can no longer find that item or beast. You don't like taking your own photos though? I'd have rather filled it out myself, but unfortunately there were some middle-tier stuff I missed taking a photo and I can't seem to find them in the world anymore.

One thing I think Xenoblade Chronicles X still does better than BotW is the ability to just endlessly run and swim fast in that world. I do tire of the run then slow down for the meter to refill and repeat dynamic that BotW has in place.
I agree, Link has always felt slow in the 3D games but with the size of this world, his slow speed really becomes a problem with how long it can take to reach the next point of interest. Horses are an option for some areas but they're pretty limited and clunky to be of much use. I'm not sure how to balance faster movement for Link, but it's certainly something I'd like to see. To be fair though, slow character movement is a complaint I have about a lot of games.

I think with movement speed they really need to allow you to summon your horse from any area that is open enough instead of needing to be in the vicinity, it isn't a perfect solution but it would help. WIth that said though the fast travel system is generous enough that once I adventured to a shrine or tower it really helped traversing it since you can easily go to various points, and with the towers you can actually glide off allowing you to survey things from the sky.

Weapons breaking, yeah I am in the camp that I have little issue with them, as I've said before it helps to partially solve an issue with more open ended games, which is making each weapon feel useful instead of just junk to sell or something. In BOTW, at least for me, I still looked forward to finding weapons even later in the game so I could replace another one I had or further balance out my collection, it also motivated me to find the korok seeds which in itself helps drive exploration. If I were to make any change it may be including legendary weapons that can at least be repaired, or just go away temporarily. Beyond that though I've grown to like the weapon durability system in the game, it is something different and I feel in the end it motivates exploration which is a good thing IMO.

I didn't mind the rain as much as some, especially after getting the full climbing gear. I do agree it rains a bit too often for what it does, though. Unless I'm missing something, I also think there should be some item or equipment that lessens or negates the effect of rain. They put in one for lightning strikes, so I don't see why not.

I've been saying Gerudo with a soft g, and finding out it's a hard g was pretty jarring.
I think it was Khushrenada who mentioned a while back that the nice thing about the voice acting is that it confirms how to pronounce some of the names. I've been getting most of them correct, but not Lanayru. And oddly enough, I've been saying "Zelda" wrong this whole time.

Yeah that is my main issue with the rain, there should be some item or gear that mitigates it like the lightning it would provide a nice sense of progress as well.

22
Where is that Rito guy? I was told he was training at the Flight Path but there is no one there at all. Is he like up on a cliff or something? I'm ready for my 3rd Divine Beast!

If I recall he is in a tree house around the Flight Path area. Been awhile though.

OH SNAP! Takashi Tokita straight up teasing on Twitter now. He had a prominent role in the development of Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger, and has handled a lot of Final Fantasy remakes and ports since then. I would be ecstatic to see something like a Final Fantasy Collection with Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI come out on Switch. It is the 30th anniversary of the series this year, so a release like that would make a lot of sense.

Would be nice if they had both the original SNES version of FFIV along with the remake for DS.

Managed to max out the armor I needed giant cores for. It is kind of funny I spent a couple of hours going to shrines with giant cores in order to get enough and after upgrading the armor fully a guardian randomly drops one. I guess my next goal is to get the rest of the armor sets.

Also I did have one Moblin throw a bokoblin, the small details like that are what makes this such a good game, there always seems to be something new to see! Oh yeah I also found out you can convert chuchu jelly into different forms by using elemental weapons though you want to make sure you aren't too close to them or you could destroy them.

25
MOMENTOUS OCCASION: I cleared all 120 shrines last night!

I kind of consider that to be the true end of the game for me but....yeah nah I'm gonna go back and try to clear all the sidequests and upgrade all the armor :)

I've played this game for "over 110 hours" and there are no signs of stopping!

What about all the koroks? Have to say anyone that tries to get all 900 or however many of those has more patience then I'll ever have.
