I could see a bundle for $200 with a memory card, though it wouldn't be a big one. I suppose it might include a game, but I can't see it being a great one.

I considered myself to be pretty tuned in when it comes to gaming but being so ill informed about the Vita has me a little surprised. Is this a failure on Sony's ability to market the Vita or is it my own for not paying attention?

Fairly sure its Sony's.  I want a Wonderbook and I didn't know it was coming out next week and I'm on a podcast with some informed people.

Yeah, to be honest I'd forgotten that Wonderbook was coming out soon. And now that I've been reminded about it, I can't wait to forget about it again.  :P:

So word is that New Leaf sold nearly 600,000 copies at retail and another 200,000 were sold digitally.  Sounds like either the game was sold out and so people bought it the only way they could or this was the game that most gamers in Japan waited for to make their first digital purchase.

I've seen a few people outside of Japan say they usually want to buy games physically but that Animal Crossing is a special case and they want it digitally. It's a game designed to be played every day for 15-30 minutes, which makes it just about the perfect case for buying a game digitally.

Reports out of Japan are also pointing out that Nintendo's actually pushing download in the ads - showing how to connect to the eShop and such.

I've also heard a good chunk of the store sales were digital download cards where it had a code that you put into the eshop and get the game digitally but bought at the store.

I suspect the digital number is higher, since that's just the figure for the cards.

Of course, I don't think it's much higher...

3DS LL Lifetime: 1,018,636

Looks like it's passing it up next week.

Looks like 3DS will pass the PS3 for sure by the end of the year now.
Also, the 3DS YTD sales right now are tracking 1.4 million ahead of last year.  That's pretty amazing as well.  Momentum in Japan is definitely on the upswing.

Wow. The Japanese really love Halo... it cracked the top five! *looks at actual sales numbers for debut*

Oh wait, no they don't.

Hah. But seriously, I really want to play Halo 4. I've enjoyed the last several games a bit (especially local LAN multi with my friends), and knowing this game has several ex-Retro/Metroid Prime guys working on it, makes it all the more enticing for me.

Excellent numbers for AC, too. Hope it breaks a million in the next week or so through retail and digital.

This thread is at an enormous length with 332 pages so I was wondering how many people would like to see it grow even larger or see a new thread created.

We've talked about more than just Wii sales in this thread though, we've also talked about 3DS and Vita and such.

My vote is to just renamed this the Official Sales Thread and have it cover sales of any kind on any platform.

The "Official Sales Thread" is born! Lets keep the thread going.

http://www.xseedgames.com/news.php?id=171

XSEED Games Releases New Standalone Version of The Last Story to replace the sold-out Premium Launch Edition.
Highly Acclaimed Action RPG Title from Legendary Game Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi Most Successful Title in Publisher’s History.

“The Last Story has been an amazing title for XSEED Games and it has become our most successful title to date,” said Ken Berry, Executive Vice President at XSEED Games. “This is a must have title for RPG fans, and we’re looking forward to more players discovering the magic that lies in Lazulis Island.”

Looks like The Last Story sold quite well! That's good to hear.

If Last Story set the record at 50k (confirmed from NPD leaks on the NeoGAF), that says a lot about XSeed's localization choices.

It's just a shame that Retro Game Challenge or Legend of Heroes couldn't hit the 50k mark before, but whaddya do.

Second print run for The Last Story! That's great to hear!
Carmine Red, Associate Editor

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf stays at the top with 290k. Counting digital sales, that should put the game over a million copies sold. Assassin's Creed 3: Lady Liberty is at the 6th spot, but that doesn't help the Vita from being eclipsed by the 3DSXL in lifetime sales.

Yep, 3DS XL surpassed the Vita's lifetime sales as expected this week.  Poor Vita.  It really needs Sony to actually give it a little help.

3DS is probably going to outsell the PS3 in Japan by the new year.
