Japan, Gamcube / X-box
« on: February 24, 2003, 04:39:21 PM »
i was watching gaming news on G4tv tonight  on a show called pulse.
seems that they are reporting that  the X-box has  actually outsold the gamecube in japan not overall sales but for a  monthly  count. seems that DOA3 volleyball has  actually helped  sales outthere tremendously.

anyway here is the link
http://g4tv.com/html/showinfo.asp?episode_key=609

link to pulse

it does not tell the dates or amounts there but you can check to see if it's there or watch the rerun in a few hours tonight.

i am amazed at how much x-box has had to  sell to catch up so quickly to beat out the cube.
hard to believe, i knew it had pulled ahead in the states but  had no idea about japan. does anyone know the actual figures?

I think it was just a week and wasn't the first time. But they fizzled back down.

not according to dengeki, but its possible.

it seems as though doxvb sold better then  the best selling gamecube game last week, however it was still owned by ps2 and gameboy, and it is not true that xbox sold better then gamecueb in japan last week. This is according to both dengeki and another console report.

Last console chart shows GameCube outselling Xbox 2:1, and 5:1 for 2003.  That's Feb 3 - 9.

I never said last week. It was a monthly report they mentioned, I assume Jan. since Feb. is still going on.
Pretty big screw up for a network devoted to PC and console gaming to make don't ya think?
to make just one comment is one thing but to use it as a story as the x-box coming back in japan  surely  they must have checked some sources.

Xbox can't be coming back in Japan, as they were never popular in Japan.  And one week doesn't really mark a bigtime comeback.  Especially in the light of the fact that January/February are the slowest months of the year in terms of console sales.

Some sites reported it and I guess G4TV saw it.

Actually it isnt that surprising that G4 would report it like that. Afterall, remember that the channel features specials such as Splinter Cell and XBOX Live. Also, the channel's G4TV.com show's hosts often overhype Halo as the best game of all time.

The Gamecube seems to be getting more acclaim now, though. . . certain illusions (like "kiddie games" and not enough games) are being broken.  That's the way it seems, at least.
