I was thinking the same thing about the air support vs ground troops.

I'm thinking carpet bomb the **** out of the whole populated area of the planet, followed up by Gunship helicopters to finish off anything that is still moving then bring the ground troops in after that to check for caves and collect useful "artifacts" when the dust settles.

I also made the connection to Starcraft too (now I'm wishing I didn't get distracted and came back to post it sooner so I could beat you to the thought).

Also where are the robotic ground scouts armed with firepower. Some Johnny 5 lookin' bots equipped to the teeth with anti-tank & armor piercing bullets. At their level of technological advancement you would think robotics would be one of the major fields in the military. I mean they are doing robotic automated tissue regeneration and mechanical limb replacements. I really not sure why they would even bother to send an actual human to the planet surface when it can all be controlled from space or further away.

its kinda funny, that allthough the animation is dated, it seems to not have all the problems the movie had. This day and age the show would be awesome.

Ah, there are the Mutalisks.  Ok, that throws an air assault out the window, considering based on the tech we've seen so far this society probably doesn't have any decent fighter-type aerial combat craft to protect their bombers.  Still, they could nuke the planet from orbit.

And incidentally, just what is that spinning column behind the captain's chair on the bridge of that cruiser?  Their warp core?  Gravitational generator?  Turbolift?

those suit designs seem pretty generic, but man they are similar, if the Spartan helmet was transparent it would be the same thing. Although Tribes suits look similar too. Obvious predecessor to all of them

Yeah, umm...sorry to interupt your mighty Battle of Helm's Shanty Town re-enactment, recreated with the best that can be bought at your local Arts & Crafts store and Home Depot (seriously, those Gattling Canons look so fake it's painful), but considering the sheer number of bugs clumped together in one place maybe you guys might want to considering using...oh I don't know...EXPLOSIVE WEAPONS like RPGs and Nukes instead of your machine guns?  Sheesh, considering this is supposedly the best mobile infantry squad in the Federation, they're really pitifully armed.

That said, this actually is a pretty awesome battle, with some great interaction between Live Action actors and the CG Bugs.  I love how the Bugs are just using their dead as a Hill to get higher over the walls.

Well unfortunately the mobile infantry are all dumb according to their test scores, that goes up the chain of command. If your reconnaissance intelligence are all dumb than there is going to be problems during the war. Idiocracy in motion.

Gee, someone was a big fan of Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Kahn.  All that's missing is a set of bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace" and the Genesis Planet.  And at the rate we're losing main characters, we might need the latter considering this movie got several sequels.  Well, good riddance...I couldn't stand that character and their acting was pretty horrible, especially in their death scene.

Well that was an abrupt ending.  Overall, that was quite a fun movie, classic space opera in many ways. I wish the satirical side of the source material had been pushed a little more than it did in the second half of the movie (it just kind of vanishes until the ending once the War gets underway).  Great action, though, with really good staging (I'm kind of a sucker for well-choreographed artillery fire, and there's quite a lot of it in the latter part of the movie, even as just background scenery) and some decent, if hammy, acting.

From all readings apparently the actual Starship Troopers book is really boring, it just focuses on tactics and strategy, and characters are undeveloped and nothing more then speaking mouths for the writer. Apparently Paul Veerhoven quit reading the book halfway through, and just did his own thing. Plus I didn't find the artillary fire well coreagraphed at all, there are lot of scenes where the troops are just pointing their guns at empty space, very rarely are bugs and people even in the same shot, save for 3 shots in the "helms deep" scene (the shooting at flying bugs shot, the over the shoulder shot, and the bugs perspective shot). Most likely the gun fire was added in post.

I'm referring to the blue flame anti-air attacks that the larger Bugs do to attack the orbiting Earth fleet, not the machine gunfire.

Why do the Space fleets all sit in the same ''air" space when they know the bugs are gonna shoot up at them and likely hit a ship or two like last time, which will cause one ship to fall into orbit and likely into another ship. SHouldn't they spread out and maybe surround the area they are targetting?

also how to the shooting bugs realize there are ships in their planets orbit when they certainly can't see them? Those are some super bugs.

LAUNCH THE ESCAPE POD, worry about your helmet on the way out. dumbass.

Helmets not gonna do you much good if you got blown up in the ship cause you never launched your escape pod.

special effects heavy movies just have long ass credits. Iron Man 2 was such a pain to sit through waiting for the ending Snippet.
Even MacGruber had a long ass credit sequence, but we were rewarded for our wait.

On Netflix there is a 1 star movie called Raptor Island. I say we add that one and convince Halbred go all dino-nerd-rage-nitpicky on it. I'm thinking Angry Video Game Nerd or Nostalgia Critic except with a love for dinosaurs.

Dragon Wars.... I think I Netflixed that when it first came out. I never made it through and decided to return it for a movie I actually wanted to watch instead (gotta sacrifice movies to get my new releases sometimes). I'm sure that movie is bad enough to join, but do we we want to watch it?
