This game went the way of Porkins.

A Star Wars Rogue Squadron Collection was almost completed when it was canceled for the Wii.

Originally being developed as a trilogy collection for the original Xbox, multiple canceled projects revived the then 50% completed title for the Wii. Factor 5, the now dead developer of the game, implemented many control methods, including GameCube controllers, Wii Motion Plus, Wii Balance Board, and Wii Wheel support. There were even new lightsaber battles using 1:1 motion controls with the then new Motion Plus. In the end the game was never released, mainly due to financial struggles with Lucasarts and other companies involved. The former president of Factor 5 Julian Eggebrecht says of the game "Believe me, if you ever saw it running on the Wii at 60 [fps], it is by far - and I think I'm not overstating that - the technically most impressive thing you would ever see on [Wii]."

At this moment in time no Star Wars games are currently being worked on, at least publicly for Nintendo platforms. A new Battlefront game is coming from Dice, the developer behind the Battlefield series, however it is not for the Wii U.

I'm a staff writer here at good ol' Nintendo World Report, but I also have a Nintendo website at www.nintendogamerthoughts.com

When you say it surfaced online - you just mean those couple videos, right?  Right?

I heard about this last week on IGN's NVC podcast. Makes me wonder how much money an investor would have to front to get this completed game out to market either on Wii (cheaper option) or Wii U (cooler option)

Disney seems to be in a licensing mood these days on everything Star Wars, so I wonder how easily they would sign a deal if Nintendo would get them on the phone and make a serious push to finish/publish this game as a Wii U eShop game, or at the very least get the rights to re-release the 2 Rogue Squadron games (+Battle for Naboo) as Virtual Console titles? The time to make such a deal would be now, before Disney's both simultaneously drummed up the value of the brand with the new movies and before they've killed off the brand through their typical over-exposure.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

If there was a kickstarter to help this see the light of day on the Wii U... I would be there in a snap, and I have never done a kickstarter before.

Same here. I've never done a Kickstarter, but I would donate sure for this!

Do it someone!

I'm still as saddened today about this as I was back when IGN first mentioned it years ago.  Not as much as the lost Pilotwings Wii, but still a great deal.

I'd absolutely love that, but I wonder if Lucas' "anything not in the movies or the clone wars is no longer canon" fatwa rules out rereleases of the Rogue Squadron/Naboo games.  Even then they'd be profitable I'm sure but a mere drop in the bucket compared to the various revenue sources Disney is surely seeing in the new movies.

Its a pipe dream but i still say Nintendo should have hired the people from factor 5 when it went out of business and made a first party studio to do what they do best.
Now with the WiiU problems they could turn out awesome games Nintendo needs.
HEY NINTENDO! get on the phone call them up and say, "hey wanna come work for nintendo in a new studio doing what you do best? " Done,
