Well Clover disbanded, so it would be difficult for Ready at Dawn to add content to Okami.

I'm enjoying the game but it definitely doesn't feel as polished as it should be. For example sometimes I look at a team mate and press A to talk and... nothing. The frame rate issues (almost universal) and the game locking up occasionally (in the midst of massive firefights) are annoyances.

I also don't think the renegade v paragon idea is as fleshed out as it could be. Sure it's cool to hear random people talk about your character's personal history and some of the decisions that you have to make are pretty significant but you don't gain any powers intrinsic to one side or the other which limits its applicability I think. Also some missions don't seem to have a Dark side conclusion, you either do the mission and get paragon points or you reject the mission and miss the experience (or is it just that my intimidate stat is too low - which seems strange because I've done two planets and have 7 points in that stat). I kinda miss the force persuade type options from KotOR, where you could make people do some crazy stuff.

That being said the game continues to draw me back in, the story is very interesting so far and it's amazing just to talk to people and see where  conversations will go. The polish that is missing from the game engine oozes out in interactions and little details in the world, reminding me of a Retro game. The voice acting is brilliant and the codex also has extensive voicing which is quite amazing. The alien races are varied (although some are very similar to those from KotOR) which creates some reveals some interesting insights between party members.

The renegade v. paragon system is fleshed out. In Mass Effect you are a "good guy/girl" that is the way the story is written. The paragon/renegade system determines how you reach the conclusion. You can either be considerate and look for the least violent means possible or you can be an any means necessary sort of soldier. I was a paragon on my first play through and did everything possible to limit the collateral damage. My second play through I was a renegade and it was a total different game. Sure I ended up doing the same task most of the time, but he way I achieved it was total different. I can see myself finishing this game at least a half a dozen times if not more. If it weren't for the fact that I have Fire Emblem and SMG to finish I'd probably be on my 4 or 5 the play through instead of my third.

Okay, somebody please release a high quality arcade stick for Wii. I am going to need one ASAP. I can't wait to get my hands on all the SNK collections for Wii.

I agree with you on Def Jam Icon, but you are way off base on Fight Night Round 3. That game plays extraordinarily well. Fight Night is one of the few series by EA in which the game play is top notch.

Mashiro thanks for the tip on the Rabbidsformer video. I almost died laughing at that one.

Penny Arcade is almost never funny anymore. It's getting to the point where drying paint is more entertaining than their comics.

I just saw the live trailer it looks much better in motion. Its not on par with the CG they pawned off as in game in 2005 but its much closer to the CGI than Motostorm was. Gears of War still looks better. Killzone's textures aren't as high quality as Gears.

That won't help the substandard texture quality Mantidor.

Are you guys sure the difficulty is lower. The game seems to be the same difficulty to me. The only difference is I am able to aim more quickly and efficiently. I think the difficulty is the same, its just easier with the Wii control setup.

Microsoft flooded the market before Christmas so they could say they met their goal of 10 million shipped. That is why they also announced that they would only be shipping 500K Xbox 360's during the entire first six months of 2007.

The Wii has sold about 7.5 million copies already, and at this rate it will easily pass the Xbox 360 worldwide by the end of the year (maybe even by the end of the summer depending on how well it does in North America). It will take a little longer in North America (the only region where the 360 is still doing pretty well), but now it's just a matter of WHEN the Wii becomes #1 rather than IF.

Also, we do get monthly sales data from the NPD. So it's not just Japan that we get regular data from.

Oh, it's pretty interesting that the PS3 has been under 10K in Japan for the last couple of weeks. The PS2 has been out in Japan for over 7 years, and it has only sold less than 10K twice (both times were in November 2000 when the PS2 was suffering a wordwide shortage).

I can't speak to NexGenWars because my limited experience with them leads me to believe your accessment of them making up numbers is accurate. I do frequent the VGChartz forums and your claim of the site just making up numbers is gross inaccurate. VGChartz numbers are usually +/- 10% of the more trusted tracking firms numbers. I'd like you to explain how Ioi of VGChartz pulls weekly sales numbers for all three regions out of his ass and have them consistently mirror Media Crate and NPD numbers? I could see him getting lucky once, but several times? Extremely unlikely.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Left-handed people are left behind
« on: April 03, 2007, 04:59:02 PM »
Not this debate again. The funny thing is this. All of the right handed people are telling lefties, it doesn't matter. Its not 1:1, just switch hands. The switch has no bearing on the on screen action. I just wanted to let you all know, you have made an excellent argument for why the game shouldn't have been mirrored in the first place.

NWR Forums Discord / RE:Bethesda bringing Oblivion to Wii
« on: March 22, 2007, 01:22:04 AM »
I've said it before and I will say it again. If they wanted to bring Oblivion to Wii, the could used the Morrowind engine. Would it be a pretty as the PC/360 version? Nope, not close. Would it look better than the crap Ubisoft has been bring to Wii? Most definitely.

Ian, you do realize that EA has the exclusive NFL license right? I don't think they can release Tecmo Super Bowl, at least not without coming to some sort of arrangement with EA.

Maybe I should have said "were objectively good enough to get sequels?"

Hmmm....*backtracks*...maybe I should substantial sequels. The Zelda series built on itself with each game, as did the Mario series; Mega Man was basically the same game with different maps and powers. Resident Evil did have an ongoing story, but the gameplay itself remained pretty much the same until RE4, which is so far an anomaly. Same with the Street Fighter franchise; over 15 years and every pretty much every game they made for  the series was based on Street Fighter II or Street Fighter Alpha, with minor changes/additions. Most of the games listed didn't have enough to substance for Capcom to retool as sequels.

What I'm getting at is that Capcom may be prolific, but is what they're putting out going to be remembered in 10 years?

You mustn't have put any sort of time in the Street Fighter series. You could have. There is a divide amongst SF fans over the "minor" differences in the game play of the different series. I mean just taking the SFZ/SFA part of the series. The gameplay differences between SFA1, SFA2, and SFA3 make jumping in between those sequels with the same play style not possible. Especially which incorporated various SF isms with in its gameplay. Even so, those ism didnt play exactly like the games that inspired them. Then SF3, even with out the parry system plays nothing like the SFA series. It harkened back to the spirit of SF2, kind of like FFIX channeled the SNES FF games, but even then it doesn't play like SF2.

I'm not sure about the arcades in Japan, but VF has been on the decline ever since the release of VF3. Nobody really expect VF5 to that blockbuster that is gonna make Japan forget about the $600 entrance fee to play a game that they've been playing for many many months at about a $1 per play.

Not true. VF4 outsold VF3 by 200,000 units. In fact VF4 outsold VF3 lifetimes sales in its first week of release. No one expected VF5 to sell millions in Japan but it should have hit 100,000 in its first week. I mean even VF1 managed to sell over 51,000 units in its first week and it was a launch title for the Saturn. VF3 was a launch title for the Dreamcast and it sold over 110,000 copies. VF5's poor sales is an indictment of the PS3's poor showing in Japan.

24
Well there is more bad news for Sony and Friends. VF5 sold a mere 32,000 copies on its first day of sale in Japan. Thats less than half of what Blue Dragon did on its first day of Sale for the 360 which had a third of the PS3's current userbase when Blue Dragon launched.
