TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Direct: Planting the Seeds of Concern
« on: December 19, 2013, 02:45:14 PM »
This Nintendo Direct is at least causing some discussion to pop up over the internet, Props to Nintendo for being able to drop media bombs...pretty much any time they want.

I didn't think the Direct was that bad. True I wanted to hear things about X and perhaps something unannounced, but I can't really blame them for waiting till the time is right.  The main thing I got from this Direct is how much Nintendo is embracing their own online platform.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Chibi-Robo might be the first, original, exlusive, eshop only release on the Wii U. That in itself is good news.

I agree and disagree.

Nintendo seems to have the wrong idea about 3D World, this game doesn't need a hype boost, it's already on numerous 'highly anticipated' lists and my personal 'must have' list.  Why they thought they needed to do this is beyond me. The 10 things we learned about Mario could have easily been the 10 things we discovered about Mario, and the world would be a better place.

But I have to hold myself back.  I must admit to myself, that actually playing the game is the best part.  Did I need to know this stuff, no. But is it going to change my experience with the game? the easy answer is no, it's not.  Playing Mario will still be top notch, and I have no doubt I will love it.

On a second thought, Nintendo's secret unlocks could be the tip of a very large Iceberg.  Five characters seems a bit of an odd number, who's to tell if there's not another? or a 7th? Perhaps different modes means DLC in the future, like they are currently doing for Pikmin 3, and have done of New Mario Bros 2 in the past.

Overall, a thought invoking article...but I have to agree with those posted above, a canceled pre-order may be a bit excessive.

The Conduit is definitely something I can see happening on the Wii U. High Voltage Software has made some great strides with the IP and to see where they take it is something to watch out for.

For the sake of full disclosure, I haven't played either of these games...but I was listening to a podcast lately, and someone..somewhere mentioned the Conduit series.  This peaked my interest enough that I stated to seek out was this series was all about.  What I found was a competent FPS that was exclusive to the Wii console. That alone was enough to wet my appetite, enough so that I'll probably end up pick up one of these titles, or maybe even both.

What I think is exciting is the prospect of where the series could go on the Wii U.  With a more powerful system, a plethora of control options, and HD graphics, Conduit could look better than ever.

Plus take into account that HVS helped with development of Saints Row 4 (which is about to release BTW).  A franchise that has really come into it's own as a hilarious and over the top, open world game.  If they can take even a slice of that tongue-in-cheek humor and make a cohesive narrative, I think they might have a great game on their hands.

All the above are my opinions. Nothing more than my own thoughts, impressions, and projections were used in the creation of this post.
